    Here is what I’ve learned in a couple days of watching KZread videos on the 5 $100 or so boom arms. 1.) The Blue Yeti one is trash, even for the Blue Yeti mic. It has some sort of super spring that makes it bounce way up you have to lock it into place. Might as well get a mic stand. That version is also mass produced and I’ve seen it with about 10 different peoples names on it but it’s the same model. GameStop has a logitech version. 2.) The gator frameworks is a little bit better than the blue, but it doesn’t have full 360 rotation, and again you really have to lock it in place at certain angles. The main downside is also the mount and how the weight is supported off the desk instead of over it for support. Other videos say you have to constantly adjust and retighten the stand. 3.) Rode PSA1 and the + version. I guess these are the best ones. I don’t like the version because it has that giant logo. I originally thought it was a light metal or hard plastic cover but then discovered it was neoprene. 4.) Elgato I thought was perfect. Except for that horrible magnetic cover that pops off every time you move the microphone. How did that get by R&D!? It’s like they never actually tested it with a microphone cord. I guess there is really no perfect microphone boom arm.

    @@jaime5649 I actually got the Elgato LP. The tall one was impossible to find and they didn't even know when more were available. But after watching even more videos, I think I ended up liking the LP better. Plus I found a guy on Ebay/Etsy who 3D printed the exact Y part I couldn't find to hold my Blue Yeti by the sides instead of locked in from the bottom. The cord issue can be resolved, especially for me because I'm going to start with a usb mic, by electrical taping (I'd recommend Gorilla Glue) the cord to the bottom of the compartment, only leaving enough slack out the last mic side end so when you twist the mic, the cord doesn't pop the lid off... not that it would after being secured by tape. The Elgato by FAR looks the cleanest and functions the best, PLUS the desk mount is like industrial grade!

    @@BudsCartoon I have a Shure SM7B and went with the gator frameworks one. Most of the negative reviews were over critical and having to do with things that were within control. I don't need anything crazy I just want a mic stand where my SM7B isn't going to sag. I love the look of the elgato LP, maybe if things don't go well with the gator i'll try that one out :)

    Best thing to do with the Rode PSA1 for cable management: unsolder one of the XLR ends on your mic cable and run it THROUGH the arm.. Then re-solder the connector once in place. You can actually see how it was designed for this purpose. The cable will even route through the base clamp. Thanks for the video

  • @GrischaEkart
    @GrischaEkart Жыл бұрын

    I have never seen anyone using the PSA-1 "correctly". There is a protrusion / hole in the upper part of the arm. You can pull the cable through that hole to completely hide it inside the arm. Best looks, best usability. OK, you need to solder one of the XLR plugs after installing the cable. It is worth it!

    I cannot agree on the "any microphone" with the RODE PSA1. I got myself the Shure Beta 58A at 279g of weight to replace my RODE Procaster and its just too lightweight for the lifting capabilities of the PSA1. But granted, this Video is interested only in the Shure SM7B anyways. And with that microphone, many arms can end up struggling.

    I have the Neewer arm, and it's definitely not up to the job of the SM 7B. BUT because I have my arm mounted on a shelf above my monitors, the fact that it can bend 90 degrees on the first joint (where it inserts into the mount) is important. It kind of looks like the Gator and the Blue Compass wouldn't be able to do that. Will the Rode bend to 90 degrees at the lfirst joint?
