    I have a torn ACL and I have tried several knee braces now to find a pair I feel good with. I've tried Pod K4, Mobius X8, Alpinestars Fluid pro and the Asterisk Ultra cell. The Mobius just were to bulky for me. Since I have kind of big legs they just didn't feel good. I almost couldn't get my pants on with them. Unfortunately the Pod K4 didn't fit me so well. The M/L didn't really wrap around my knee, they didn't line up with the side of my knees. And with the larger size XL/XXL they lined up better but didn't snug around my knee enough to feel secure, even with the extra pads they come with. I tried the K8 (which has more sizing options) aswell, but without any better results. The Alpinestars Fluid pro actually was really comfortable and as Chase mention really low profile. The reason I did not keep them was that I felt that they were to flimsy compared to all the other braces I tried. They just didn't feel safe enough. I have not tried the carbon version of it though, maybe those are more rigid. Asterisk is the brace that I've kept and use now. Those are the ones I felt most safe using. They feel really strong and stable and fits me well. The downside with them is that they feel kind of heavy. I have the "Ultra cell" version with the "boa system" straps. I would consider the simpler version "Cell" due to get the brace more low profile. Since I have big calves I have some problem to fit the braces underneath my boots (tech 7 fyi), but it is acceptable. The strap design with "Ultra cell" is really handy and simple to use though. Just wanted to share my experience. And again, I have kind of big legs and big calves. So the issues I had maybe won't apply to you.

    That is really good feedback. Thank you for sharing that. I just told someone about the Astars and how they felt a little "flimsy" compared to other braces. I'm sure a lot of people will find this helpful. I've been using the new K8 for a while now and I've actually been really happy with them, but like you said, everyone is different on fit and sizing. Glad you found the Asterisk and a brace you're happy with. Have fun out there!-Chase

    I also found that the k8 hinge sits too far forward on my knee. The brace/hinge itself just sits barely past my knee cap, my old troy lee braces had a 5th strap that allowed for adjustment of I guess what you would call the depth of the brace, or how far it fits over your knee which I really liked. I may have to try the asterisks

    I broke a Cti2 and limped away with a slight tear in my meniscus! I went hard into a deep rutted corner and got my foot jambed into another rut which started pulling me off the back of the bike and twisting the throttle. It looped out on top of my leg and broke the brace. Imagine what my knee would have looked like without one on. Worth every penny my insurance paid for them, and Cti repaired the brace for free! Can`t beat that!

I was wearing mobius x8’s I loved they way they fit and how easy they are to get on and stay in the right place, but there’s no lock out or stop, wish I would have known that I would way rather spend the money on protection then spending the next 6-9 months in surgery and PT.

    Been using Alpinestars Fluid pro and wow they are comfortable when they are dialed in, feather light and barely noticeable, very slim design, but like i read from another comment they feel a bit flimsy, kind of a knee guard feeling to them less af a rigid brace. I will be replacing the A-stars in 6-12 months hopfully after recovery from tibial acl fracture and torn mcl/pcl, surgery in a few days. I love the fluid pro, but since i will be needing more support/rigidness in the future i will go with mobius,cti or asterix.

    I have run the carbon Alpinestars for about 3 years and overall like them. They're light weight and low profile. I've only had two issues with them. One the carbon cracked on both knee braces on my first good crash. They were only about 3 months old. I called Alpinestars and asked about a warranty and sent them pictures, they said they don't warranty items that have been in a crash. In my opinion the force wasn't that bad and they shouldn't have cracked. Over time the cracks got worse and eventually completely broke through and other cracks appeared. I would not buy them again for this reason. Also the velcro straps stick to my pant legs went putting my pants on and get bunched up.

    Just a word of caution. The Mobius are fantastic but you'll need to ensure sufficient room in your pant. I'm 5'11", wear a medium in the Mobius and wear Klim Mojave pants. The Mobius is tight in these pants and I have to switch up the pants when wearing the brace. Awesome brace just make sure there's room for it in your chosen pant.

    Hey guys. I ended up buying some Pod K8’s to replace my Asterisk Ultra Cells, but they are going back tomorrow. Why? They were the right size, but the Asterisks just fit my legs better, and therefore stay in place without having to crank on the straps like a gorilla. While having both sets, I was able to compare them directly with one another. The pods are very simple in design, lighter and definitely less bulky than the Asterisks...but not by as much as expected. I was very surprised that the PODs are just as restrictive as the Asterisk. In the end the pods weren’t the brace I was looking for. I find the asterisk are far more technologically developed. The hinge has mechanical lock outs that are adjustable with an Allen key, the strap system has boa, the safety features are plentiful and fitment system is more customisable. I did initially have some issues with rubbing but took another look at the various adjustments in the Asterisks, and managed to get them to conform even better than they ever have and managed to fix the issues. Overall, I’m really stoked with my Asterisk and will definitely buy again once these wear out/break....but based on how well they have help up so far (about 4 years), it seems that day may never come 🙂

    @@rmatvmc Considering the Astars Bionic-7 or Bionic-10 because of the low profile and low weight. However, after reading these reviews I'm wondering if this brace is also going to be less protective like their Fluid Pro. The problem with the Fluid Pro was they tried to make 2 sizes S-L and XL/2XL. I'm between a small and medium and the S-L wasn't even close to fitting. So would you say the only difference between the Bionics are fitment or have they improved the protection as well. I'm assuming you may have had a preview of the brace since they are due out any day per Astars email to me when I asked when to expect them. Thank you - Scott

Good braces are expensive and you definitely don’t want them ruined by rocks and debris not to mention the brace getting hooked up on something and taking your leg off. Put simply they are made to fit as close to the skin as possible to offer the most protection. How about next time you do a little research before you go making stupid, uneducated responses to people’s legitimate comments.

    @Ray Man ^ that. Also, the macho "I'm not trying to win a fashion show" comments are getting really old. I just don't believe anyone who says that. I think anyone who says that is just projecting how they wish they felt. Even the stereotypical dad in baggy Costco jeans and New Balance shoes cares about their appearance to some extent. No one wants to look ridiculous and be the subject of mockery.

  • @rmatvmc

    @rmatvmc

    No, you don't HAVE to wear them. Many riders just prefer the added support and protection for the knee. There are plenty of knee guards that offer good impact protection, but as for support and protection against hyper extension and side to side, knee brace is the best option.-Chase

    @@zerzxim6915 yes. If I could go back in time I would purchase the braces before the bike. I fell off at 20mph once. Blew both my knees out. Then again I'm one of those idiots who naturally try to land on their feet. If you're more of a slider you might be alright without. If you can afford it, it's foolish not to get them.

    At 40 I went down low side at a fairly low speed. Tore the MCL and ACL a little. MCL healed but ACL I just have to live with. After 6 months I am 90% healed. Can’t say a brace is a sure fire fix but I will get some before riding again.

Just crazy. Sadly i most likely will still buya pair but not sure which. May see what a doctor can do for me
