Sculpting is a very important part of creating 3d models in computer graphics today. if you want to learn how to sculpt characters, creatures, or hard surface models there are many 3D sculpting software to do just that. in this video, we are going to go over 7 3D sculpting software that have different tools and features and can help you as a beginner artist.
7_SculptGL
SculptGL is a digital sculpting web app, meaning that will be able to use it online on the web browser.
6_Mesh mixer
MeshMixer an Autodesk software that can be considered a good software for sculpting in addition to fixing and enhancing meshes for 3D printing.
5_Sculptris
Sculptris is a simple and easy to use sculpting software that was developed by Tomas Pettersson and then was further developed by Pixologic the creators of ZBrush.
4_3Dcoat
3D Coat is an interesting 3D program that can be used for sculpting but it is kind of different compared to the others.
3_Mudbox
Mudbox is a software for 3d sculpting and painting developed by Autodesk.
2_Blender
Blender is an open-source 3d package that can do many things in a production pipeline. It can do basically anything that the other industry-standard applications can in addition to having the ability to sculpt.
1_Zbrush
ZBrush is a sculpting software that combines 3D/2.5D modeling, texturing, and painting. right now Zbrush is the most advanced and probably the hardest to learn on this list.

I've been lucky and could afford a license for ZBrush, the full version, and IMO it stands above everything else with head and shoulders. It is a shame that you no longer get free updates now that Maxon took over; but the perpetual license is still available. Not to mention that version 2022 is truly crampacked with useful features . And the best part? Despite its complexity I can even use it on my budget laptop, one that can't even run Windows 11!

I think zbrush is a bit more "organic" and complete but I'm afraid it will be a bit uncovenient for more "geometric" designs. What do you think? Thanks!

Late reaction but ZBrush can do all of this... it's actually quite good with hard surfaces. While the focus is indeed on sculpting it also provides a ZModeler brush which can apply modelling on any mesh. I find this extremely powerful because I can seemingly switch between ways of editing my mesh.

Zbrush has the worst interface ever used i tried many times to use that program since its powerful compare to blender but its such a huge mess that makes anyone confused how to even start and how even to learn, Blender for me gets 1st place cause lets be honest, free program that keeps getting better each update and its easy to use vs a paid program that is a huge mess of interface and which the developers didnt even care to upgrade their program over the years. Just a side note on Sculptris you better have a good pc with alot of ram or else it will keep crashing cause it consumes alot and the developers seem to not be able to fix that problem, but attention that program fixed and with some features could be a great program for new users to play around.

"Zbrush has the worst interface ever used" - it's actually very intuitive and wasy to use once you understand how it works. the same could be said of ANY software you haven't touched ever. "i tried many times to use that program since its powerful compare to blender" - they are actually now at par. blender has a lot of tools that zbrush doesn't, but zbrush also has a lot of toolsblender doesn't have. "but its such a huge mess that makes anyone confused how to even start and how even to learn" - there are literally millions of begginer tutorials, most of them for free, zbrush is a super easy-to-larn soft, if you want to try a hard software try right hemisphere's deep exploration without googling. "Blender for me gets 1st place cause lets be honest, free program that keeps getting better each update and its easy to use" i wont argue with that, im a big blender fan, but that doens't automatically makezbrush suck, just google "zbrush top row" and see how hated the soft is. "a paid program that is a huge mess of interface" it is not, that's just your opinion. "and which the developers didnt even care to upgrade their program over the years." maybe they don't care but it has been upsated many times. i have like 55 updates since 2009 all of them for free and zbrush 2021 has gone thru 6 major updates. "Just a side note on Sculptris you better have a good pc with alot of ram or else it will keep crashing cause it consumes alot" no it doesn't. my old laptop is 14 years old and runs it without problems with only 4gb of ram and no graphics card. "and the developers seem to not be able to fix that problem, but attention that program fixed and with some features could be a great program for new users to play around" it;s been absorbed by zbrush since 2016, and the sculptris pro mode in zbrush has been around since early 2017. of course they wont update it, it never got past the beta. there's no "best" software. f you think a soft is garbage and another is "the best" is simply because you don't know enough about software.

@@jorgezombie78 sir have alot of time to spare jesus u really think anyone gonna read that huge text, just make it simple, Zbrush its easy if u learn the program but still is a mess and not everyone can get into that program they have to see shit tons of tutorials and learn how it works cause for a payed program its very messy and it can be fixed easily, Blender in the other hand its easy to learn and interfance its clean and free, so one has money and time but doesnt really do much and other its free and they always trying to improve. I used alot of 3d programs so far like Maya, Sculptris, Blender and so one and Zbrush was the only one that feels like it really requires to read the manual to even make a stroke on the program, Of course there is no Best software for 3d model but anyone can name one that they enjoyed their expirience and actually were able to do something on contrary of zbrush that most people give up. So far i managed to create quite a few 3d models on blender, they are not the best but i can say i fucking done a 3d model while in zbrush still fcking confuse on one of the worst Software Interface there is and the worst part is payed.

@@WesleyR2803 I've been using graphic creation software for 35 years, you don't have any idea of what an ugly UI is. ZBrush is easy to learn, you don't need any tutorial more than using blender. Just try using blender 2.5. that's a bad interface with bad key apponf and bad user experience with bad feedback on interaction. Facts. Of you didn't read 30 seconds of text of course you didn't read ZBrush hints when you mouse over an icon. It needs more than 30 seconds and i can see that's your attention span. But I've colocked more hours on ZBrush alone than all the combined hours of everyone I know and i know people from blizzard, ilm, hot toys and I've been around since ofer alon was pixolator. So go figure why your opinion matters against literally millions of hours clocked from people that think otherwise around the globe.

Jasc Random I use it a lot, right now I have the latest update. There is a lot of good things I like in blender but a lot I don’t also. They seem to keep adding new features to make it a Swiss Army knife software when they should fix the basic things it is lacking. For example drag and drop importing, importing multiple files at once, and also the speed it imports large obj or other file types. Zbrush is lacking the first 2 things I said but it’s not a base 3d package and the importing mechanism makes sense for how it deals with models as it will update subdivisions

I have watched several of your videos, liked and commented on almost all of them. But I never heard you say anything about the studio called "Main Road Post" or shown there work in your videos especially about vfx yet they are the are big bird when it's comes to Houdini. Is it because they're RUSSIANS or . You can't tell me that you have never seen the movie INVASION which has got the largest and longest digital destruction sequences. Or complex camera animations. You have never recognized there great work as a visual effects studio. Why

Blender is great software but when it comes to sculpting it is the worst that even scuplt GL is way better , sculpting in blender feels like you are literally pulling out every triangle out of the mesh , when sculpt GL you feel the softness of the mesh deformating.

Blender’s sculpting feels great to me, it feels a lot like ZBrush’s, a lot of other ZBrush artists agree

Bit late on the conversation, but I have been using blender since it became open source. I have an old Softimage 7 license and the current version of zbrush. To be honest, as much as I love blender as it is blowing past where I stopped upgrading my XSI license, to be expected, and it is now my main 3D tool of choice, but for sculpting sorry guys, z brush is just world’s ahead. UI yep, I hate it, It could definitely benefit from a good updated version which focuses on the UI and user experience rather than world shattering tools.

Good video but you completely missed Nomad and forger on the iPad with the Apple Pencil. Nomad is new and £13.99 and fully featured. I know a lot of zbrush and blender guys who are using these softwares. Much better than the cheap pc software you list in this video.

ZBrush is the best, no arguments there, but if you pretend that ZBrush doesn’t exist, then I’d say that Blender or Mudbox would be the two best

@@cr4723 I'm gravitating more towards Mudbox now... I have a 2022 version for Linux, you can't even use ZBrush on Linux since there's no option for it there. Even more reason to use ZBrush less and less.

IMHO Blender is the only best software for beginners if we mean the sculpting. It is as simple as that and for many reasons. All the others... Are you kidding? Sure when you become more pro you may (or may not!) switch to a more sophisticated (and very expensive sometimes) soft but please - Zebra for the beginners? Even Sculptris is not a good option for those who learn sculpting (and it killed now by Pixologic)
