I’ve used Ruggables now for seven or so years. The Velcro pad wears out allowing children and pets to easily rolls or shift rug. The water proof barrier also brakes down over time from washing and wear. I’ve replaced my rugs multiple times swapping out tops. The padded base is nicer than the original but not worth the extra money. I purchased interlocking tumble or work out pads to place underneath in my sons room and going to do that tin my living room as well. I have two cats and two dogs and a special needs adult son who crawls and is incontinent so they are washed about once a month due to accidents, lots of wear. I did not know tumble until recently so may invest in one of their rugs. IN accident prone areas I use smaller 3x5 ruggables over the larger Ruggable that’s an 8x10 for ease of cleaning in my son’s room. Makes it easy to swap out the topper multiple times a week for washing. They have taken a lot of wear for sure. I also have several runners that have held up well. My Ruggable in the living room has been replaced four times in seven years. The padded back I’ve had for three years has lost its Velcro ability and the pad is starting to fall apart in high traffic areas. Not sure if I will be purchasing another. I may just try to put the Ruggable on a store bought interlocking pads moving forward. I’m happy over all with them considering the wear and tear they get. Just. Not sure if I will purchase anymore moving forward. For the price perhaps I’ll give Tumble a try. Sorry to ramble but I’m hoping this information is helpful.

I’m so glad you found it helpful! Tumble includes corner rug grippers with the rug to help keep it in place and they work really well. The rug fits tightly over the pad, so it doesn’t fold much. I don’t have any trouble at all with my runners. I have noticed with the one under my dining table (8x10) that it can get a little wrinkled with the chairs being moved in and out frequently so that is a downside vs it being Velcroed down on Ruggable’s.

Thanks for the review. There’s an Australian brand called Protectme that has a spray you can put on fabrics, and it seems like it’s the same thing is that’s on Tumble rugs to begin with - liquids sit on top. Thought this might be helpful as a way to keep the rug spill-proof after a few washes. I’m looking at buying a Tumble rug. I’ve heard they can be tricky to vacuum since the rug itself is so thin and not attached to the rug pad in the same way the Ruggable one is. I also wonder if it slides around or you trip on the edges - I’m worried my dog will trip on it when she’s doing zoomies! Thanks heaps.

Thanks for your review . I just got my first Ruggable rug and am very happy so far. Then I watched your video and your overall summary that Tumble is your preferred choice. Your Point 1: affordable… yes, for sure… but I saw that your Tumble rug had lots of wrinkles in it while your Ruggable rug did not. For me, this is a big reason to pay a bit more. Also, Ruggable does offer an option on its website to select just the rug if you already have the underpad. Your Point 2: the spillproof feature - my take on this is that, first off, the ‘hand feel’ of the Tumble Rug is not as soft, is perhaps stiffer; and second, the spillproof coating doesn’t last forever. My other take on this is that the Tumble rug is less permeable, and water does not pass through as well, which could have a negative impact while cleaning in the washing machine. (I can’t see how a washing machine could clean it as well if water doesn’t easily pass through.)

Good to know, thank you! I don’t love the Velcro base either because it’s a pain to get the rug to roll out just right.
Not breaking news, you can also order a Ruggable without the pad if you opt to change your rug at some point. There is no obligation to buy another underpad.

True! Thanks!
I have owned ruggables for at least 6 years. I want to be clear that they roll at the sides AND edges over time and do not continue to ‘stick’ to the black under rug. This unfortunately makes them look cheap and is frankly irritating as it has occurred to all 5 of them over time

That is frustrating, thank you for sharing your experience!

Have you tried rug tape? I’m curious if that would work.
