Honestly i said that John might be the show’s protagonist but Kayce is the show’s hero. Because of the good he has done for white ranchers and the Native Americans he has accomplished a level of trust for himself with both communities. So he might be the bridge between both in the state of Montana. In fact I think the series is gonna end with Kayce inheriting the ranch and sharing it with the Native Americans. Not saying it’s definite. It’s just an opinion.

Kayce is a real inspiration, and probably the heart of the show. You can just tell that he can never shut off that militaristic need to serve and help, which is part of what makes him so endearing. He attacks everything with the best of intentions, and truly just wants to help whoever he can if they are deserving of it. He can't even drive down a road, see something "off" just beyond his glance and not investigate it or try to help in some way. And his position is a fascinating one. He is a Dutton, so he belongs to a family of land seizing modern cowboys and settlers, but he is also the white husband to a native woman who he is trying to raise a family with while co-existing inside her own community the best he can, though he sticks out like a sore thumb. He always seems to be in a tug of war with himself, not sure where he belongs or what he should do. The more he helps his father, the more he damages his position with Monica and her community, and the more he invests in making his own family he ends up neglecting the one he came from in their time of need. His circumstances aren't easy, but he makes the best of it by being a very principled, moralistic man in a show full of people without those nobler qualities.

@@sonofizzy My comment wasn't to ignore native infighting of the past. Every group battles themselves for land and power. But the white vs. native history is deep and the show plays it up to great effect, as "Longmire" did before. And what is the most refreshing about "Yellowstone" thus far is that for the most part, the cowboys and natives have been working together against a common threat to both, which is a nice twist on the old trope.

Yes, the good-hearted enforcer heir of the organized crime family. He uses violence and the threat of violence to further his ultra-rich corrupt family's goals. Beginning from episode 1, he could have used a small portion of his vast wealth to make sure that his wife and son are not under threat of violent death every single day. Back then he was morally against his father's criminal empire, and for some reason that meant he had to live in a poor violent shithole with his wife and son. If Kayce Dutton actually behaved according to his stated morals, he would have asked for some money and gotten his wife and son away from the domestic terrorist base that is the Dutton ranch. I haven't finished season 4 yet. Yellowstone is like if The Sopranos were portrayed as somewhat good guys.

In Germany we say „Wo kein Kläger, da kein Richter“ which basically means you need someone willing to press charges and see it through to have a case. In most rural areas, people prefer to not involve authorities. Even in Germany.

Luke does a good job acting. Either Kayce or John are my favorite characters. But probably Kayce, since he's the son. I relate to his dilemma as a man and a father doing what he has to do. He just wants to be a cowboy living a simple life, but realizes he has to step up to defend something bigger than his dreams. Lays his life down for a righteous cause. AND, he realizes that he can't run from evil people and just let them have their way. To fight back, though it cost him his dreams. He learns the hard lessons his father did and realizing his father's intentions were to provide for and protect his family. And he has the guts to do what others won't, all out of love. Everyone wants to be a badass, but Kayce is a family man too. He sacrifices a lot for the greater good and the people he loves. I love the scenes with him and Tate especially. This show elevates the kind of role models a man should have in America these days. I wish my generation would value the things the Dutton brand does. Integrity, love shown through actions, tough justice against evil, second chances, hard work and humility, and love for simple things, especially the value of peace and quiet in nature... God, please don't let this way of life die..

I love Kayce!! The cattle guard scene is by far one of my favorites! I am from CA and there are selfish idiots, who know nothing about ranching, from here that would buy in MT and act like this. What wasn't shown was when the rancher drove up and heard the guy shouting from the ground and just drove off. So good!

Dodge Ram is definitely paying the show to make their products featured. Coors is doing the same. Also, the Yellowstone hands were all drinking Buffalo Trace bourbon and the same thing applies. They call it product placement. Product placement is effective because it enables the audience to develop a stronger connection with the brand in a more natural way, rather than being directly marketed to. When a brand appears in a movie, TV show, or other performance, it is most likely because an advertiser paid for that privilege. The only way that product placement can get you into legal trouble is if you disparage a brand without its permission-making it seem defective, unsafe, or otherwise undesirable.

My Pete was a real cowboy, brave, protective of what he saw as right, not overly concerned with laws as such, a good rider. A dead-on shot. At his funeral, two of his previous wives came to honor his life and spoke well of him to me. I appreciated their kindness, but I was proud of him to have been loved by such fine women.
