There was one of these waiting for me under the tree on xmas morning. I'm a complete neophyte when it comes to making music, but now I've got more hardware and software capability than I'll be able to realistically utilize in the near to medium future. I'm really excited to learn. Thanks for the simple overview of the functions.

Hi Taetro, First of all, thanks for your vids. I already wrote this in your comparison vid- But what would you recommend for me? Between the Mini MK3 or Minilab mk2 from Arturia? I am just starting and got my Ableton Live Lite. I have a background with piano and guitar, but I wanted to mainly make some lofi beats and sessions. At home, I have an ePiano with Midi capabilities. The only two things I want the Minilab is because Analog Lab and because I also love how it looks. But I am just watching vids here and I see or it seems that the Launchkey would be a much better fit... I can imagine sometimes going out and trying to make something on the go... I haven't seen the Arturia I know its bigger, but tbh it would be a breakdealer for me... I would really appreciate your opinion! :)

I went with the Akai MPK mini MK2 over the launchkey mostly due to the lack of a repeat function key for doing drum rolls. However, I would have preferred an actual midi out like the Launchkey. Is there anyway to reprogram the launchkey to add a repeat button feature like the Akai has?

I just got the Mini MKIII today on Amazon, and I chose it over most of the other controllers, "mini" or otherwise, in this price range because it has twice the pads and knobs, making it a clear winner in my book. I was torn between the full size keys on the Alesis V25 and the extra pads from the LaunchKey mini MKIII, but the pads won out in the end. I'm not an avid keyboard player─I just tinker and dabble for the sake of getting a good arpeggio or synth chords laid out, and the pads for playing out a beat or launching a track or clip makes a lot more sense for me. I'll have this beauty of a controller on my doorstep come Monday, an early Christmas present to myself, and I can't wait. I'm replacing my old Axiom 25, which has served me well, but is starting to show its age with pads and keys not triggering properly at times. The mini will look great on my desk with my TR-08, TB-03, and should work well with Reason 10 and FL Studio/Ableton. I'm using a pair of Behringer Truth B2031A's for my monitors, and a ONYX Artist 1-2 audio interface. It's cheap stuff, but honestly, the Truth's are REALLY surprisingly good, well made and thought out, and after a mod to remove the grill over the tweeters, sound nice and flat compared to the KRK Rokit 8's I had before. The Rokit's were good for vocals, but that's about it.

what about the mini vs the Novation Launchkey 25? Both are on special from my local store and I'm not sure which I should get. It would be for live performance using Ableton Live. Does the smaller size of the mini make it worth it, or does the 25's larger size not matter because it has more features or whatever? Before I saw the sale I was going to buy the Akai APC40 MkII and at some point a tiny simple keyboard. I sort of feel I would still like the Akai APC40 MkII, but maybe have one of these Novation keyboards also. Would that work well?

@@benouaafrika6609 Hello Ben. Well there's absolutely nothing wrong with M32. Amazing keys & key bed, really love the fact that it is slightly more than 2 octaves and instant integration with the Native Instruments ecosystem. If your world is based on Kontakt libraries and/or Maschine then you should definitely get this portable monster. It is really handy and complimentary. As for me, although I love my Kontakt libraries I've come to realize that I spend more time in Ableton, tweaking and exploring rather than building within NI stuff. An upgrade from my Launchkey Mini MK2 to MK3 with the built in arpeggiator, fixed chord functionality & touch strips is the more feasible option. It just depends on personal preference and workflow, really. Peace.

My 13 year old nephew likes to play the piano and make music. Is this something he can use/play creatively alone, or is it best used along with other musical units?

I use the pads fairly often to capture ideas and d'like to avoid using my mouse in the creative process to get the played notes straight if required. Is there a quantize function on this device too? Thanks.

Daws like Ableton Live have record quantization - this keyboard doesn’t have a quantize button. Ultimately practicing rhythm and getting better at playing is the best quantization

Throw garbage at the wall and see what sticks haha. I pulled my Mini Mk2 out after it was sitting around for 2 years and finally did something with it. I just want them to make a big Launchkey Mk3!! I don't really want the SL Mk3 because it has a lot of bloat/extra features I don't want

@@Ferrichrome You can use a akai mpk 25. Great big keys, 8 rgb pads with 4 banks, 8 endless rotary knobs with 3 banks, usb and DIN midi, arp. and display. Feels and looks great!

Zee Chris I’ll ask the same.. i would risk saying the Akai APC 25 keys is a good Ableton-ready mini keyboard..with all those clip-launch pads. Do you find this new Novation to being better? I would also risk saying you use the Roli Block quite often..

For someone with 0 experience, which would u recommend between the Arturia minilab MKII or Novation launchkey mini mk2? I’ve heard that the knobs on Arturia aren’t that accurate. But a lot of other positives.

w0tap if you don't need Arturia plugins and Ableton integration is your biggest concern, get the Launchkey.
