What a great interview! His comments on what it takes to be successful as a sommelier are applicable to numerous endeavors and professions. Great advice to achieve any goal. Greece is an underrated wine region! Assyrtiko white wines are delicious!

Ironically I'm waiting to see my therapist too. I'm discussing issues that affects my studies and integrating the two completely separate worlds between psych and addiction counselor training with everyday family life. When the job you're training for is completely alien to those around you it can create a surprising amount of tension.

I think it is important we talk about these issues. Mental health too often is overlooked. 😢 and I am happy that Raimonds felt comfortable to talk about it.

As a consumer and wine lover, a sommelier with all the qualities you two discussed is rare, but close is often a wonderful experience. Your guest was very admirable!

This is also the reason why not everyone who wishes to become a champion gets there. Next to a wanting to be at the spot, great work must be invested.

Thank you very much for great podcast once again. Could you please consider to make a video with a "Mentor" of your MW study? Like, how to start or/and how to get yourself (myself in the future) ready for this kind of journey and what to expect... (working mom + study + tastings + travelling to the wine regions ) how to get that all together that it works somehow.. that would be a very interesting podcast (at least for me) see you soon with another video 😊😊

Interesting and entertaining video. I found it particularly interesting that to compete at the very top level in the world of sommeliers the mental aspect is crucial. I have read that the top football clubs in Europe employ therapists, counselors or people that help their athletes either hone, or develop that winner's mentality. Like a lot of people in the wine world Raimonds Tomsons is a humble and down to earth guy. It's funny that in athletics or sports champions often get very cocky or arrogant, but you don't see that too much in the wine world. As MWs, MSs and winemakers are often modest and quite personable. It was interesting hearing about his journey and life experience. It's great that people of influence in the wine world no longer only come from the "traditional countries", but from many places around the world. The Q&A section was particularly fun and I agree with all of his answers/comments; I don't know when German wine can recover from the stigma of Blue Nun and Liebfraumilch, but maybe it will happen in my life time. 🤣Greek wine is definitely undervalued atm, I just hope that it will stay under the radar. And not be like Etna, Santorini,,etc where 5 or 10 years ago they were great value, but now prices are steadily climbing upward. Great video Agnes and Prieka!

Thank You, You are absolutely correct. Raimonds is very humble and down to earth guy, and he has remained that way 🙌🙌🙌 I think German wines are over that Blue Nun stigma, I don’t see people disproving German wines as it used to be. So we are on the right track! 🙌🙌🙌

Oh yeah that's right! He's your countryman isn't he. What a funny coincidence. I actually knew who he is from before. Is it Riga that spits out all these great Sommeliers? It's a city that gets a lot of visitors if I remember correctly. What's going on there? :p
