Best Grand Slam and tournament ever played by Federer, never drop a set in 7 matches. Final (10) Gonzalez 7-6, 6-4, 6-4 SF (6) Roddick 6-4, 6-0, 6-2 QF (7) Robredo 6-3, 7-6, 7-5 4R (14) Djokovic 6-2, 7-5, 6-3 3R (25) Yuzhny 6-3, 6-3, 7-6 2R Bjorman 6-2, 6-3, 6-2 1R Phau 6-1, 6-0, 6-4 Every aspect of his game was perfect at this time: Footwork, Serve, Return, Forehand, Backhand, Slice, Volley, Drop shot, Smash. *IT WAS JUST INSANE!*

I would say his best performance is probably Wimbledon 2006. Beat Gasquet, Henman, Mahut, Berdych, Ancic and Bjorkmann all in straight sets, bageled two of them, and then BAGELED NADAL.

This is Federer's peak together with the Shanghai Masters around this period. On the true fast courts, Federer still beats Djokovic at 34. The replacement of Rebound Ace for the much slower and subsequently ubiquitious Plexicushion did more to aid Djokovic and Nadal than just about anything else. Also the use of much slower balls combined to blunt Federers style of play. The grinders gradually took over. Only Federer's superb variety of shot and surprise attack has kept him near the top.

Nadal had very little success at the Australian Open until they ripped up Rebound Ace and put down Plexi, which killed the pace coming off the court.

But wouldn’t that work both ways... Federer could not win much on slower courts... I hate the argument of not giving credit to nadal and djoker.. Federer is still the greatest but stop with the fast court talk..

gherbi hicham He was just a lot better, beating a rapidly improving Djokovic that threw everything at him, trounching an in-form Robedo (check out that ridiculous get at 1:58), destroying Roddick (who had the best serve at that time), and overcoming Gonzalez who beat Del Potro, Hewitt, Blake, Nadal and Haas to reach the final. Gonzalez was inconsistent, but he was always dangerous on his day, keep in mind he still leads Djokovic and Murray in the H2H ;) :P
