Because his style was not about tactics like most of the players now. His style was about instincts and beauty of the game. That's why he wasn't as much about titles, but about moments. Although he won definitely titles like UEFA cup in 93, he was second in WC 94, he had official titles with Juventus in 95 and AC Milan in 96.

Definitely agree, here in England not many people talk about him, probably because we didn't qualify for 94. Baggio is one of the all-time greats.

Yeah that missed penalty really did his legacy in, which is really unfortunate. On the bright side, at least he wasn’t Colombian 🤷🏻‍♂️

I hate the referee when bulgaria was on semi finals whit italy and this referee don t give A penalty to my country but give to italy

Baggio is much under-rated. He is worth more respect and appreciation.

Many people just remember that missed penalty from the '94 World Cup and let it define Baggio. They are very wrong though as Baggio was majestic, a real superstar, and he did everything he did with practically only one knee! He broke his right knee extremely badly when he was 18 years old and still managed to become the best player on the planet. Briefly but he still did it! Baggio is my all time favourite italian footballer alongside with Paolo Maldini. The '94 WC was the first one I saw live and Baggio is one of the 4 names I remember the brightest from that tournament alongside with Romario, Gheorghe Hagi and Hristo Stoichkov.

What people forget too is even if Baggio scored, Italy was still down a goal. Bebeto was up next and would have sealed it anyway.

He should be remembered more, he was unplayable on his day even with destroyed knees

Here in Italy Baggio is still loved by everybody, despite the fact that he changed a lot of teams (including the three most important: AC Milan, Inter and Juventus)... For us he will always be Divin Codino (The Divine Ponytail)

This time i was 7 years, but after 26 years when i see the moment ( R.BAGGIO ) missed Penalty. Crying starting in my deep heart ... 😔😔 I will never this moment. I really really Love Baggio’s playing style . Still daily i watching Baggio’s Goals... Love from Kurdistan.

Best Italian player of all times, best player in the world in the first half of the 90s, and most Italian player to score for Italy in the World Cup (tied with Rossi and Vieri in 9 goals, but he has 2 extra goals from penalty shootouts).

What a great player he was. I wish he had won the World Cup, although he came close thrice as Italy were 3rd in Italia 1990, 2nd in USA 1994, and were eliminated by eventual champions and hosts in France 1998. Lunga vita, Roberto Baggio!

I loved Rufai's comments about his goals against Nigeria recently; it was so nice to see that he still had so much respect for Baggio after all these years despite a heartbreaking loss. It was such a shame to seem them go out when they were such an exciting team and they played better than Italy to be honest; it was only thanks to Baggio's heroics that we made it through to the next round.

@@jackpuccini3143 Yes, Nigeria were formidable, a skilful and entertaining side, with a world class player of their own in the form of Okocha. Nigeria played very well at times, and looked far fresher than Italy for most of the game. But in extra time the Africans suddenly seemed less energetic, whether through mental disappointment at the late equaliser or pure fatigue.

Baggio, Batistuta, Del Piero, Totti....... all great footballers that once graced the pitch but now seemingly forgotten by younger football generations, to name a few. I once read a story that says Batigol visited the Argentina squad to give them some pep talk and a young player asks him: Who are you? 😢

Baggio will always be great. Grew up watching him, and learnt the value of hard work and dedication to be the best from watching him. He is still the man bro. Big respect to Baggio 👊

You should have mentioned he had a muscle injury in the semi-final and had to play with strapping in the final and was not his normal self. If it was not a WC final he would have been out injured. Such a shame.

Old school football was so pure. Today’s players are much better athletes but older generations were talent and class of a pure footballer.

Those old school players could still run circles on these newer footballers. Too many of these "coaches" and rule changes have destroyed football.

Baggio is one of the great players in Italy team.He played for great clubs like Juventus and AC Milan and won championship.

To be fair to Baggio, Baresi and Massaro had both missed their penalties as well and so even if Baggio had scored his, Brazil still would have won with their next penalty.

Yup...it's crazy that the narrative defined Baggio as losing the game. Italy would still have been a goal down if Baggio scored and Bebeto was up next. The game was lost at that point

Roberto Baggio will always greatest Italian player in World Cup history! I'll remember received a mail letter from Roberto Baggio few years ago during his time in Inter Milan. You can see the story of the letter in video "LETTER FROM ROBERTO BAGGIO!"

The roughly 10 mintues from Baggios first goal vs Bulgaria till his 2nd was the best display of offensive beauty that I've ever seen from the Italian national side. Bob Ley who was calling the game on ESPN said at one point "what magic from the Azzurri." That was after I believe Donadoni hit the post and Albertini had a nice chip shot that Mihaylov just tipped over the crossbar.

Baggio did his hamstring late in the semi final against Bulgaria so huge effort to even play in the final at all. Plus his shoulders were stuffed due to carrying the whole team!!

This man's play was of a Zico-esque quality. The team of Brazil in 82 held in Spain inspired his football technique. These types of players don't exist anymore

USA 94 when i was born, a different football world. He could be the greatest italian player if would won the world cup so close but still one of the greatest ever a different player his style of play doesn't seem like the common italian player he had flair, creativity, great finishing, flicks and tricks such a special player.⚽

I fell in love with football thanks to him 😍 Baggio had something very special in his playing and he is also a great person Unfortunately, these players no longer exist now

Its a disgrace they didn't give Baggio the golden ball in World Cup 94. He dragged his team to the final and he is the first thing that comes to mind when one thinks about the USA WC94.

Baggio and Paolo Rossi the most decisive attackers Italy had in World Cup competitions... Vieri gets close but was let down by poor tactics in 2002, the only reason why he could not take Italy further.
