  • @NoThankYouReally

    @NoThankYouReally

    15 күн бұрын

    @@rafsolo It's actually the Federal Estate Tax they're referring to. When you croak, your estate (not the inheritors) owes a tax on the stuff you leave them. There is an exemption, somewhere in the neighborhood of $10-$15mm but everything over that you have to cut the government a check. The problem is when you have a valuable asset to pass on but don't have the cash to pay the tax. A piece of land worth potentially billions would be a good example. Most ranch families won't have that kind of cash laying around to pay the freight, so they have to sell the land or business and that's the end of that. People will often get monster life insurance policies- at great cost- to cover the cost of the tax when they croak so their families don't lose their land, their business, etc. They'll also set up trusts to hold the assets. If you have an asset of that size, a ranch in this case, and you haven't done estate planning to protect it somehow, your heirs are going to get hurt, badly. Eat the rich tho I guess- even if they're not "rich" in a monetary sense.

    The series could very well continue with Rip, Beth and Kayce as the main defenders of the racho and Jamie as the villain, these spin offs do not have the same spirit, they tell the story from the beginning, but only Yellowstone has the unique and decisive climate , which and most importantly, the entire story of the series tells how the ranch survives over generations, as the only and main objective, then one actor decides to leave and the series ends, simple as that? it gets to be ironic 🤷🏻‍♂️

    It doesn't have anything to do with one character (ie: Kevin Costner) leaving. Taylor Sheridan had already decided these last few episodes to air this Fall, were going to be the end. He's already on new projects; Special Ops: Lioness, Land Man (with Billy Bob Thornton), and Findestkind (with Tommy Lee Jones).- among others on the list. Topping it is Tulsa King Season 2, which is entangled with so.many others in the Writer's Guild & SAG strike. Taylor Sheridan has enough irons in the fire. He was always clear that Yellowstone wasn't a long-term series. Sad as that is. Now that Costner's out, it just stands to reason. Lorne Greene was the backbone of Bonanza to the end.

  • @davidwolf226

    What is really troubling, if one is to believe the behind-the-scenes crap between Costner and Sheridan, is that this great series will be ending prematurely sometime later this year. Meanwhile, there is absolutely NO NEWS where the proposed "6666" series is concerned! I've been saying for months that I'm concerned that Taylor Sheridan has spread himself way too thin with all of his projects. It seems like we may be losing the great continuity of the "Yellowstone" series in deference to all of the other stuff that Sheriday is involved with. I hope I'm mistaken about this.

    Sheridan shot himself in the foot on this one. Costner made this show and series. It would have maybe gained steam as the series progresses without him, but Costner catapulted it. Other big names signed on because of Costner's name. Time will tell. But if he burns another actor or doesn't get going on these spinoffs... rerun royalties is all Sheridan will have.

    It isn’t the land ownership that makes Dutton a villain. It’s his complicity in unlawful actions and murder to keep ANYONE & ANYTHING from taking the land he believes at this point he holds in stewardship for his grandson. The 1st season alone with his casual decisions in having Rip kill to enact a coverup and a former ranch hand “ride the black train” for being nothing more than a shitty ranch hand was supposed to speak to Dutton’s ruthlessness as a main character trait. That’s not even mentioning the poor parenting that was foreshadowed there as well, especially with the branding of his youngest boy to “always remind him of his real family”. But Sheridan has written “more complex” issues with the later seasons that makes the character look like they’re fighting for a noble cause and that the ends justify the means. It’s almost like Sheridan couldn’t stand the idea of Dutton’s villainy overshadowing his noble savagery so he keeps introducing more preposterous enemies that require this behavior as a matter of survival. It’s honestly kinda sad cause a ‘Cowboy Sopranos’ isn’t a bad idea… Sheridan just doesn’t have the humility to listen to Costner about why possibly leaning back into season 1 simplicity may be more entertaining.

    IMHO Kevin Costner is one of those rare actors that has a facial features that you don't memorize so easily. And his acting performances are such that he doesn't carry the previous characters with him to the character you are currently looking. First movie where I saw him, I think was the Water World (1995) in movie theater and then Untouchables (1985) and Dances with Wolves (1990) from a TV. He has some great movies I really like, example The Postman, JFK, Thirteen Days, Swing Vote, The Guardian and Mr Brooks to mention some (including the ones above). And when ever I see one of those movies, I see on the the character he is acting. So it is not a Mariner in the wild west post-nuclear war or Mariner training people in coast guard, or dumb southerner owning a ranch in Montana, or Superman's father saving the US president. He goes under so many people's radar that they don't even realize him existing. And it is funny thing really. So maybe it can be said that he is a amazing supporting actor, but isn't never like a rock star. And then again, when you look at his curriculum vitae, he has not done absurd comedy or senseless action flicks. He is more of a character actor than anything.

    Can't wait for the season to start. It's been a long time coming. I'm sad & disappointed Taylor Sheridan has seen fit to move on from Yellowstone, I thought it had the possible longevity of a Bonanza - with much better writing & storylines. But as much of the 21st Century has shown thus far, producers think we have short attention spans. Too bad. Finally something interesting comes along and someone like Taylor Sheridan, who does have a fine mind for storytelling, determines how long we can enjoy Yellowstone.because he gets distracted & easily bored.

I will say the funny thing though is anybody who knows anything about Kevin Costner knows he has kind of a weak voice. So like what is going on with his voice. I love how everybody speaks, it's a Clint Eastwood speaking. Everything is like dirty harry. I'm waiting for Kevin Costner to be like, "A man got to know his limits.."

    Kevin Costner is not someone I look up to in any way. But he has been in some very good movies where he acts contrary to his own beliefs (as in this one) so I have to respect his craftmanship and his capitalism. Now if he could not be so stupid around anything having to do with women, he would be far better off.

    Kevin? Mr. Costner loved being John Dutton, but the direction of the story line was darker in season 4 and season 5 just awful. That’s the writing not the acting. You don’t tell a Hollywood legend who is also an executive producer to …. ‘Stick to acting”. Kevin Costner was winning Oscar for acting and directing before Sheridan was outta diapers. Sheridan’s ego killed the show.

    I love the portrayal of native culture in this series, but I always thought Rainwater was a hypocrite with unrealistic expectations. Here, he is in a three-piece suit with jewelry and other finery talking about restoring the valley to what it was before. On that same point, we've seen what reservation housing looks like. Very few of the people we've seen live like their ancestors did. If anything, they are angry that they are not in a position to provide better for their families and talk about living in poverty. I think Thomas is the only one who wants to live completely off the land, but yet he is the most westernized of anyone from the reservation.

    @@732am7 Yes, he was raised off-res. He said he actually thought he was Mexican for the longest time. But this is part of the reason he's a hypocrite. He hasn't known the suffering of his people a day of his life. He advocates for them, but he hasn't lived as one of them enough to know their plight or their needs and wants. It's all about the image of native american culture that he wants to preserve.

    This claim of "OUR LAND" is B.S. and needs to stop! These properties need to be reclaimed as PUBLIC properties and enforced with the same force that the indigenous peoples claim they own for just such enforcement. Indians TOOK this land by force and have NO right to such lands without proper enforcement to protect such lands that they cannot FORCEFULLY control.
