So we have a bad mosquito problem this year, nothing seems to work. We decided to try the Flowtron BK-15D 1/2 acre big zapper. Check out my review! It's a great buy and it will save you money diy from calling pest control. I have 1.5 acres of land and decided to purchase the 1/2 acre option to see how it performed, it kills hundreds of mosquitoes per night, I highly recommend this bug zapper as part of your mosquito extermination strategy. If you have any questions please let me know. Enjoy!

@@coolelectronics1759It is basically the same, but if you have a bigger yard, the BK-40D will be better because it has a brighter light to draw them. I plugged mine in for the first time last night and it was amazing. Some hours later there were between several hundred and several thousand mosquitos on the ground.

I have a big backyard and a bad mosquito problem. I got a BK-40D and plugged it in for the first time last night. Once nightfall set in, I saw that there was a cloud of mosquitos surrounding it. We heard it going off on a constant basis. We were finally able to sit on the back porch without getting chewed up. The number of mosquitoes it got ranged somewhere between several hundred and several thousand. This thing is amazing!

How I solved the "Large aperture" grill openings which endangered lizards, frogs and beneficial bees was a no-brainer for me. I purchased a $4.00+ "disposable grill topper" (aluminum for the BBQ grills), took one and with a scissors, cut a swatch of one to go around the grill (and a leftover piece at the rear) and tied them with 6 inch zip ties at three places on each side through the existing bug zapper, cutting off the excess. That way there's 1/4 - 3/8 opening holes throughout to allow my "pet flies and mosquitos" to get in and they don't check out.

I bought one of those until I grew up and decided to really let them ride the lightning. Bought a 2 acre vintage flotron and I put a metal garbage can lid under it. I get thousands a night now. After a week it slows down but still extremely effective. My yard is 3/4 acre and I run it from 9pm to 7am on a timer. The little one like yours is put out by the front porch. It does ok out there.

not sure if I posted here but I have one of the originals and its like 40 years old and other than a new bulb after 20 years and taking the top off to clean it of dead stuff and spary some WD40 in there it still out there working. I added the octenol attractant thing on the bottom now too, with eit in with some trist ties the tape lets go in wet conditions, but it works without it as well. The trick with these zappers is to mount them low like 4 feet off the ground and have them on a timer going on each night around 3 to 4 pm and off around midnight. Also they are a bit bright so make sure they are not next to a neighbor or block the light on their side with some cardboard. The other trick is that dead bugs attract dead bugs so once there is a buildup of dead things on the electric grid it works even better. As far as where they should be placed, I have mine away from where I hang out, about 20 feet away. I also add a fly and nat catcher, which is a fan blown ultraviolet LED sucker thing you add soapy water to a pan below the fan, That catches an amazing amount of nats. Again the more dead things in the bottom the better it seems to work. The nat things have a switch on top so cover it with water resistant tape to keep water out of the electronics of these things.

We had a mild winter, so none of the bugs froze over the past several months, so now they are all coming out. I bought a flowtron also, but not like that one. I have to brush it off every morning. I also turn it off in the morning since the seem to only come out when the sun is down. So its plugged into a smart plug. Also, in order to get moths and the bigger dragon flies, I trimmed the plastic shield around the zapper so they would land on the metal and not on the plastic. So the plastic mesh is gone, and only the vertical pieces to keep it together are there now. And I started getting way more after that. The only complaint I have about mine is that the voltage seems too low. Instead of just an instant zap and fall to the ground, they sit on the wiring and slowly burn, then stick over night. The one we had as a kid would send 120 volts to them and then fall to the ground instantly.

This might seem like a dumb question, but does it actually make being outside better? Meaning, is it just killing bugs but they’re still biting you if they haven’t been zapped yet? I want to get one so my kids can play outside in the evening without slathering them in bug spray. Does it eliminate that need?

  • @TheComebackKid

Hi Kaylee. I understand your question, its a good question. I would tell you first hand that prior to me buying my flowtron bug zapper, it was basically impossible for me to go outside and enjoy my backyard during the summer due to the amount of mosquitoes in my backyard. My flowtron bug zapper significantly improved my situation by killing MANY of the mosquitoes but, not ALL of the mosquitoes. I cannot recommend the flowtron bug zapper enough. Prior to buying it, I was basically trapped in my house during the summer, it dramatically reduces the number of mosquitoes in my backyard. Thanks for watching!

They make another mosquito trap that uses a combination of propane to replicate body heat, octenol for sweat, and LED lights to replicate movement. It uses two methods to kill. One being a fan that draws them in, and if that doesnt get them, a striped-sticky paper gets them, which replicates stripes on an animal.

They came from some plants on bought on line in gallon pots.. & they get in the house too. Right now none in the house. I need to get a few of these BK15D & place them outside now if they work on zapping gnats. Gnats bite like mosquitos, & move quickly. I got 40 gnat bites on my back while working shirtless in my yard last summer. And my cat got conjunctivitis (pink eye) from a gnat.

I just got the 1 acre model and have had it out for a few nights. Basically it zaps alot of bugs and its hard to tell if the mosquitos are going to it. I still have a ton of mosquitos in the yard. I did see one fly up into it from the bottom and get zapped. But if youre standing by it the mosquitos will go to you. Theyre much more attracted to CO2 from your breath than the attractant. So mines been zapping gnats, june bugs moths, may flies and im sure some mosquitos. But it definitely hasnt eradicated the mosquito problem here. I have another one coming thats supposed to emmit co2 and it has a fan that sucks them into a basket. We'll see how it does.

PJ Guz Its a Dynatrap half acre model in the front. Supposed to leave that running 24/7 so i have. It has a pile of bugs in it after a week but i havent emptied it. I stood by the flowtron on evening at dusk and it was getting swarmed by mosquitos so the zapper is killing alot of them. Some of them are cautious and dont get in it right away. But usually they make their way towards the heat source and get zapped.

The zapper is easier to clean. They mainly fall out of it. If you run out of attractant ive found you can wipe your own sweat with a paper towel and stick it in the grate. It will draw them in. Youll see dead ones fried on it in the morning. They both work.
