I agree with all of these except for the Material Storage Expanders. I'd rather get bank tabs, and maybe one of the material storages. There are almost no materials you will ever need more than 500 of to craft anything. Having 2k of every material sitting in your bank is nothing more than a waste of potential money. It clicked for me when Teapot talked about this. He said, materials aren't there for stockpiling. They're there to be used. I don't own a single Material Storage Expansion yet and I've never had any real issues with materials in those 7 years. Especially if you refine stuff frequently, you're set. You'll never use up this stuff anyway. I'd rather have a bank tab for storage simply because of all the legendary shit that can't be stored in the material storage which you don't want to delete either.

@@shionkreth7536 The implementation is alright (except for the revenant bugs), what bugs me and the rest of the community is that they're behind a gemstore paywall, and a stupidly expensive one at that. You unlock 1 build template for ONE character for 300 gems (or 1 equipment template for 500 gems), that's ridiculous.

@@Snabader I don't consider that even close to stupidly expensive, myself. $10 USD for a one-time skill reset is stupidly expensive. $3.75 for the 4th and on pre-saved builds in a game where you can manually change it on the fly, and $6.25 for the 3rd and on equipment sets, which means more equipment inventory space, seems quite reasonable; definitely better than the industry standard for F2P games.

@@shionkreth7536 for people like me who are spvp and wvw mains it's annoying. I have to keep a book of builds and such because my templates where full since day one. And I'm cheap and don't want to buy new ones. In a single day I may play 4 differnt classes and ues 2 to 3 builds depending on what my comp needs or what I'm doing or if it's just flavor of the night.

Not just as alt-aholic, new char slot is most value for gems regradless what you do, for example I play only theif, new char slot for me = new build and equipment slots, more inventory space etc...

The infinite gathering tools have one major problem... you only get one set that you have to swap between alts, even with shared inventory slots it is aggravatingly annoying to switch to another character only to realize you didn't unequip them on the character you just logged off of. For how much they cost, you should get a set on each character. As they are, they're one convenience that I've never purchased. I'd rather use the mistlock sanctuary scroll to teleport to town, pick up some disposable gathering tools and then teleport back whenever I run out, rather than constantly having to deal with remembering to unequip and reequip infinite ones every time I change characters. After all, with some alts, I only run out every 10 to 20 times I log in to that character.

Given how frequently you mentioned them in this video, I'm kind of surprised shared inventory slots weren't on this list. They do become less useful the fewer characters you have, but they are an absolute godsend for people with more than a few, and I would put them on par with unbreakable gathering tools in terms of utility.

Agree, shared inventory slots and new character slot are way more worth than unbreakable tools, solely because the tools are not account bound (maybe for those who only plays 1 character will be good but for me who constantly swaps between characters, rather useless)

On this, they recently went on sale so I bought nearly 2 rows of it, and I use ALL OF THEM but 2 for other items such as salvaging stacks of unid's. Like, the shared inventory slot is so freaking useful, even if you only have one character.

To add, without the living seasons 3 and 4 you will miss out on crafting legendary trinkets aurora and vision

I think unbreakable tools is an absolute must. That was the first thing I bought with my 4k ultimate gems. I put the rest into a bank tab and gold for power leveling crafts

I have a big personal policy of never buy something from the gems store that is only a cosmetic, only buy QoL items. Agree with all items... I will add. You can have 3 Shared slots to equip unlimites tools in all yours pjs. The type is your choice. But volatile are the best . Mistlock is the best lounge, dont have a problem with that, but you can get "Lily of the Elon" upgrading your account to Pof Ultimate edition. Mistolock offers more things to Pve content. Mistlock one feature is the "Return to previous map". Also if you like WvW, Armistice Bastion is the one lounge you need. (It don have to access to the world map, but it had TEAM channel, and the zone is one of the best of the game visually) Storage Expander. A must. How many?. Starting is better with 750 max.. (this help with materials that need 3 stacks to be refined).. But realistic you could use far more. Like Mukluk said, this item are not mandatory, you can still play the game. If you dont need a Shared slot..its fine: If you dont need lounge its fine. (Dont go to LA, rata and Dr have far better loading times).

I have the Unbound Magic gathering tools and keep them in the shared slots. To make it easier to unequip when changing characters or logging out, I still have the vendor tools on each character. Three double clicks and I'm good to go.

Nice one! all the good stuff is here, maybe apart from the sahred inventory slots themselves. But I personally would put Mistlock Sanctuary at the very top. even if you have only 1 character, it gives you fast access to new Salvage Kits, new Gathering Tools, the bank, which helps with inventory management etc. It basically combines all the other items benefits (be it to a lesser degree, and of course not withstanding the point about LWSs) for a good price. Apart from that, I might have mentioned, that most of these items sometimes are on sale in the gem store. Thanks for what you do for the community and don´t take this as anything other then a personal opinion / constructive criticism, Muk! See you on Twitch and in the Bonezone!

I love the infinite gathering tools and the salvage-o-matics. Big QoL not having to remember to get a new mining pick or to buy more salvage kits from the in game merchants.

I was looking for a video like this. I'd like to buy something just to support the game I love. Now I know what to buy so it makes sense for me as well :D

Good video, all these recommended things are great :) And for me, from all the utility purchases, the best item was: bundle of Unbreakable Gathering tools. It was on sale at 1200 gems back when I bought it... And I only had 1200 gems total at that moment :D So I felt a bit nervous after the purchase. But since that day, I no longer had to worry about constantly purchasing right tools. I no longer had to compare the cost of picking up certain material VS cost of the amount of tools used for gathering that material. Unbreakable tools allowed me to gather all materials anywhere! This was the only reason why I could finally level all crafting on my characters. Permanent gathering tools were the most game-changing feature :D And of course, different Glyphs are very helpful to use on those tools.

Put any three gathering tools in your shared equipment slots. When you are about to log out or switch character, double click these to swap them in. Your unbreakable tools will be available in the shared inventory slots to use on any character.

Pretty solid guide overall, covers everything I'd recommend as well.

Reusable Teleport to a friend is my personal recommendation. Join running events, get new characters on far away maps , just getting around. It's super versatile. Cheat anything as long as there are people or friends :D

@@shionkreth7536 it's really useful to get somewhere quickly, running events are one of the best uses, but yeah, the one hour of played game (per character) is really annoying. If you have an alt just make sure you play with it for an hour to get the cooldown.

The 1hr cool down is a little absurd should be 30mins. But it does come in handy when playing a new char and needing to get to a HP train at a waypoint you don’t have on them yet.

Solid list. The first expanded storage is the best of course, but the next two are also really, really good. The last four... you can probably live without. Yes, huge gap before unbreakable tools. Such a pain if you run multiple characters. Cheaper and less hassle to just buy alts all an extra slot and fill a bag with tools every so often. It'd be swell if Anet made tools (and legendary gear) easier through shared slots or a collection screen or something. Owners of multiple sets of tools could trade them in for extra glyph slots, gems, or something rad.

I agree with all of these. Infinite gathering tools you can also get with black lion statuettes. If i could add 1 purchase to the list it would be a second or even third bank tab.

Probably my top 1 would be the (first) increased material storage. This was sooooo good for me. Freed so much space in my bag. :D But all in all i pretty much agree with this list exactly with how you ranked them. :)

Forgot to mention for the ones who say this is p2w that you can also get gems just for playing the game. The achievement system gives gems along with all sorts of skins for armor and weapons!

Home portal stone is one of the purchases that is a waste of money. You can't choose where to teleport. Which makes it inconvenient for dailies. If you have alts, you might as well park them in front of the home instance.

Good video, I bought the mist pass while it was on sale now I'm waiting for everything else I want to go on sale to get the best bang for my buck. :)

I see a lot of people sending players to your channel on reddit and forum and you have so many good guides but being totally new they will likely be overwhelmed. This is what I found the most useful as a new player, in order of purchase: 1. ONE extra bag slot for the character you play the most - it makes a huge difference! 2. Living world seasons - because content, 'nuff said! 3. Copper-fed salvage-o-matic - super convenient! 4. Mistlock sanctuary pass - also very convenient, and alt-parking is a source of income! 5. Unbreakable gathering tools - makes gathering less of a chore 6. Account wide slots - now very good for items 3-5 (and 7) 7. Runecrafter's salvage-o-matic - for your green items 8. ONE extra bank tab (for when you've played for quite a while and the basic one is overflowing with stuff you don't want your alts to carry) 9. Extra characters - for carrying more of your stuff, trying more professions and more alt-parking! 10. ONE storage expander With all this, your gaming experience is greatly improved and you'll get a lot out of it. If you're like me and you don't purchase gems with real money, I highly recommend that you do your purchases when the gold to gems exchange ratio is favorable (at least under 140 gold for 400 gems, preferable around 136) and when the items are on sale, it is going to save you a lot of gold in the long run!

One thing that I always like to point out whenever unbreakable tools are mentioned, is buying the "Path Of Fire Preparation Pack", especially when it's discounted during a sale. Definitely much better in terms of value for money.

Storage Expander and Volatile tools are the best. I'm still trying to get the Permanent Bank Access Contract, but it's inside the Black Lion Gambling Chest. If you have the gold, I think it sells for 5k gold in the TP -- which is out of reach for me. Same goes with the Permanent Trading Post Express Contract and Permanent Black Lion Merchant Contract -- all in the gambling chest.

100% agree. The infinite gathering is king. I bought 1 or 2 sets... but I eventually got the inifite merchant pass. So my alts who don't have mining stuff just uses the merch pass in my shared inventory to buy more mining stuff whenever lol

I think excluding living world and maybe the storage expansions. those are for more experienced players, not mainly for the investments, but for the the fact it may break the complete game experience. I believe inventory management, the need of having to purchase salvage kits and gathering tools, and even have to walk across maps in order to buy or sell things is part of the experience. A player with more time invested is supposed to have experienced already those things the "mortal" players have to do, and those became an annoyance, making those purchases justified.

The volatile magic gathering tools are probably the best purchases I ever made in this game

I sort of skipped around the video, but shared inventory slots deserve to be on the list if they weren't there already.

I've actually also bought the unbreakable gathering tools (for around 2000gems on sale) and they are nice HOWEVER just from a pure logical perspective they are not really worth it at all. 2000 gems are around 600gold. Now let's consider bag slots are also on sale. You can get them for aroud 280gems on sale. If you were to buy 4 bag slot expansions that would net you 1120 gems / 340g. That leaves us with around 260g. Now considering you can craft 28 slot bags for around 65g that takes up the leftover 260g. That would grant you 112 new inventory slots. Meaning you could literally put 37 of each gathering tools in those slots and have them sit there all the time in case you need them. Honestly if you think about it that kinda makes more sense IMO as you can use the additional slots for other stuff too. This whole calculation is also based on you having a main char tho as bag slots are char bound. The unbreakable tools are not (but honestly I've never used them on anything but my one main char).

to the "is it pay to win?" question: To convert gold to gems requires you unlock HoT or PoF first, so F2P accounts cannot use that feature. That said, there really isn't anything you can buy on the gemstore that will give a tactical advantage over another player, so you can pay all you want, but you still won't win...

You can buy gem, make into gold then buy equipment on TP (even legendary),even the armor sets with the prefix name for your build.. And as you mentioned, you need expansion. Yes... not p2w.

@@sery8801 you can do almost anything with exotics, ascend is only 4% more stats, only top fractals need ascend prob

As an Alt farmer myself, I really surprised you did not include Shared Inventory Slots on this list. Another that I'm surprised is not here is the Recharge Teleport to Friend item. That is a HUGE quality of life item for players who are struggling to get somewhere in a hurry, like to an important event (I.E. Metas) before the time runs out. But overall, This is a VERY helpful list. Thank you so much for sharing and your input.

I think EotN is actually a fine hub too. Worse than Sanctuary but it kinda moves it down in priority. Secondly, unlimited gathering tools sure save you from buying new ones but instead you will have to move them from one toon to another if you play several ones so you kinda trade one annoyance for another.

1:25 It increases the material count you can HOLD in YOUR material storage. Don't forget to also read every description of every utility item from the store, folks. I had bought this one years ago to see literally all stacks in the game to be 250 instead of 500. Needless to say it even tho i got disapointed it was still worth it.

For me - Permanent Bank Access Express - is No.1. I've had it since Year one of Gw2, map complete Black lion Key opened up a chest and there it was. In shared slot, it gives me how ever big my bank is as shared slots. Such a time saver, only go to major hubs to do crafting, or AFK posing :) Edited: Reason looked up price on gem store and discovered it is Black Lion Chest only. And it's silly gold to purchase. So not in keeping with videos topic, but there is a thing for those reading that exists and it is great, if you ever get it.

I'd put the unbreakable tools way lower simply because they are only for one character for a large cost. Meanwhile you can get unbound magic tools for karma (so essentially free). There are many ways to spend 3k gems in the store - character slots, other salvage kits, bank tabs, shared item slots, even other single-character purchases like bagspace or gear tabs seem more worth it.

Thanks, Muk for the recommendations! I agree in a sense that the game is not technically a buy to win...but people do buy gems to get gold and ultimately get legendaries and better gear. I understand that it's mostly aesthetics, but it definitely has its flaws.

You can't buy ascended gear with gold, and you can only buy generation 1 legendary weapons from another player. You can't get legendary helm, shoulders, chest, legs, boots, gloves, rings, necklace, accesories, backpack, or gen 2 weapons from gold, you have to unlock those yourself. But as for flaws sure, it isn't perfect.

Just bought the Mistlock pass today. Debating buying the unbreakable gathering tools but id need 3 more shared bank slots to pass btwn characters. Though im unsure if 2400 vs 2700 has any differences to its functionality but i like gathering. Lol guilty of stopping mid fight to gather that plant or mine that rock

ive got a quick question about the living world seasons. Sometimes those are playable again for free (but not all steps it seems) If they are partly free to play, can you enter the locations (as example dragonfall) later when the free return has ended without buying them? Or is it a one time only trip?

the infinite gather tools was the best spent gems i ever had, 1200 because at the time they were 50% off. Money saved is money earned :) they definitely have made back 3x's there value now.

I prefer the royal terrace to mistlock, beautiful tiny little corner with everything I need tightly packed. :)

How much better are the volatile magic gathering tools vs the infinite gem store tools? Has anything changed?

About "Unbreakable Gathering Tools". They cost 2,400 (and contain 3 tools without glyphs). I saw Trading Post for glyphs and the prices are scary. So my question is --- What is better in long run, to buy set for 2400 gems (then eventually buy glyphs OR glyphs not so important?). OR maybe buy each tool separately (3 x 1000 gems) which has a glyph in it already? Please help with this decision. Thank you!

Volatile ones are preferred mostly because they come with a slotted volatile magic rune that gives you extra magic every time you gather. In terms of profitability long-term, it's the best. However, if you dont really care about the rune, any unbreakable tool will do.

If you're adamant about not paying RL money on the volatile tools, I suggest farming gold > converting to gems and waiting for the tools to become available on the store.

I have some big projects planned lets see what's happened.. when the time comes and I don't have gold that time i will use RL money caz gathering tools are must as I have already paid for living worlds stories. and bank space expansion.

Also good: Character slots, bank expansion, boss timer

Or wait for 50% off of the unbreakable tools. Bought them for 1200 gems and never regretted it

It took me way too long to figure out that the Copper-Fed salvage kit used the your money. I thought it used copper ore haha.

LW Season 2 will also get you some easy Central Tyria mastery points. If you're like me and don't want to spend hours wiping in CM fracs, falling to your death on the Not So Secret diving challenge or play WvW for hours on end just for a spoon LW2 is worth the investment.

Armistice and Mistlock share the "port back to where you were by clicking it again" functionality which makes it good for alt parking. However armistice cannot see the world map (as it is inside WvW) so waypoint out you have additional loading screens.

Any idea if and when the other two salvage-o-matics will be back in the store? And why they are not available any more?

I don't know exactly when, but silver fed and runecrafters show up on a rotation. Just keep an eye on the store and they will come back.

Volatile give the most income in the game at this time.

For me the expanded material storage.

How many shared slots do you recommend? I ask because a lot of these items are best used between characters… and shared slots themselves are a purchase.

IMO only get shared slots when you need one. If you get copperfed salvageomatic and actually play more than one toon, then yeah its nice. If you later get mistlock pass key, then get one more, etc. I wouldn't (personally) buy a bunch and just have them sit there.

My current money is to spent on outfit, i really want alot of shared space but 800gems for 1 slot is just too too much.

tools would be great if not smalll issue - one char at the time has access to those so u have to move them between chars.

He left out it's a huge QoL to have 3 shared inventory slots for them also. You can then keep regular harvesting tools on alts, and you can simply double click on your unbreakable one in your shared inventory. And they will trade places with the regular tools on your alt, just be sure to trade them out when you log out.

Spencer is correct, I mentioned it in some previous vids but forgot to in this one. If you move the gathering tools to shared account slots when you log out you can easily reach them from any toon.

Armistice Bastion is a better choice for WvW players than Mistlock

Is there a reason you did not include candy corn gobbler? It effectively gives 3 boosters for infinite amout of time (karma, xp/wvw/pvp, magic find) and each of these boosters is pretty expensive on gem store and lasts short amount of time where candy gobbler is 300 gems and gives all 3 and is infinite.

I thought blues AND greens were salvaged with the copper fed? :o

I'm just new to the game (bought it like 8 years ago , played to lvl 10 , was completely lost , left :P) Back playing way more , my question is how do you get a shared stash ?

Hi I am new too, but I think you just have to hit a certain level and it unlocks. Something around 40-50.

You are correct, I should have phrased that better. The point I was trying to get across is that if you got the expansions ($30 or $15 if during a sale) you could still enjoy the benefits of the gem store without spending more money, you don't have to be a whale.

Is there any location that is good for gathering alot of copper or iron ore

So you mentioned Living World is free when it comes out - If I log in when it comes out do I get to keep it? How does it work?

Yes, when a new episode comes out if you log in within the next month or so it is unlocked forever on your account as if you had bought it.

I'd say that the portal scroll is not that useful. For alt parking just go to the pvp lobby or to wvw.

I do not buy Character bound upgrades. I will GLADLY pay that for ACCOUNT WIDE unbreakable tools but I will not juggle them. Same with bag slots, and templates as currently implemented.
