Best tips for shooting video with the Fujifilm X100v (or any camera)
Ойын-сауық
in today's video I share with you my best tips for getting cinematic video with the Fujifilm X100v. There are a couple of things I touched on but didn't explain throughly -- if you want me to make a follow up video please leave a comment with your questions and I will consider adding it to another video in the future! as always thanks for watching, Love y'all!
The recipe I use:
Movie Mode: FHD 23.98P
Film Sim: Eterna
WB AUTO: R:6 B:-7 (adjust to eye)
Dynamic Range: 400
Tone Curve: H:-2 S:-2
Color: +4
Sharpness -2
Noise Reduction -4
Moment Cinebloom 10% filter
The 180-degree rule is a standard in the film industry, and it explains the relationship between shutter speed and frame rate when recording motion in video. To mimic motion the same way the human eye experiences it in real life, the 180-degree rule states that shutter speed should be set to double your frame rate.
I have my camera set to 1/48th of a second shutter all the time (because I only use 23.98fps)

Fantastic stuff. I always learn so much. Keep it coming our way, Chris!!
Finally someone who did this IVE BEEN WAITING FOR SOMEONE TO DO A VIDEO LIKE THIS!!!
I’m ngl bro, this video is fucking fire. Glad someone FINALLY did a Fujifilm recipe for VIDEO and literally showed enough clips that its worth it to not shoot log sometimes. Thank you my dude. Big thumbs up.

Hey thank you! Really appreciate it!
Thanks for bringing the great content back!
I can't wait for your insight on the later model.
Louis is too cute!! Great tips and great delivery, Chris! 👏
appreciate this video! will become a dad in August this year and I am finally starting to document the journey with my X100V, so I am looking forward to use your creative input! I got a Crane M2s gimbal on sale a few days ago and hope it will help a lot with stabilization of the shots especially for tour footage / on the move. Really enjoyed how you used that shakiness to make it all feel more intimate though!
Great stuff. I've only heard negatives about the X100V's video capabilities. I have one on the way and your video has inspired me to get the WCL. Thanks
love the wes anderson shot at 5:00
The most helpful video after I got my x100v
Wow… very good information, definitely following you 👍😜
Great video. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you share for knowledge.👍

Thanks Tony! glad you enjoyed it :)
amazing content !!
An absolute banger
Hey there thanks for the really cool and simple video looks awesome the footage definitely very much like film. It seems quite simple to record and set everything on the X100V to match the simulation and settings to my photo setting and use a gimbal with it, I bought the M2S crane will see if it’s nice. So when I set the colours are they locked or can you still get them to neutral and edit to match em to photos? I use lightroom for photos and always pick whatever simulation I like but go back to adobe neutral to see the change and decide. I kinda want to do the same either in adobe rush or davinci but maybe I have to just try it out? I shoot with models and it would be awkward to have colours locked or different to final photo edits. Thank you
Thank you for the great video! Considering the X100V for myself as well. Q: Can you use the digital teleconverter in video?
Wow. Taking me back to my time living in VAN, with that S2S Hwy footage. There's no drive like it.

It really never gets old. Love that drive -- especially on a motorbike
thanks so much!i love the look of the phots so yeah unlocking htat for video is awesome! (also that music track at the begining is amazing how can i fintd it or something like it?)
Such a great video! you are the proof of concept that videography with X100V is possible.there is only one thing which is noticeable which is lack of stabilization. you are using the shakiness as a tool here (that’s what i assume) to give a feeling of live/realness and it transfers emotions in the right way e.g when we see you driving the car but when you would go for other cinematic scenes and when you go for cinematic b-roll in slow motion, do you think you need a gimbal? i would love to buy a X100V instead of a much more expensive X100VI but this one has IBIS.
Love your work. What fonts did you use in this video? Greetings from Sweden
That 40th anniversary square!
Good stuff! I have a question though, I’m used to shooting with various primes for all my different shots. I just picked up an x100v and was really impressed with the tight shots you got. I’m assuming you just cropped in and reframed? I like how only having the one focal length changes the way to shoot. I’ve so far not found it so versatile for the tight shots.. and I’m a sucker for 50mm 1.2/1.4..
Fellow x100v shooter ! I also life in SD !

exactly the kind of video i was looking for for my x100v :D also, what's the song that you used at 3:00? thanks!!
Great video. Can I use custom recipes in video mode?

Good question👍
Hi, thanks for you video. I'm a beginner. When I film with my x100v I think the sound the camera makes when it focuses is quit disturbing. Can't hear it in your video. Do you have any tips on that?
Hi Chris, thanks for this informative video! How important is IBIS when using a gimbal with x100v?
@chrismeetschris
8 ай бұрын
Hi there! Not sure what you mean, there is no ibis on the x100v :) but it should perform great on a gimbal regardless!
@USMLEExploration

Right; lack of IBIS doesn’t matter when using with gimbal I guess
How do you find the right exposure on the X100V? I don't want to blow out my highlights or the opposite!
Louis is so sweet his skin is so soft is this a new mic? Are you doing color commentary on football too?

Does this count as a CTT? 🥲 Fuji better be coming out with that next version soon so I can grab one😂 Thanks for the tips senpai 🙏🏻

Sure why not: CTT X100v edition. As for the next Gen, the wait will be incredible. 😂
I’ve tried these settings and WB doesn’t seem quite right. I know a lot of it is lighting, but auto isn’t giving that warmer/yellowy look that you have. Would you recommend anything different like “daylight” wb or something custom?
I'm thinking of using a Fuji X100IV as a second camera when shooting wedding videos to capture some candid moments. what do you think about that idea?
Can you tell me the simulation name again please? I don't get It! It Will work on the XS-10?
How long do you cook the camera for?

lol
How do you think the X100VI will fare for video? Will it's increased specs and IBIS make it a more viable option?
@chrismeetschris
4 ай бұрын
Yeah, I think it will be the perfect form for this camera. The lack of ibis wasn’t too big of an issue for me, but the inclusion of it makes it ALOT easier to work with - especially the 10bit internal recording, way better latitude for post processing etc. definitely recommend it over the x100v if you can get one!
You can use the ND with video? My X100V arrives tomorrow, so I can't check. I just saw somewhere it only works with stills.

Works with video. You just can’t turn it on/off DURING recording :)

@@chrismeetschris That's great. It was one thing I found out after ordering the camera in panic. They all sold within a day from every store, at retail price.
Hello i've this camera and i need to understand how to stabilise the autofocus with the video mode. When i watch your video its not moving back and forth until stabilising on the subject. How do you do ? When i do it, it's searching any time the subject change is distance with the lense...Sorry for my english, i'm french and not using it so much...Looking forward for your answer.

Hi! There’s a little switch on the side - I shoot with “M” Manual mode and adjust focus using the ring on the front of the lens. I prefer this for the x100V (VI) as its continuous focus is noisy and clunky haha. So set your focus before you start recording using the back button focus, then adjust if you need to using the ring manually! Hope this helps
Do you use an external audio recorder? Or just x100v itself
@chrismeetschris
8 ай бұрын
Most of the time no. If I really need to get the audio then yes. Because the mic jack is on the handling side of the x100v I find it to be kind of useless unless on tripod.
Are you zooming footage in post?
