    I have all three Ricos and I think they are superb for the money. They also respond well to changing embouchure or reed. It also easy to control the brightness by rolling more lower lip over your teeth.

    The Rico has the largest tip opening and the 7M means Metal-lite which has a slight wedge high baffle. A link 7 is .100" tip, with a 7* measuring .105". I play a hard rubber Otto Link Slant signature 8, Tone Edge Which is .110" tip opening.

    @@Sirvalorsax, so far, I love it. It says it came with Mark VI key-work. There's no fight in it against me. Everything seals nicely and is easily accessible. The thumb hook, which does change angles, seems like it's going to take some getting used to. Otherwise, my issue is dialing in my embouchure. The saxophone sounds so smooth!

    Thanks! That's just the review I was hoping for. I think that the G mpc is (looks) VERY similar to the Bari Esprit, not sure, but looks the same inside and out. I have the Bari, and it was my first and only tenor mpc. During lockdown I've made a previously unplayable, junk mpc came with the cheap sax I've got playable, and now it's super easy to play and has an interesting sound. I'd love to get my hands on that G mpc. Any chance you could send one here to Spain? Haven't seen anywhere willing to do so or in stock. Does it really cost 20$ to send a mpc to Europe? Btw the Bari Esprit is btwn 18-30€ with a sweeeeet cap and nickel lig. Plays really nicely, but only in one size and some notes sound stuffy (low and middle D-Bb with T) on my cheap horn.

    The only one I have personal experience with it the Yamaha 5C. It was probably the worst mouthpiece I ever played. The sound was so stuffy that I thought something was wrong with the sax. I had a local pro / repair tech play my sax with his setup and it sounded really nice. When he tried the 5C he sounded stuffy as well. After hearing so many positive statements about the 5C I was very disappointed. In your review I preferred the Rico and the Giardinelli.

    Dear Sirvalorsax, Greetings to you. I bought a used tenor saxophone, and it came with a black plastic mouthpiece and a ligature with one of those awesome big metal screws that tightens and loosens a small metal plate to hold down the reed. Unfortunately, the screw (and area within its chamber) had so much sludge it was frozen, and a previous owner simply jammed the ligature on and off the mouthpiece which was apparent due to the condition of the mouthpiece. I got the ligature working again, and the mouthpiece cleaned up...but the most curious thing. The ligature abuse created a slight burr edge to the left and the right of the table on the mouthpiece. It would be like placing a narrow strip of tape to the left and right of the table, so to speak, and give it a raised reed surface, if ever so slight. I'm very new to the tenor, so I'm getting squeaks due to my adjustment in learning this instrument (and I might have some pad leaks), but is this ever slight gap between the reed and table a good thing or bad? I'm not sure if anything is greatly apparent due to the ligature which presses down the reed, of course. How would I know if this is good or bad, as it seems the entire purpose is to make the reed vibrate. I'm not sure if this is bad? Or is it? Should I take those two edges off carefully with a tiny file? The table is in great shape. It is very odd to have this situation, I believe. Also, I am so glad to see this video. I too love the sound of your Giardinelli. That was very beautiful hearing you play that and the others. Thank you for your time. God bless you in Jesus' Name.

    When we measure mouthpieces we are dealing with an accuracy of thousandths of an inch or hundredths of a millimeter so YEH, It can have a huge effect on the response of the sax. There are some really good inexpensive mouthpieces out there especially from Rico. The Giardinelli is one of my favorites. These mouthpieces are super cheap and VERY good for the price. Almost none of them come with a ligature but the Giardinelli can be bought with one for a little bit more money. Here are some of the reviews I've done. @@Sirvalorsax THANK YOU SO VERY, VERY, Much for your reply, help, information, and everything! Upon reading your message, I ordered the Giardinelli. Your other video links above are very awesome, but I want to start with that one first. I have been watching a lot of videos on repair, replacing pads, etc., and I was curious as to what my mouthpiece was playing (the one abused by ligature) as it went all the way to the end of the very used cork that was also wrapped with some kind of white tape? of some kind. On my tuner it said a very sharp B but it did not register as a plain "C". I wanted to get the mouthpiece soon then--as I will be replacing the cork and will want that to sit properly in tune for the Bb instrument, and you had mentioned that it might be larger (as to where it sits on the cork). I want to make the cork the right thickness if I can. I have replaced a cork on a clarinet, so I know and have great instructions for doing this as well. I was told this instrument was checked and played well. But wait...I had discovered a metal mouthpiece cap, with a hole on the top dome part, stuck inside the body inches below the top. Grin. I admit seeing this with a flashlight from the top of the saxophone body, I really did not know what that was. I had to ask if this was something unique to a tenor saxophone when I first saw it...is that not hilarious? There was also another issue, which was probably the worst, requiring soldering. Considering the situation, I am still happy with this instrument and very grateful for it. Thanks again--so much for everything. I cannot wait to get this mouthpiece. P.S. One of my dreams is to develop good lung power/endurance to play a type of music I dream of doing on this instrument. Too embarrassed to say publicly what it is, but I'll let you know later if I have any success in achieving that sound. God bless you in Jesus' Name.

    Greetings to you...Just a followup....I discovered one reason why ordering saxophone pads (sets) online and replacing old ones can be so difficult...it is because a set purchased might not at all fit what the owner's instrument requires. We decided to proceed carefully and chose to replace three top pads, that is the three top left hand palm key pads, as one was torn, likely due to some acid flux leak over time at the tone hole soldered area. One of these three key pads was slightly larger, and I had to take a size larger than that to then open up that new leather pad, draw a cutting line on the inner rim of back card-paper on top of foam, cut away the inner core slightly--that is, the outer rim of the inner foam circle as well as the card-paper attached to it, scrape away some of the leather thickness (the rough side of the leather) which folds over on the backside (or it will be too thick), re-glue it, and it did work...but I never did anything like that before so I was glad it worked fine. I think the other pads on this saxophone can wait...grin. And as a matter of fact, I think they can. Since I can see the pad sizes vary, the "replace a saxophone pad when necessary" is the way to go for me. I think I discovered, possibly, the number one reason why it is hard to do this for someone who does not repair saxophones regularly...it is having the right pad sizes. By the way, the Giardinelli mouthpiece is on the way, and I believe it will be here any day now. I greatly look forward toward it. Thanks again for demonstrating it. I hope you have a great evening. Thanks for everything.

  • @Sirvalorsax

    @Sirvalorsax

    4 жыл бұрын

    Good point. I believe they are safe because it's really easy to research plastic and how it's used. I do wish that all plastic sax mouthpieces had the same toxicity code that you find on food bottles, cups, containers ect... Check your ketchup bottle or a fast food drink cup and you'll see a triangle code on the lid or on the bottom. These are easily researchable features that I hope will carry over to our field.
