This is great news. Thank you for your on course experience. I just bought a set of p790s and on track and it was very consistent even with my slow swing speed. Looking forward to the Spring!

After years of using the game improvement irons I decided to test these out. I was a little nervous as I didn’t know if I could hit them. Needless to say my dispersion was great and my spin was up from 4500 to 5600 avg. So my cobra F9s are up for sale as I bought a full set yesterday. Great review by the way, liked the fact you kept the technical jargon to a minimum, and just played some golf.

Great analysis, thanks for the review. My set of P790's (4-PW) should arrive tomorrow. I can't wait to hit the range with these new beauties. I've been playing the Taylor Made SIM 2 MAX irons for a few months now and my game has improved enough to move on up to a player's iron. I'm an unofficial 6 handicapper. If I can bring that down by a stroke or two I will be elated.

The TM designers have done well to improve an already good looking Iron👍 It was interesting to hear your comments about the original version, I had a similar issue. Every time I tested them I really struggled to get a consistent ball flight and I kept hitting odd knuckle-balls. It will be interesting if I manage to hit the latest version any better.

Great review. I've tried the 7 iron myself from the pro shop at my club. Took it on the course and wow so impressed I want.

I'm like you lee, I just couldn't get on with the first 790s, the latest ones look superb, but I've just been fit into 921 Pros and they're staying in the bag for a long time! Great vid ⛳🏌️‍♂️👍

I just went from a 20 handicap using newer M6’s to a 10 handicap In less than 5 months due to me finally changing my grip and swing. I think I have graduated and need these new P790’s. Sold.

I recently went for an iron set fitting and am faced with a big dilemma between the p790s and t300s the numbers came out identical but the spin rate was a tad higher with the p790s. Any help/advise on which ones to go for would be much appreciated 👌

Just got fitted into these yesterday with the DG 105 S300 VSS shaft. I went in wanting the P770, but I could use the forgiveness and distance. I did 6-AW. Still feeling like I should’ve at least done AW, PW, and 9i in the P770, but I was afraid the gapping would be messed up

Hi Lee what do you think of the new p790 with a tensi av 70g stiff shaft. My swing speed with a 7 iron is about 82/85mph. Have a chance of them at a very reasonable price. Thanks for your input and great channel.

I love the review lee, like yourself I really struggling with flyers too 2019 model. I'm a low spin player and it wasn't good so ended up with forged tec black. My next set will be a blended set so could play 770 upto 5 iron and probably get away with the long irons. I see myself with the new titilest irons if I get anything

@@LWG oh nice I've never seen them yet. But if I was to play them I think I would play t100s 1 degree weak in shorter irons then upto 6 iron then t200

I had the exact same problem you did with the 2017 P790. Those "jumpers" started getting annoying.

4k revs with a 7 iron into leads me to believe this iorn could create some fliers out of the rough or on a wet day. That would still make me very nervous

2 completely different clubs mate. ZX4 is more forgiving and will aid launch (or should anyway) best bet is test before you buy

Worth the upgrade from 2019 to 2021?! Of course I just got the 2019 version last month 🤦‍♂️

I’ve ordered some what I will do is use one less club due to the stronger lofts.

Would the P790 be good for a beginner golfer?

Hi Lee, so what do think these new P790 compare to the P770? What kind of player would chose the P770 over the P790? Seems like the P790 is moving towards the P770 characteristics. Would it make the P770 obsolete?

Very similar in looks and feel. Major difference is the lofts. For me you have more control with P770 and more distance with P790

Completely different category of iron mate.

What’s the reason for wanting more spin? The 790’s have great stopping power, if you’re hitting your approach shot they’re going to stop within a couple feet of where the ball landed, as it looks like they did in this video. I’m obviously not as good of a golfer as you but what more could you ask for with more spin? You want them to move further when the land? Serious question from mid/high cap.

The more spin you have the quicker the ball stops depending on land angle. There is such a thing as too much spin too. It’s a balance of spin and distance

Okay thank you for clearing that up for me, I guess it matters what the greens are like as well, I was just seeing the balls you were hitting stopping quickly so I thought I would ask. Thanks again!

I really cannot understand how a club can cause a flier? I understand it from certain lies or a wet or muddy ball. I can understand forgiveness with weight distribution and having a small sweet spot or increasing forgiveness across the face by shaping or thinning the face. But how can a club cause a flier, can you please do video on the subject?

The idea is that the club is very forgiving and therefore retains ball speed all over the face. What can happen with "hot" irons is that when you strike one just a little high of center you not only get the low spin of hitting the ball higher on the face but the ball speed retention due to the clubs construction which leads to a high - low spin missile. Most clubs when hit higher on the face come out low spinning, but also a bit dead on ball speed due to not having much weight high in the face.

Loved your take on these irons seems not biased. Can we get these against the new t200. It would be nice to see your take

Lee, how is the offset of these clubs at address ? I have an older set of Taylormade irons and they have similar lofts (Rocketbladez) but to much offset. Curious how the offset on the new P790’s looks ?

Pretty good. Not excessive like super game improvement irons but not none existent like blades.

Ive ordered mine. Ive been looking at these since 2019 and I pulled the trigger last week. The lead time is a bit much tho, i wont get them until mid november which is well into winter in Canada.

They aren't released until 3 Sept but they have stock ready to go, so the time delay is just build time.

I had them aswell Lee, it's bullshit there the best, they always looked good just another taylormade whopper to be honest mate, Ave went back to old taylormade sldr irons, and they are quality

Why doesn’t anyone mention that the 8 - A wedge don’t have the speed pocket and therefore feel quite different to the 7 iron, which is always featured. Hit the 8 very low and you will know all about it. As far as I’m concerned that’s a good thing. Good strikes will go a similar distance, if not dead on but naturally with some dispersion, however pretty damned good. If I’m yet to play mine but so far they’re pretty decent.

No spin no purchase. If you want proper spin you need proper irons, forged and solid body,with trad lofts.
