I just started a 30gal AIO anemone tank and decided to use the Ocean Direct Oolite sand. Sooo glad I did! Just a month in and I already notice a huge difference. My tank is loaded with copepods, Amphipods, micro brittle stars, and small bristle worms. This is a level of “live” that I have not seen in a tank this young. The grain size is great for this use case because of the lower flow and it’s making me consider adding a bag or two to my established 120 just for the biodiversity.

Hawaiian black is the best looking sand ,due to the contrast of the corals and also is the ideal size. The issue with magnetic particles and scratching the glass you just need to be a bit focused when you clean near the sand. I use it for 6 years and had no issue with scratching the glass with a flipper magnet. The only problem it has depending on the batch ,is it leech heavy metals like aluminum and vanadium in the tank over time... mine does..more than 8 ICPs prove it, i considering change to special grade in the future due to that..

I got a second bag of special grade for my tank upgrade, because it's the one I already have. Goby has no issues going to town and landscaping the hell out of it. He takes the larger bits and spits them into a corner.

Question: So at the beginning of this year I started my first saltwater tank an only recently started adding carbs and hermits and getting fish soon, thing is I'll be moving end of this year/start of next and wondering how do I best go about moving my 20gal tank 4 hours away to a new home?

Did any of the Aquabiomics tests show the Ocean Direct seeded tanks as positive for bacteria related to STCLD (Microbiome) or Uronema (TankDNA)?

Do you risk diseases and ich with the sea direct? What’s been done to eliminate the bad issues?

Is it still best practice to rinse sand before adding it to the tank? Or what is the best way to add it now? Also very interested if adding live sand would add any type of diseases when there is so much emphasis on quarantining fish and inverts.

Seachem Gray Coast is the best black sand. It's just calcite, it doesn't scratch glass, and has a more uniform grey color compared to the black with white specks of the CaribSea. The grey basically looks black under reef lighting but it reflects a bit more light than a true black which helps soften shadows. Looks amazing IMO!

I have to look at this now! Tonight I dumped my black sand as I reset my 240. I was going back to black again because I have learned just how to use a magnet carefully. I found this as I did a quick search to make sure there wasn’t a kind I was missing.

If Ocean direct is being taken straight from the seafloor without drying and sifting it, I wonder what the risk of it carrying ich from the ocean to your tank is.

None of the above....best decision for me was a bare bottom on my reef. So easy to clean and keep clean, less issues with algae, balanced system and skipped the entire ugly phase.

A bit over a year ago, my son built our first desktop PC . He used a 5700G, and is still happy with it even without a GPU. Over the winter I built a general purpose family PC , and used the 5600G , and it does what we need for now. Both were pretty fair builds as far as cost. I could see a lot of reasons to still build similar or even more powerful AM4 machines into 2023...
