Reliability has no factor on a BRAND NEW CAR. You can guess at the reliability, but you won't know for sure. I wouldn't expect a editorial choice to made by a guess.

Reliability starts from day one. It has everything to do with statistical probability that a certain model is prone to issues.

The Lexus will last yr’s longer than a BMW. For the price these cars should stand the rest of time without all the mechanics fees.
I know it’s been a while, but just wanted to say what huge loss Carlos is to Motor Trend. I am extremely glad to see him do tremendously well with Edmunds. Always knew Carlos was destined for great things, terrific journalist.
Love my Hybrid MDX. Infotainment is 2014 but i can look past that with Android Auto

I feel the same way about the Lincoln Corsair because I think that it can turn out to be a better value than the X3 or even Acura RDX
Where is the reliability factor?
Did BMW ever fix the X1's horrible autonomous braking performance? The results I've seen for it were a major problem for someone who is looking for the active safety features.

New Q3 is much nicer than the X1 and the X3 is really a great compact SUV. X5 is another great choice for a midsize SUV. Not sure what you see in the X1, it’s interior is very mediocre and it’s priced way too close to the much better X3.

I just can't understand why these so called auto experts fail in the most important aspect of a car review, and that is the cost of ownership, reliability and maintenance cost in the first five years/50,000 miles. If they did that, they would eliminate Mecedes and BMW from all their reviews as they cost more to maintain and fix than the cost of buying them.

Something maybe not mentioned here is the person buying these subcompact SUV vehicles might not be looking for lower price or Entry level status but rather a higher quality smaller suv that is easier to fit and park in today’s world along with better fuel economy. The wife and I are 50+ and don’t need a family suburban but want sport,style and AWD. Not looking for cheap rather downsized quality.

I don't know if these have the same wade sensing and (insert smart car guy word for off roading feature) that Land Rover offers. Why do you think they suck? I like the look of the XC-40 Than the X-1 but as you said the driving dynamics belongs to the X-1 for the compact SUV/ Crossover. Yes, I like the GLC. All Acura interior isn't nice at all it doesn't look luxury to me.

I would prefer the Jaguar E Pace over the XC40. More power, amazing driving dynamics and better warranty.

Seriously, the X1? Maintenance nightmare. Volvo? You can only get them serviced at a volvo dealership so hope you have one close by! Clubman? Another Beemer stepchild, not impressive with automatic transmission. The GLC? well, maybe it is one of the better Mercedes models. Acura RDX...oh yeah! Audi....bye Felecia! These two yo-yo's passed up Cadillac XT5 and Lincoln MKC, both got high rating from JD Powers survey.
I drive up and down California quite a bit, would I trust a MB? Fuck no! Guaranteed to be stranded on the side of the road in the middle of nowhere someday. Lexus all the way.

These vehicles are money pits. You are better off Buying Lexus RX,LR or Ford Explorer or Expedition.

These guys ratings lean towards cars you should lease. They are paid by those German companies whose cars you can buy in buy here pay here lots after 2 years. Remember never ever buy German cars, they breakdown, are too expensive to fix. Only lease and then turnover to German junk engineered company after lease period is over. And no Navigator didn’t introduce new Lincoln design language, it was Continental. At least Largo Cargos is a car guy (not SUV guy). When I'm spending $70k on a Mercedes I was shocked to see that clattering 4 cylinder turbo. To get a 6 cylinder Mercedes you gotta spend $80k. What a freaking ripoff.
I will not buy a car without android auto as a daily driver. So passing on BMW till they get there heads out there ass.

At 2:25, this is the sort of thing that made me step away from buying BMWs 20 years ago. The arrogance and rapacious behavior that would make a "luxury" auto company in 2019/2020 decide that they weren't going to support half of the smartphone market and charge the other half a subscription is just phenomenal.
