Se o capacete se fragmentar, haverá maior dissipação de energia sobre ele, o impacto sobre ele será grande, mas sobre a cabeça de quem usa, será um pouco menor. Só que esse "pouco menor" faz uma diferença muito grande num grande impacto. Numa mesma linha de pensamento, imagine que você esteja na direção de um opala e bate de frente comigo (eu na direção de um Honda Fit). A frente do Fit se acabará e a frente do Opala sofrerá bem menos, porém o impacto sobre mim (considere que o Fit esteja sem airbag) será bem menor e o impacto sobrr você, será bem maior.

Neither of these helmets are the gold standard for safety, but the second is going to be more protective than the first. Notice how the blue one has absolutely no foam whatsoever. Foam being the thing that actually absorbs impact. The second one does appear to have foam under the padding. Not that it’s necessarily your fault for not knowing, but the plastic used in the second one is better too. You can see by the pattern in the hole that the blue helmet is made of a brittle plastic. This doesn’t absorb much force at all. The second helmet is made with a normal thermoplastic commonly used in motorcycle helmets. This material tends to form micro-cracks under an impact which actually does absorb impact while maintaining the structural integrity of the helmet.

Helmet manufacturers, independent helmet certification standards, and government regulations and testing are my favorite sources. Specifically the tests surrounding the ECE certification. Those go into detail about what makes a helmet safe.

In short, helmets are meant to break. It takes the force of shock OUT of YOUR head. THAT'S what protects you. If helmet no break, your head will.

Engineers are not stupid. They just make mistakes, but it's a common mistake to assume if a helmet breaks it's bad mostly because y'all just believe whatever makes you feel smart. These helmets actually take the impact very well. They bend in with enough tension to save you from the impact without destroying itself. That way you never have to buy a new one. Most people in this commentary thinks they are a physics experts thinking that crumple zones in cars and helmets plays the same role. Helmets are meant to be the last line of your life when accident happens.. Yes it will absorb more energy if it shatters on impact thats true. However, absorbing energy wont do anything if something like the first helmet in this video happened. You dont have to be checked if you're alive when you see a pole sticking out of your head or rock gone through your head etc. Instead, helmets will be very flexible and unbreakable blocking objects flying to you or yourself flying to it. The energy on impact which directly goes to your skull will be mostly absorbed by the second layer of your helmet which is designed to absorb lots of energy. After that, the leftover will be sent to your skull evenly hoping that the impact is absorbed enough to keep you alive. This second layer is why you should not use a helmet after an accident even if it has no scratch on the outside. People keep thinking that helmets are made for them to ensure their 99% survivability. Its for them to have a small chance to survive and see the doctor.

I don’t get what people have against this helmet. Sure, helmets are meant to absorb energy and do so through breaking, but this helmet demonstrates excellent distribution of energy as well, taking a concentrated hit, such from the rebar, and distributing it. Any good crash protection depends on crumbling of the outer shell to reduce impact on the part to be protected. Same with helmets, the outer shell and foam layer is supposed to crumble in case of hard impacts but the inner part should not completely disintegrate either. The crumbling reduces the impact force and can end up preventing permanent brain damage or such severe consequences.

Btw the helmet suppose to break in an accident, that's part of the safe mechanism

Common misconception. F1 helmets are bulletproof, yet safe. Helmets aren't designed to break to absorb impact, unlike F1 cars.

There is zero proof that this helmet maintains head safety compared to the typical kind. If it were possible it would completely change materials science. Cars would not need crumple zones, we could just use whatever the helmet is made out of. If it works. Which it probably does not.

Engineers are not stupid. They just make mistakes, but it's a common mistake to assume if a helmet breaks it's bad mostly because y'all just believe whatever makes you feel smart. These helmets actually take the impact very well. They bend in with enough tension to save you from the impact without destroying itself. That way you never have to buy a new one. The rumor that you'll die by using this helmet is posted by idiot non-engineer commenters that didn't take years in college studying physics.

This is a great helmet, just not the best for riding maybe. Yes I suppose it could protect you from getting impaled where a normal helmet wouldn’t. But the far more likely accident is a fall to the ground, and a normal helmet is supposed to deform and crack to absorb some forces of the impact.

It's a hardhat type helmet, not a riding helmet. It's designed to protect your head from falling objects, and to keep pointy things like that rebar from going through your skull. This is actually a really good helmet for that purpose. Everyone is so quick to show how smart they are and how the guy in the video doesn't understand physics, but not a single person actually stopped to question why he would be demonstrating a helmet that doesn't break on impact and do a minute of research.

Helmets are supposed to crack so your head doesn't. The indestructible helmet will simply transfer the impact to the skull inside it, rather than absorbing and dampening the impact.

For all of you who have been in a motorcycle accident and didn’t have a helmet on, my sympathies. I was in an accident with a good helmet at 46 mph, the helmet was grounded down to the padding. Without that helmet I would have died! Always get the best that you can afford.

The shell of a helmet should not shatter because the forces are absorbed by the foam inside. If the shell shatters, there's nothing holding the foam against your head.
