Great advice. I often search for videos about roof pitch and how that affects the look of a house. The pitch should match with the architectural style. Of course people should choose a style that is practical for their climate and budget. Mediterranean or Spanish style home roofs are 6/12 and less. Log cabins and some cottages seem to rarely be less than 6/12, and more often 8/12 +, which was due to the pre industrial roofing materials influencing the roof pitch. There isn't even much to read on blog entries about roof pitch and architectural style, it seems.

Seems like a good product for the flat roof. Just wondering why nobody is using fiberglass for flat roof in North America? The videos I see are mostly from the UK. This is the kind of stuff sail boats are made of. It will last forever.

Fiberglass does not handle well in direct UV light. The UK has a lot of cloud cover, I actually follow a guy in the UK who installs fiberglass there.

Extremely informative presentation and not to be skipped. I watched a few times, not sure if primer base is a different product, but seems same. I hope to build my own small place in high rockies of Colorado, so seriously harsh snow and ice cycles. I could use this on the second floors substrait of three quarter ply if snow season comes before l am finished framing. Only good view require height of second floor....could this substitute for metal roof? Our code requires snow/water and ice dam, so I have to apply this liquid apply product over that dam.

I have used this product in very harsh weather, and yes it is a great application to protect the build during the process, I have done it many times.

I want to do the same on my flat roof. It appears the manufacturer no longer has this product. I’m familiar with RV roofing systems. It appears you’re using synthetic felt instead of epdm. Is that correct? Also, the primer, is that the same as the glue that’s used for epdm? Thanks.

How long should it last 5 years 10 years 20?

Check with your engineer on that roof, you will likely have a huge snow now, and with going into the grand solar minimum with colder winters, this could be a serious thing to consider before deciding pitch of roof. Glad to help.

Hm why are you putting it on from the top down? 🤔 Shouldn’t you go from the bottom up?

I buy my product from Roofers Supply, mostly in the Intermountain West. I would call the manufacturer to find a retailer near you.

I'm interested in this roof system . The KM web site shows the product you are using is a primer /base coat acyrlic 55 % solids elastomeric roof coating , what top coat product do you use ?

Thanks for the reply . On their web site the manufacturer lists 7 top coats ,ps# 220 silicone , ps # 250 silicone , KM acryl 25-QS acrylic , KM acryl 25-QS , arctic cap acrylic ,arctic cap HV and final coat acrylic . Do you top coat with one or more of these ?

thanks for the info . My very limited experience and understanding of topcoats leads me to think 100 % silicone topcoat is far more durable than acrylic topcoats , so worth the extra cost , I'm really interested in your experience with acrylic vs silicone top coats as to durability in a harsh UV climate like Utah .

How long does this last on the flat roof? Would you use it on a whole home flat with a flat roof?

I would not use it on a flat roof but as an underlayment water protection I would. I would use TPO for a flat roof.

No, I put a wet applied product with felt mesh.

To be sure I'm understanding the full construction, it looks like osb covered with KM Coatings Primebase, some type of felt (is there a link/name?), another layer of Primebase, and then just regular house paint. I've never heard flat roofs be referred to as easy or cheap so I'm curious how expensive this would be for a DIYer with a 1000 square foot flat roof.

@@HowToBuildYourOwnHome I saw the link and was confused because it's to their home page with dozens of products not an individual product you recommend as the best option for how to cheaply detail a flat roof in a way that is not commonly known (and therefore I can't just google it or look at their general site). That's why I asked for clarification. Thank you. I don't see the felt paper on the site at all.

My new build house has a very low pitch roof. I literally cannot see the slope standing in front of the house. I'm very concerned about this. The builder has two roof styles for the same model. A few days after signing the contract I found out the structure is not the typical sloped roof but an almost flat roof. Is this something I should be concerned about? Although it has a 10 yr warranty I fear it may come with lot of hassles. Appreciate any feedback. Cheers.

Have the roof truss been ordered? If you can change that, you may want to do it fast. Where are you building? Is there a snow load. I stay away from flat roofs at all costs.

Could you re-coat with primer say after 5 years and than paint it to extend the roof life?
