It has been announced today (Feb 9th 2021), that Rynagh O’Grady who played Mary has died. As brilliant a comic actress as she was (and the reactions here to her role in Father Ted testify), she was also a renowned theatre actress in Ireland and hugely respected and admired by her peers. Father Dougal nicks the lollipops and then Mary says” your looking great anyway” a classic Dougal expression of trying to access if Mary can really see him. The whole time as if Mary being in the cubby is perfectly natural. These days you need this humor.
