    Mate, you have such an angelic voice, I'd listen to you for days. It is absolutely impossible not to like your videos. I'd wish this was Amazon Alexa's male counterpart . I always wanted an ust projector but their input lag threw me off every time. I tried with the new Xiaomi 4k, and besides the horrendous input lag also had a ton of problems. So i settled with a Sony vpl vw360es, bought brand new at an amazing price. Also ordered a dark energy screen and a curved frame. I love playing games on huge screens. I also keeping my 77" oled which is amazing, but to be used when episodes as the latter Game of thrones are released. Good job. Subscribed.

    Just a heads up to anyone thinking of buying one of these. I ordered a 100" to go with Optoma CinemaX P2. The first one turned up twisted, due to manufacturing issues. I was sent a replacement. This was mutch better, however it had a vertical crease on the left hand side from top to bottom. I was told this would come out over time, but it didn't. Tried warming the area with a hairdryer and leaving the screen erected as advised. But this did not rectify. As it was a vertical crease and this screen is not fully tensioned horizontally, there is nothing to stop this happening. Although this screen is very nice, I would strongly advise a fixed screen for an UST projector!!!

    Can't overstate how true this is. If you go UST you will really want an ALR screen. With a UST projector, the angle at which light is hitting the wall or projector screen, any imperfections are even more prone to show up than when using a regular throw projector. On my Stewart Firehawk I immediately saw imperfections in the screen that I never seen when using standard throw. My ceiling also looked like a strobe light with my Optoma P1. There are really only two choices (technology wise) for UST. Lenticular and Fresnel. Lenticular based screens have a lower gain, they increase the contrast dramatically. Pretty much every UST ALR screen uses this technology. Fresnel was originally created by DNP but XY has a model. Each has it's advantages and disadvantages. Lenticular has better viewing angles, no glare (easier on the eyes) but a lower gain (typically 0.4 to 0.6) and mainly blocks ambient light from above. Fresnel has a brighter image (1.0 to 1.2 gain), rejects light from all angles except the UST PJ but also has limited viewing angles, is hard screen, has a glare due to the technology, and can be prone to hot spotting. Right now they seem to mostly used for bright conference rooms. Up until recently Fresnel was also limited to 100"s but DNP says they can make them in any size. With that said, I could never find a price on the DNP, only phone number to authorized resellers which just means i'ts way out of my price point. I ended up with the GrandView dynamique. Based of my research it was pretty much on par with the much more expensive Da-Lite and SI models, while still performing almost as good. It can resolve 4K pixels, while the Elite Aeon CLR is only rated for 1080p reducing sharpness and I got a great deal on it due to buying the P1 and the Grandview from the same authorized reseller. I reached out to some XY Fresnel resellers. No one would ship just one Fresenl screen as it's hard screen so the packaging is HUGE. I was also skeptical of ordering directly from China. @@allthingstech Thanks! First up major upgrade in 3 years but it was a big one. I ended up doing more research on UST ALR screens then UST PJ's. To me it was always between the LG and the Optoma, and later I thought about the Vava but since the P1 just won Projector Central's Editor's Choice Award for the year, I think I made the right choice as the LG was to expensive once the price was announced. The review also clearly explains why the P1 defaults back to Cinema mode all the time which has been a minor headache as I had to start writing down all my settings but this should be addressed via a firmware update in mid June per Optoma. Not sure if you ran into this during you review but it is quite annoying and has to do with switching between HDR and SDR content. If you have it preset to HDR Sim for SDR, then watch HDR material, it will revert back to Cinema mode once you switch back to SDR content. Projector Central is going to revisit the LG to compare to the Optoma so I am looking forward to seeing that comparison as it's starting to seem like the LG costs more due to using two lasers and a yellow phosphor to get rid of the color wheel. I have a feeling this added to the costs. I do wish I had LG WebOS as the apps on the P1 are a joke and it would be nice to watch KZread in HDR. I'm not a fan of KZread forcing VC9 version 2 codec for HDR instead of HVEC. It's sad that the 2019 Shield Pro can't do KZread HDR considering it's the best Android streaming box out there right now. I think only the Chromecast Ultra and LG WebOS currently do KZread HDR. www.projectorcentral.com/Optoma-CinemaX-P1-UST-Projector-Review.htm Anyone with questions can follow this thread on avsforums to get updated info on the P1. www.avsforum.com/forum/24-digital-hi-end-projectors-3-000-usd-msrp/3041368-optoma-p1-4k-laser-ust-ces-78.html#post59678434

    Thank you for the great video. I have a question, are all ALR screens created equal? If money was no option what screen would you recommend for an ultra short throw in a room where the screen needs to be out of the way when not in use? Thanks again

  • @nicholasjacobs1967
    @nicholasjacobs19672 жыл бұрын

    Great info, thank you. So having used an Epson 5030UB 1080p projector for years, with a Stewart FireHawk (silver/grey) I'm thinking about getting a Short throw Laser projector. Of course the Stewart screen is fixed, 108" diagonal and is the same material used by Steward to make the Cinema screens. So its a great screen for normal projection. My question now is how well this screen will perform with a Short Throw projector. The ALR Projector screens toot to cut out ambient light and perform well reflecting the short throw light source directly to the the viewer. My Stewart FireHawk does not have that special reflective property. So I have to wonder how well it will work, and how well it would work compared to high end ALR screen. My Stewart screen was CAD$2500 when I bought it 8 years ago, so it was the best available at that time. I feel you could do an another video comparing Stewart, Da-Lite, and some ALR screens, as I'm sure many viewers have already got a decent projector screen that they don't want to replace. Thanks for great video.

    I don't know about using a wall as an UST screen. I was using a wall as a temp screen before I had a permanent ALR screen up and it had many of the problems that you had with the drop down screen. Visually, the wall looked flat. But, any (and I mean *any*) imperfections which deviate from *perfectly flat* will be magnified. I had the same (albeit static) wavy pattern that you did with the drop down screen. Now that I have a permanent, flat screen, this problem no longer occurs. I'm using the "Hayluk 100-inch Projector Screen,4k HD Ambient Light Rejection(ALR) Projection Screen, 16:9 Ust Ultra Short Throw Movies Screen,Indoor Video Home Theater, Edge Free Fixed Frame Screen" which I got on Amazon for $400 ($500 - $100 coupon).

    Thanks for the great advice on screen choice. I have two burning questions that nobody seems to be able to answer authoritatively: 1. Where can someone in the UK see and buy these things? The screens and projectors seem to all ship from the US (if you can at all) or the far east. Is there anywhere that does them locally and has showrooms I can drive to? 2. My room layout is prohibitive when it comes to UST or long throw options due to having a Mrs who doesn't want it to "look too modern". So my only real options are to try hide the equipment in the ceiling if possible. I cannot find any help or advice in written or video form that talks about UST and ALR screens that are ceiling mounted. The P1 manual says it's possible to ceiling mount but may void warranty. The Logitec has settings in the menu to flip the image. ALR screens are specially designed to reject light from above - what happens when you turn it upside down? These things are woefully low in content online, so would be really useful getting something from someone like yourself that can help make these decisions. Love your videos, great work!
