    First time finding your channel and really appreciate your honest review. Looks like I will not be buying the PD tripod unless they make a much better version 2, and reduce that price a bit. The inability to lock in the L bracket in portrait orientation is just nuts. I did notice someone else noted that you can turn the camera around so the notch is not aligned with the space though. Glad you pointed that out. The Ulanzi/Colman one is intriguing and I will follow up with it. One note about not being able to put the L bracket into the PD mount: all you need to do is remove those two screws and it will function the same as the Ulanzi/Colman one. Thanks Skyler!

    Hi Skylar, excellent review. I was considering this tripod and did some research and ended with a different set up. The main reason was that I already have a Acratech Ballhead and just needed the legs. I may still get this tripod to have a back up as it has some feature that would be very useful in the field. Have you tried to hang a camera bag or something heavy from the bottom hook to keep it steady for pano work? Thanks

    I don't understand with the L-Bracket in portrait mode, can't you just turn the camera around?? The other side of the plate doesn't have a cut-out in that same spot, right? And I find it way better to mount the heavier (lens) end of the camera on the release lever side so that unlatching doesn't result in the camera falling accidentally.

    I have the Ulanzi Zero Y, have to say that it's not at the same build quality as the PD one. However I bought it from their China store directly which costs about $160 and that makes it only a quarter of PD's price, so it's definitely a much a better choice. It is slightly lighter than PD, and the pano head with bubble leveler is for sure a plus. With a $379 price tag they obviously add a hefty margin to the US market.

  • @skylerewingphotography

  • @jimwang2632

    @jimwang2632

    Жыл бұрын

    @Skyler Ewing Photography My bubble leveler works OK, serves its purpose. As a matter of fact the bubble leveler is the area that I can easily see it's not top notch quality so I am not surprised it's broken on yours. Overall the tripod is good quality, but those small areas are where you can tell it's still away from the best quality. Of course with the price I got it for, these can all be ignored. :) I was about to pull the trigger at Ulanzi store for $299 before I went to check their China store front, found it to be only 1200 RMB there which is about 160 USD. I have friend who's just traveling to US to help bring it over, so my purchase experience is not really applicable to general US users. I am just surprised that they mark up the price for more than 100% in the US market for the same tripod, not a big fan of that.

    Short answer to the question: *No!* I think for the prize of the Peak Design and the Ulanzi & Coman Zero Y Carbon you could get a Gitzo Traveler Serie 2 (legs only) with Novoflex Classic Ball 2 (upside down) and Novoflex Q-Mount. This combo will hold cameras and lenses up to 5 kg. You really get what you pay for! 🤔 You'll pay more if you try to buy cheap or even jump up to every hype about Peak Design (I love their straps) or now the Ulanzi. 😇
