    On the RX, please check the oil cooler and vvti lines to make sure the previous owner changed them from the factory rubber/combo lines to the OEM all metals ones. The rubber wears out (dumping your oil onto the road) and it's a well-known issue.

    Yes. This happened to my toyota sienna. It blew got off the highway and realized the the burning smoke of the oil on the exhaust. It dumped all its oil. If I have not got off that exit that motor would have been toast by the time I realized. Replaced with the metal line 45k miles later and now still going strong at 230k miles.

    Since you ask, I get between 25 and 32 mpg, (UK gallons) from my RX450H, in spite of living in a very hilly city. Winter is more expensive because the engine has to run and be warm to keep everyone's legs warm. I recommend avoiding air suspension, it's not very soft and enormously expensive to fix at around 10 years old. My car is now 11 years old, so I'm dipping into my savings. I might get away with just the top mount... With "hybrid snow mode", the car was OK in light (5-10cm) snow in January.

    @@andymschott I have a 55lb Australian Shepherd and the amount of room between the two vehicles is negligible. I would rather have the dog ride in the 4Runner, only because the vehicle is not as nice as the Lexus. There is PLENTY of room for a dog in each. We also have a couple baby strollers and I don't notice a significant difference in either vehicle space wise. Just a hair more in the 4runner. If your dog doesn't jump out, I think he or she would prefer the idea of the back window rolling down.

    New subscriber, I have the 08 Rx350 same color but instead of a 4Runner I have the sequoia and a 2000 es300. And bought my mother a Corolla, I worked at toyota Lexus 14 yrs , I’m all yota Lexus. I’ve worked at most car manufacturers and this is the best. Just watch out on the 3.5L the water pump goes out kinda early, replace the 2 idlers also. Mine was purchased just over a yr ago 91,500 miles and wtr pump went out 96,800 it is a flaw considering I’ve seen them come through 95,000-110,000. My es300 still has same wtr pump at 173,000. I had a 1995 Camry xle gold trim package and same engine as the 2000 es300 3.0L. Only difference are are hose sucks in more air. Anyways great evaluation on both vehicles. I luv the 4 runners but couldn’t find one here

    Back in the summer I decided I needed a trash and bike hauler. Of the 2 that I own that are large enough my truck is too old and tired (it was my dad's) for even weekly use and the Outback is too new (ok for groceries, but not trash). My goal was to stay under $7k if possible ( trash car remember). I narrowed the search to a Highlander or Pilot. My bro just bought a '10 Infinity and also recommended the Volvo, but I didn't like the track record of either ( and repairs can get expensive). The Forerunners available just didn't seem to have the right price AND mileage. I was leaning very strongly toward the Highlander when I decided to research the RX350. Plenty of room, superb reliability, loaded with luxuries ( which immediately sold my wife-Lexus is very popular with the ladies) the RX350 rang the bell. I discovered that most of the used Lexus's available were in very good condition. I guess if you can afford a brand new luxury car, you can afford a garage and meticulous maintenance. I found a local female driven ( they usually are) '08 AWD with 130k for $8k. Obviously garaged, it's perfect inside and out except for no cargo cover. Seemed too pristine for trash, but I put down a used shower curtain in the back and use it anyway. It came with a hitch so I don't have to put the bikes inside. Yours has very low mileage and even though it was 12 years old I would call it a pretty doggone good price. Although you said, and I've heard others say, that 87 is fine the manual calls for 91 octane or higher. i ran some 87 through mine with no hiccups, but since I only drive mine once a week, and don't have to buy much fuel, I use non-ethanol 93 octane. I am very happy with the Lexus. It has tons of luxury, drives great, runs like a sewing machine, and is often the nicest car at the dump.

    The one in this video is RWD. You can get an AWD, but you will see a slight decrease in mpg, since any spinning rotational mass such as the differential shafts cut down on efficiency. Edmunds said the awd sill gets 19/24, but that seems more like the mpg for the rwd.

    Nice and I agree with you 100% Looking forward to getting one for my daughter later this year. For another $1000 that would include install and a backup camera you could replace that entire center console with an 11.5 screen from Phoenix Automotive. US Based company in California. Unit is Chinese and for many different cars. Seen similar but these guys support and sell directly. They are very particular about getting the orders correct for wiring. Plug and play pre-made wiring harnesses. Full Android 11 and will work 100% with one that had Nav or Not. My 2004GX was a non nav and got one in 2020. I now have full Android apps access including NAV, a backup camera, and full controls from my steering wheel. It retains most of the physical buttons. Takes a little tweaking but I have been super happy and they provide great tech support and firmware upgrades. Worth it for a car like that you will likely be able to drive reliably for 10+ more years! See my couple fun videos for my setup. Not an agent. Just a fan of it! Cheers!

    Thanks for the review.. Both are excellent choices I am still deciding which Toyota / Lexus SUV model I want to purchase. I have also heard somewhere that the Lexus takes full synthetic oil changes every 10,000 miles and uses only high octane fuel. Is this true? Also what kind fuel mileage are you getting from both and does the 4 Runner take high octane fuel and full synthetic oil also?

  • @ModernGreaser

    @ModernGreaser

    3 жыл бұрын

    Lexus comes standard with Full Synthetic, which is good for any vehicle. I run 1 year/20k full synthetic in all my vehicles. It's cheaper in the long run. The Lexus insists you put in high octane, since its competing with BMW, Mercedes, Acrua, etc. All these brands suggest 93, but some need it, others don't. The E39 BMW required high octane fuel or else the catalytic converters will clog on you. I've done research on the Lexus and found no "requirement" for 93. We've been running it for well over a year on 87 and it runs great. Most computers compensate for the the increase or decrease in octane. So feel free to run the cheap fuel! The 4Runner requires 87 low octane. Since the filming of this video I got rid of the 4Runner , since it had LOTS of issues which I mention on this video: kzread.info/dash/bejne/q42fk7KhgqTQpKg.html Still have the Lexus and have ZERO plans to get rid of it. Looked at a ‘98 4runner limited 2wd v6 in the San Diego area a few weeks ago with only 144,000 miles and 1 owner since new. Nice old guy he leased it then bought it but he had no service records and he had done every oil change and whatever else he had done to it all by himself. And he wasn’t a mechanic. Drove and felt great but considering that it had never seen a professional mechanic shop in 20 years…no thanks…only $5,500 clean carfax and title but who knows what was neglected. He never did the timing belt either.

    sorry for the late reply, I showed a 2007. 2010 was the first year of the new body style that also has a lot more electronic items, which is nice, but more things to break and more money in repairs. 04 was the first year of this style RX350. The dashes tend to crack and the window seals on the doors can get gummy, but this car is also in florida. 2 years and it has been great so far. I should do a follow up video...

The 2007 with the lsd actually has a more intrusive "fun" mitigation system working. So it's nanny skills are more effective. I prefer the 2007 RX350 over the 2005 RX330. I like the better acceleration, the better cornering the lower profile tires provide as the suspensions on both are the same. The 2007 also is loaded with every option available. I like the stereo system, the Mark Levison system. Both are great vehicles.
