For anyone sharing your frustration with accidentally manipulating the wheel while shooting, you can long press FN on the back of the camera to lock the wheel - and then long press FN again to unlock it. A really nice way to prevent this from happening and it quickly becomes second nature I think.

Fernando Pinales I am sorry but I don't have the A6000, so I can't give you a factual answer. but seeing that it works on the A6300 and A6500 I would think it works on the A6000 as well.

Cycling Dropout exactly. The Sigma 30mm is rated as one of the sharpest lenses for the Sony and that 50mm is just as good in the tests and reviews I have done and seen. Plus the cheaper 50mm have oss. I have the A6500 and the IBIS is a welcome feature but it doesn't replace IS in glass.

I had the 55mm 1.8 for my a6300 and LOVED it... I am on a budget so I wanted to get something that shot wider shots... As much as I loved that lens I probably wont go full frame until next year or so... So I traded it out for the 24mm 1.8 and im glad to see you guys love it too!

Jerry... love your videos... I almost have the exact same setup, but with the a6300. Sony 10-18, Sony 24 1.8, and the Sony 55 1.8. I also have the 30mm macro and the 55-210mm. You have to get the 24 1.8. I didn't start liking the Sony a6xxx series of cameras until I got the 24mm. I'm going to sell my 30mm because the 24 1.8 focuses so close, although not 1:1. Keep up the great work.

Great job on the your video - helped me out a lot. I do have a question, based on your advice I did purchase the Sony 10-18 lens for my A6500, and I was set on also getting the Zeiss 55mm based on your review. However, I did noticed in the comments you spoke very highly of the Zeiss 16-70. I am new to the world of Sony cameras so was wanting to know, since I already have the 10-18, would you still go for the 55mm as the next lens or is the 16-70 a better choice? What concerns me about the 16-70 is some of the reviews I have read say that it is not that great in terms of sharpness. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Keep up the great work!

im planning on buy (probably) the 6500 if budget allows but i would have to get a lens for using it thats allround (more video than photo). i was seeing the 55-210mm with OSS or 50mm f1.4. what would be a good all rounder from those two?. In worst case scenario i would have to go with the a6300 with the kit lenses even i will have issues with overheating (tropical zone from 82 to 92f [28-32c) at least]

I really can't figure out what wide angle lenses are good for the Sony A6300 with IS, AF, a low F stop and preferably on the cheaper side and not too heavy. Everything seems to be missing either AF, or have a high F stop. I don't even mind adapting a Canon lens for it as long as the communication works.

i have the a6500 and i love it! my 3 lens currently are the sony 10-18, sony 18-105, and the sigma 30mm 1.4, i can cover almost any range and get a good portrait with decent bokeh with the sigma. i feel like a 50mm on an aps-c is too tight. although renders beautiful bokeh. i think the 30mm which is a 50mm equivalent is much more useful. none the less thanks for the video! very useful content keep it up!!

Also have the a6500 with the 10-18mm, but the distortion is really annoying. I don't think it's possible to make it as an all purpose lens. Do you film videos that aren't vlogs with it? or shoot stills? I'm debating which one to get for filming and stills without having the fish eye effect.

But doesn't the Zeiss 55 FFm , really only give a portrait equivalent of appx 82mm in 35 mm format? Not all that useful for all but close up portrait shots. And if the Zeiss is manual focus, I can handle that for most shots, but really want auto focus on portrait subjects eyes, nose etc if using as a portrait lens. Apart from portraits, what else would you use this lens for?

For vlogging, it's ok for getting some cheaper lenses, they will not destroy image quality that much. As long as getting a steady shot, enough lighting, clear voice and stay focus. Since we are watching it on a small screen ( who watch youtube every day on a 50" or bigger 4K TV?)...Many vloggers make very high-quality videos just using a compact camera (pocket camera). But for photographing, this sony 10-18 mm lens is too old, it's not sharp enough compare to those newer lenses. It's more worth to get the newer lens, 16-70, or 16-35 if you want to upgrade to a full-frame camera after. Even 19mm prime lens from Sigma is better. This 10-18 lens has one upside, which is the wide angle, that's it. Sony A6000 series have higher resolution, which worth to get a sharper, better lenses.

you could save $1500 and get the sony 50mm 1.8 and 35mm 1.8 instead of the expensive zeiss lenses.

These two lenses also feature OSS, which means you can get the a6300 instead of the a6500, saving even more money. There are plenty of lenses with OSS like the 18-105mm for example

Mark Rudolph The Sony's 50 1.8 E mount also has optical image stabilization. In addition to that getting the expensive FF lense means you'll be losing quite few F-stpos = 1.8 X 1.5 = 2.7! A waste of money in my opinion unless you're planning on switching to FF later on.

Odu Oba Ara Well said, using ff glass on aps-c also crops the lens's "resolution" I believe, making the image softer. Chromatic aberrations and more are amplified 1.5 times too. There is a reason why there is aps-c glass for aps-c sensors haha

    Indeed! 1.5 x 1.5 = 2.5 24pixels = 24÷2.5 = 9.6 after cropping. Not good at all. Lol

Mark Rudolph I disagree, first of all, the lens quality is the biggest determining factor for perceived resolution then followed by distortion correction. All of the resolution is captured on the sensor after the glass, the glass it's self has no finite resolution nor does anything in the real world. Sony has some really good glass and some really spot on lens distortion correction. The flaws you speak of, I have seen on Nikon and Cannon more than Sony. I used to shoot on Nikon, and using full frame glass on crop sensor could be hit or miss in raw quality. Similar with Cannon. The best solution being to drop the built in resolution of the camera so it crops closer to its center so details are much sharper. This doesn't seem to be the case with Sony nearly as much. I shoot with a FE 50MM 1.8 on my Sony APS-C sensor and the center left to right are tact sharp, better sharpness than my 50mm crop lens built for the sensor. where it gets slightly softer is on the very far frame edges where focal plane distortion is the greatest even than sony's built in lens distortion correction is spot on, and makes that section comparable to the APS-C 50mm 1.8.

Why you not take sigma 16mm 1.4 , sigma 30mm 1.4, and sigma 56mm 1.4, I think these are the best lenses you can buy and last but not least sony 70-200mm f 4.0. These lenses are the top you can buy for sony a6500

In all comparison between, there is almost no difference between 6500 and 6300. All heating issues are fixed with firmware update, same AF points, IBIS doesn't work as it people thought it would. Therefore, I decided to get 6300 and save 500 Euros here in Germany. I can use that money to get sigma lens.

Interesting you said rhis about IBIS on a6500. I bought A6500 recently and I'm really disappointed with IBIS, even though I have lenses that are "stabilised" as well! My phone does better stabilising job then A6500! I have to buy gimbal now to make footage acceptable to watch.

John Nguyen not sure what youre talking about. Go on to Sony's a6500 product page and it clearly says 5-axis stabilization. with lens with oss, its 3axis on body and 2 on lens. otherwise, its FULL 5-axis on body without oss.

I know this sounds mean, but I just don't understand where these kids get all their money from? I'm 61 years old and have just about found the £750 it takes to buy an A6300...This is several thousand dollars of equipment, what about your mortgage, your utility bills, your travel to work...not to mention bringing up your own kids? Are you actually a much sought after professional fashion photographer? An executive in corporate finance? Came into a sizeable inheritance? Or are you living with your mum and dad and spending all your pocket money on photographic equipment? I'm stumped...
