    Thank you for sharing. I have a family of truck drivers, OTR (long haul) and cobra seems to be really good. Regular CB's. I haven't heard anything about the handhelds. I subscribed to your channel. Oh, and bearcat seems good too. Lol about the antenna. I have a small radio that has that kind of antenna still lol. A lot of drivers don't seem to answer back. Usually the old school, long time drivers talk back. Watch out though, a lot are pretty perverted lol. I went on the road for a while. My MIL was on the road as a passenger for about 20 years. Lol.

    The standard antenna is only good for 1 mile. Good enough for me. I’m a trucker. The new company truck I got assigned doesn’t have the CB radio pre install holder. So been driving without a CB for a while. But winter has come around. Need a CB radio to know what caused the traffic jam. It’s great to be informed. So I’m getting a portable one.

    I have one of these, the Squelch control or Variable resistor are intermittent sometimes it works but mostly not. Uniden has quite a few quality control issues. Would not Reccomend. I have had good luck with Older Masons and Radio Shack with extendable antennas that actually work although Fragile. The new ones are Lightweight and virtually IC's and surface mount components. Disposable and this one goes for Scrap Parts.

    What we have here is a beginner teaching people about Hand Held transmitters (HT). Some other comments caught the boo-boos. Chanel 38 is reserved for Lower Side Band. This Midland HT does not have that capability since it is AM only. The side band voices sound like Donald Duck until the clarifier tunes them in. Next is the antenna. He should have stayed with the stock antenna as it is for the 11 meter (CB) band. The rubber ducks do not perform very well because of the small wave length. Good idea on the telescoping antenna but the link is for a 2 meter/.70 centimeter dual band unit. That is a problem. Especially when you transmit with the wrong antenna. Cobra makes a quality telescope 11 meters antenna that fits most other BNC type. I think it goes out to about 27 inches. Still a shorty for 11 meters but it will be an improvement. Last is the use of the HT. Inside a car is not optimal with the glass and metal. At least stick the antenna out the window for height. Better yet, get out of the car and hold the unit vertical so the tip of the antenna is as high as possible. While 11 meter is high frequency (HF), it does like to go line of sight at night...just like UHF/VHF units. Holding the antenna horizontal and/or blocking it with your body lowers performance. The Uniden is a good toy for the money. Well worth the $40 to assist with your mobile CB unit at times.

  • @badbrad8918

    @badbrad8918

    3 жыл бұрын

    @cody austin your link is getting closer to what is needed for the Uniden CB walkie talkie BUT still 'no cigar'. If you look at the picture, it states the antenna is for 70 Mhz through 1000 Mhz. That would be the bulk of VHF and most of UHF. Citizen Band (CB) is 27 Mhz area or HF. Not close enough. The standing wave ratio would not be a pass. IF you could talk to someone, it would probably blow out your finals on the unit in time.

  • @badbrad8918

    @badbrad8918

    3 жыл бұрын

    @cody austin This telescope antenna from wearecb would be an excellent choice IF the Uniden unit is a BNC connection. It allows your hand held to still be portable giving a little more range. Best is it is set for the proper frequency range.

  • @badbrad8918

    @badbrad8918

    3 жыл бұрын

    @cody austin The magnet unit from Tram is a good pick. I prefer Wilson but no big deal. The magnet gives the advantage of using your vehicle as a massive ground plane. When placing your antenna, it is best to place it on top of your car roof dead center. I also will place it on the back trunk as it is out of the way even if it make the antenna more of a directional unit. The walkie talkie is no longer portable but the performance inside a vehicle is great for travel. It will do as well as any other mobile with the 4 watt PEP.
