"I am not the villian of this story." Technically he's right. Everyone, if not most people thought Dr. Hayden would be the villian in Doom Eternal. Instead we got Hayden going "Don't do the thing" to Doom Slayer and then Doom Slayer proceeding to do said thing. I love it.

@@InnsannaStories In a way, I think the Doom Slayer is at fault for how badly the invasion effected Earth. Perhaps if he didn't destroy their main energy source, they may have resisted the invasion a bit better. But he seems to have no real tact or much forward thinking at all other than "Destroy this thing" because it solves his immediate short term issue in a very brutally simple way, but at great cost in the long run.

I love the dynamic that these two characters have. They are both equally terrifying, but in completely different ways. One is rage fueled and will destroy anything and everything that gets in his way. The other is calm, non violent, but he is an intelligent mastermind. It always seems like there's something more to him, like there's a long sinister history that he's hiding. Plus, his size and voice makes him something that you don't want to piss off

When he first approached the reactor, he pushed on what he thought might be a lever, he swiped down on what he thought might be a touch-pad switch thing, and he grabbed the bottom gently to try and twist it off. After those three safe attempts failed, and realizing that he had no idea how to deactivate it properly, he just said "screw this" and stomped on it till it quit working. He went straight to the "break it" option on the second one, but you can see him hesitate before committing to the curb-stomp.

The amount of character work they put into Doomguy in this is pretty epic considering all you have to go on is his hands and his head movements. The moments when he smashes monitors because he's 100% done with Hayden's bullshit, or when he hesitates to destroy VEGA, or when he looks disbelievingly at the corpse in the elevator at the start of the game all give him far more personality than he had before.

⁠@@sharpcheddar7842I genuinely love this explanation. Doomguy literally grew up in medieval times and has been asleep for 1000s of years probably, so of course he’s unfamiliar with the technology. It was a miracle he answered Hayden’s call at the beginning of the game with the touch screen. But Doomguy considering a proper procedure at first is some great characterisation. Maybe he just wanted to minimise the chance of it blowing up unexpectedly or maybe he wanted to save the ripping and tearing for the demons, who knows?

Hayden is cool and all But did you know the longer the icon of sin is on earth the stronger it will become

2:29 "You have no idea what you’ve just done.” The horror in his voice now makes much more sense now that Doom Eternal released. For those who don’t know, Earth was already being invaded by demons in Doom 2016, so the UAC NEEDED Argent energy to fight back against the demons. They have no more energy (or no more in reserves at least) once he destroys all 3 filters. The Doom Slayer is indirectly responsible for all the people the demons killed, or most of them anyways.

I Honestly think he could. Pretty sure he had his new body built with combat in mind. He may not have equal combat power but I’m certain he’s a veteran strategist you can tell he’s been through countless battles even when he met the doomslayer he wasn’t faced. As a matter of fact, judging by the 2016 ending I don’t think he considers doomslayer too big of a threat.

@@jeremybk54 obviously he'll not attack Hayden. In a world consumed by daemonic worshipping madness, samuel is kinda adequate man, and if he rewoke the slayer, things again gone pretty scary.

Not shown, but as most people know I'm sure, the part 1:00 in, you can shoot him and he'll tell you to "save your ammunition". Yeah, he's a great character. What I love is that he's very intimidating and sinister sounding with the guttural voice he has, and yet there's Doom Slayer who is even more intimidating and unfearing. It's an interesting dynamic and not something you often see.

Samuel Hayden is probably one of the few dudes badass enough to mess around with the doomslayer. Most characters cower in fear when he shows up, yet samuel hayden remains calm and collected, even when antagonizing. What's even more interesting is that, if the doomslayer really wanted to, he could easily tear Samuel in half. Samuel knows that the doomslayer is stronger than him, so he obviously wont directly challenge him, but that doesn't mean that he'll take shit from him either. Samuel stands up to the doomslayer, and surprisingly survives. As you said, it's an interesting dynamic.

It wasn't even damaged at all, the plug was destroyed but not the filter itself. The way the slayer throws it and it just bounces off the floor also proves it isn't that fragile.

Heaven is portrayed by Urdak, the home of the Khan Makyr. The Makyrs made a deal with Hell. Urdak would receive an unlimited amount of argent energy to keep them alive, in return, hell would be given more worlds to consume. Which is how the Argent D’Nur become consumed by the demons.

That cutscene makes way more sense now after playing the doom eternal dlc.

"Destroying the production of Ardent Energy isn't necessary..." I love the calmness yet pissed off vibe you get, especially knowing he doesn't want the Slayer as his enemy, he treads carefully.

Sam maybe be that one person who ignores how dangerous the Doomslayer is and throws him around like a toy... ...like the masternind he is..

I know this video is about Samuel Hayden, but after playing this game religiously I love the little details in the movements of the Doomslayer to show a bit of his personality without him actually speaking. At 2:00 while Hayden is explaining the consequences of the Doomslayers actions you can see that Doomslayer is at pause. The way I see it he is taking Hayden's words into consideration, since the energy crisis for humanity is an enormous issue, but then he looks up at the Hell Portal and you see him refocus on his original judgement. It's nice to see that there is more to the Doomslayer than just a mindless rage machine and Hayden's interactions with him definitely help.

Samuel is the best villain. He's not even a villain, just that two good guys: Sam and Slayer have different intentions.

Hayden: *literally became a cyborg to get his research done* Slayer: *Destroys research* Hayden: “I wish my head wasn’t bulletproof...”

I loved the twist of VEGA being The Father, but I wish they kept Samuel Hayden as just Samuel Hayden and not the Seraphim. I wouldn't mind him knowing about VEGA being god. Heck, they could have even done an awesome twist where Hayden purposely erased GOD'S MEMORIES and made him an all-knowing, servient AI for the 'good of humanity.'

Olivia opened hell portal, doomguy destroyed years of his research but still he is somewhat clam, I like this character for some reason

Brother Sgt. Grau Wolff I don’t think he had nefarious intentions. He wanted to help mankind however his actions only led to devastation but in a way he helped save us by releasing the Doomslayer he knew that even if he failed the Slayer would not so in a way he ensured a sliver of hope for humanity

Eternal kinda ruined Hayden for me. His backstory about beating brain cancer and becoming better through tech made him a neat character for 'Team Human' and they just pull the rug under all that for a cheap "it was planned all along" moment.

As much as I loved most of Doom Eternal's story, the whole "Samuel Hayden is a seraphim" thing really feels like a stretch.

I was wondering why his voice sounded so intimidatingly familiar. The dude (Darin De Paul) played Alpha from that Netflix show 3Below (It's a relatively mediocre show, doesn't hold up to TrollHunters, but Alpha is a scary mofo) and apparently also Duma from Fire Emblem Echoes. (Also I know he's Reinhardt, but I don't really like Overwatch). Damn, what a great choice for an actor.

Both of them are correct, absolutely everything in that world is powered by Hell, they have run out of oil, trees if it wasn't for this energy they would have gone extinct anyway, I think Doom Slayer is going to kill Hayden in his anger thus destroying the last hope of humanity they are the same side of the coin, if only they could leave each other alone they would be a perfect duo team.

Damn I liked Hayden more as a sinister badass robot lol. I liked the idea that Hayden is just this insanely smart and sinister human that always had humanity's interest in the forefront of his mind despite his questionable methods. And using his gifted smart he made a robot body to transfer his consciousness to that could give the Slayer a run for his money.

yeah, I find it rather hard to care about Samur because the entire Samuel identity was a lie. the cunning morally-bankrupt mastermind who mined hell for it's resources and played you like a fiddle for the entire game for "the good of mankind" is gone and now we just have some angel dude who wants to resurrect The Father. I have a connection to Samuel Hayden, he's one of the best characters in gaming imo, but Samur just ruined everything for me. Also HE LITERALLY HAS A PORTRAIT OF HIMSELF PRIOR TO PUTTING HIS BRAIN IN THE ROBOT BODY. THIS LITERALLY MAKES NO SENSE DOOM ETERNAL????? HOW DO YOU EXPLAIN THAT HUH?????

This is why I can't swallow Hayden as the Seraphim. He seems so single-minded. It's all about his energy business to him.
