Best of Mandolin U Srinivas Vol 1 | Carnatic Classical Instrumental
Музыка
Uppalapu Srinivas (Telugu: ఉప్పలపు శ్రీనివాస్; 28 February 1969 - 19 September 2014) was an Indian mandolin player and composer of the Carnatic musical tradition of Southern India. A child prodigy, he made his debut in 1978, and came to be popularly known as Mandolin Srinivas. Over the next four decades, he toured across the world, and collaborated with ohn McLaughlin,Michael Nyman, and Michael Brook.
Srinivas was born 28 February 1969, in Palakol in Andhra Pradesh. At the age of six he picked up his father U. Satyanarayana's mandolin, after he heard it played at a concert he attended with his father. Upon realising the talent of his son, his father who had studied classical music, bought him a new mandolin, and started teaching him.He started with the acoustic mandolin, though later he switched to the electric mandolin as he felt it allowed making long notes clearly audible.
He was the first musician to use electric mandolin in Carnatic music, he even modified a difficult electric western instrument, using five strings instead of traditional eight, to suit the Carnatic pitch, raga system, and especially gamakas, and nuanced oscillations.
He was awarded the Padma Shri in 1998 by Government of India, and the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award in 2009. He was a follower and devotee of Sri Sathya Sai Baba and he had performed before him on several occasions.

Verry...verry...super...heart...touching...music...mendolin
I watched his recital when he was a kid yet so matured in his music. Spoken words can never be enough to describe his music it could only be listened and felt.
An extra ordinary musician - Unable to believe that he is no more. His music and his contribution to music will live with us forever. May his soul rest in peace. K Manikandan Nair/Pune
It is not very often that one comes across a musical instrument so perfectly played that the chords pulled on it resonate with the musical strings in your heart....and when this happens, the effect is so sublime that one is moved beyond words. What a joy to hear......feel proud to have lived in the time of Mandolin Srinivas.....and such sorrow to have lost him . Those whom the gods love indeed die young..........

Ganeshan K S (Gummalapuram, Denkanikottai Taluk, Krishnagiri District, Tamil Nadu) We have lost the wonderful wonder of mandolin player vidwan MANDOLIN SRINIVAS who has played the instrument to ennoble billions of minds and vibrate billions and billions of souls through his divine music. May his tribe increase and my prayer to Almighty to rest his soul in peace.
Mesmerising musician indeed.Heard him for the first time in early Ninities at FICCI auditorium, New Delhi on the occasion of the Silver Jubilee of ICSI. We are unfortunate to lose him so early. His music will last for ever.

I read somewhere that he underwent marital trauma for the last 16 yrs of life. Im sure for most that would have dented professional career. But here is a man who despite that very level-headed, down-to-earth and always smiling at the audience during concerts. Sheer prodigy and God's gift.
Everest. Of.. Mendalin.. . dr. U. R. Srinivas........ From.. Tamilnadu.. India... Worldwide... Excellent... Exponent.... Inour... Indian music........... Congratulated
Letter to Sri Srinivas To Shri U Srinivas Care of - Sriman Narayana Vaikundam Dear Srinivas, You were tirelessly serving us from the age of 5. Not to forget your smile while you play the mandolin. You were very fluent in playing mandolin. We were celebrating you as a Prodigy and you were being sent by Sriman Narayana to spread music through Mandolin. I came to know about Mandolin only after seeing you play at my age 12. Since my age of 12 till today I always listened to your creations with full devotion and I really felt the divine in my heart whenever I heard you play Mandolin. You never failed even once in entertaining music fans like us. Your loss was a great loss for the fans like me. Thanks to youtube which provides us the platform to listen to your eternal music. Hope you are playing mandolin at Vaikundam entertaining Sriman Narayana and azhwars. Thanks for entertaining us and left your creations with us for us to enjoy. May Sriman Narayana give strength and blessings to your bereaved family. Sridhar

Can't stop from listening to this album.. so beautiful.. the ranjani chittaswaram is the best I have heard so far.. wish he was alive.. I'd have loved to attend his music live..
I don't exactly remember the year as a boy he played/performed Mandolin Concert in Sri Ram Samaj Ramanavami celeberations. Infact he was carried by someone to the stage n from the moment he played instrument he virtually became the audience's mass darling. Thereafter i happened to hear many concerts of his n everyone is memorable. Blessed immortal soul.
Gifted Musician and his masterful in playing the Mandolin instrument brings real to pleasure everyone watching it. Missing him badly.
the grandeur of the mandolin of the genius U.srinivas is splendid.. the style of playing and his depth of knowledge in carnatic music are swinging our hearts and souls. It is like sitting in the temple and enjoying the divine bliss around us.
The rare musical genius U.Shrinivas was born only for pure Indian classical music. He had done well in this karma and his place in carnatic music can not be replaced by anyone else. We are lucky to witness this great artist's eternal gems in carnatic music. Dear Shrinivas, your music is eternal although we are missing your physical presence.
What a wonderful rendition of Nalina kanthi.. I am sure he is at Amma's lotus feet playing Mandolin...
2:41 is divine bliss
God creates some persons with utmost perfection. Mandolin Sreenivas was created to spread ecstacy through his instrument. And may be we mortal human beings do not deserve such ecstacy for long, God takes such persons away to be near him immortally. Call him prodigy or genius, he played mandolin to our hearts and took us to the surreal world of perfection, eventhough for a few moments or few years. What he has left behind is enough for many generations to enjoy.....
What a beautiful rendition of each and every raaga. Behold- The ranjani is so dramatic while Mohanam soothes you and teases you...I keep listening to them again and again...its really sad to have just seen him perform live just once...i wish to see him again live...too bad he isn't anymore..Its a great loss to carnatic music.

Sreenivasj was really a great musician and a great loss to us awesome to hear his compositions
Starting the Bhairavi with a very short note of Alapana. யாரோ இவர் யாரோ ஒரு classic piece.
This is wonderful. I moved quite a few times, and on one of the moves the CDs didn't follow me, so it has been a few years since listening. Was sad to read that this fine musician has died a relatively young man.
We can have the best of all the good people concerts and through.youtube it's very good
Classical is class forever no fusion overtake classical.
How blessed we are to listen to melodious hevenly music. perhaps such enchaning music was required in heavens that is why this budding flower was plucked so soon. we were lucky to hear him. so far so good!!!

It was one of the saddest day in my life when I learned the sudden untimely death of Shri Shreenivasan. What we fans could do other than pray RIP . Hope that he would have been elevated to the deva sangeeth sabha as a asthana vidwan

Beautiful. Just beautiful.
Very sweet.A great artist we have lost so early
To Roger inKC: He IS playing the mandolin, albeit a modified electrified version. South Indian classical (Carnatic) music demands sliding notes and microtones, so it sounds very different than western mandolin.
he might have left us! but he gifted his music to us!
Good music is like the happiness shadow that follows the good-hearted. This is beautiful music that I haven’t heard in a while. Thanks
A great musical genius that we lost.
You are living in every mandoline
