I Gotta tip!! Use circle hooks. They always catch the fish in the corner of the mouth. Strongest part of the mouth so you lose less fish. Easiest to get the hook out without damaging the fish for return to the sea & ALWAYS use a wet cloth when handling the fish!! Easier to grip & causes less damage again if returning it to the sea. Peace

Fantastic video!!! Really well done!!! Some additional tips might be effectively working structure: map topography (changing depth lines), piers, passes, jetties, cuts, weedlines, bridge pylons, points, rocky bottoms vs soft bottoms (mud, sand, etc.); also: using live bait vs. dead bait, best bait rigs, when to use octopus/circle hooks vs. std. "J" hooks, fishing egg floats and balloons floats. Keep up the great work!

things you missed:- (i) Elasticated bait cotton to secure baits to the hook. Using this allows any bait to be used even if its soft like shell fish and be able to cast it without it falling off. It also means you can start making bait cocktails where you can mix any selection of fish, squid, worm and shell fiah baits (ii) Instead of those tubes, you can use tripods or sand spikes. Sand spikes are like thoses tubes, but they have a pointed end so you can really get them into the ground easily (iii) Use rigs where the baited hook clips to the rig before the cast and releases when it hits the water. The most basic one is known as a pulley rig and plenty of videos about it. (iv) For beach fishing use a 12ft plus rod capable of casting upto 6oz. This means that if you need extra distance because that gulley is further out, its far easier to get distance on a longer more powerfull rod. But you must be able to bend the rod in the cast so find one that is powerfull, but still forgiving enough so it bends when your casting

Dude, Well done. Thanks for the great pointers. The rubber tubing advance was super! I also watched your video on the 12ft Ocean Master Surf Rod. I normally buy custom built rods because I thought that all of the off the shelf rods where a piece of junk. after your review I purchased the Ocean Master. Haven't used it yet but I will let you know after the Fall fishing season. I fish for Big Drum, Stripers, Big Blue Fish, and Cobia from the beach so the rod will be put through the paces.

Great video. I've fished the surf a lot. This is a personal opinion but you don't really need a super heavy rod to fish on the beach. I'm mean if you are shark fishing yeah you need a big heavy duty rod. But I've caught some big fish on a medium set up. I'm not saying that surf rods are bad but I feel like there is a stigma that you have to have one. When I go we carry 6 rods that range between medium and heavy. We do fine catching bigger fish.

Here's a good tip make sure that you and your friends have hands that are clean of perfume or deorderant anything that smells Ive had days spent catching nothing after eating chicken and not cleaning my hands also using a line that's light giving the fish a real chance Ive got this friend he uses 7 pound test he pulled in a four foot shark with it ,I have never seen anyone else try it . Me myself I have lost some big ones but have also pulled in some big ones with my 12 pound test I will not go down to 7 but im trying too.Oh by the way that four foot shark took over 30 minutes for its final pull in It was a epic fight .

I use aluminum pipe aluminum angle and make a small triangle up on the angle that resembles a small shovel for putting my feet on and pushing the spike in sand. I'm a welder and I've been making these rigs quite some time. I agree on the plastic PVC holders and the galvanized will do. This is just an alternative.

Dang man. I learned what I needed to know on your video. I am a NE Texas river fisherman. I am also a fishing guide on a few lakes here if my cousin can't make it. All I really need to know now is what type of line and what lb test. I go gar fishing I use a steel leader. Never caught a saltwater fish.

Your tips make a great deal of sense. Especially the steel rod holders. I have been fishing on the surf once a week, and I am on my 6th week. I use sand fleas, live and dead shrimp. fish bites and cut mullet. In 6 weeks I have not even caught so much as a whiting. I have been fishing for 60 years. WTF with surf fishing?

Just picked up a Longitude 10 footer and a Daiwa BG5000 spinning reel. Lost a big bull red last year to equipment breaking. Am I in good shape for bull reds, black drum and sharks????? I put 20 lb braid on the reel.
