Best left-hand position for violin I A lesson with Professor Rodney Friend and Hiroki Kasai

Improve your left hand violin fast | New practice method by Prof. Rodney Friend
Prof. Rodney Friend has been acclaimed internationally as one of the most distinguished British violinists of his generation. Throughout his long career, he has appeared worldwide as a soloist, chamber musician, concertmaster, director and pedagogue. During his encounters with the world's famous virtuosi, such as Heifetz, Oistrakh, Stern, Menuhin, Milstein, Szeryng, Ricci, Rabin to name a few, he observed the simplicity of their practice patterns and a tendency towards effortless posture and natural hand freedom. These observations became the cornerstones of a teaching method that he has developed and perfected over the past decades. His book "The Violin in 5ths - Developing Intonation and Sound" provides the best technique for violin students to improve their left-hand facility.

I am 92 and I play the viola. I have difficulty with my left hand off and on. After watching Rodney's in 5ths master class my left hand has improved considerably. Thank you Rodney.

One of the best tutorials I’ve found. This method is helping to improve my playing a lot! When the left hand develops a better shape and flexibility everything else seems to fall in place more easily.

Brilliant technical method!! I was studying the Ciaconne, decided to apply the exercises shown here and with twenty minutes (and the first time doing a full 5ths scale) I could play much better the hard passages of fifths from the piece!

I appreciate there are already three excellent presentations from Rodney Friend on this fascinating approach, but please, if you create another one, can we have a camera angle from over his shoulder so we can see exactly the angle his fingers make to the string and how much pad he's using? These are critical details which are really difficult to study in these recordings. Thankyou.

Can we see the hand and the fingers please on the screen - it would be helpful instead of just hearing someone play
