I have been to Katsu Coffee. As a Japan lover who have visited Japan for so many times, I can say the pork curry and beef burger of Katsu are very excellent and even better than many restaurants in Japan.

Not a fan of the kenji groups restaurants, their sushi rice has not been fresh the last few times I've been. I know you can't mention them all, but Chizuru Tei at Haymarket is my favourite. It's not gimicky, or trendy looking, everything is simple but done very well. Their sushi is fresh and portions are generous, also their tenpura is light and beautiful.

Interesting - I think that has only happened to me once, and it was definitely noticeable. Other times I really enjoyed the rice! Sorry you had a bad experience .( Will try out Chizuru Tei soon!

Yamato on Lochrin Terrace, definitely one of the best in town! It’s on the more expensive side but great for special occasions or just treating yourself. Great otoro nigiri!

Thank you so much. Keeping these in mind for future trip. Loved Maki Ramen on our last visit. I’m always so impressed by the vegan options in Edinburgh. Wish I could say the same for Toronto’s Japanese food scene.

The place where you finished the video is so far my favourite ramen place, Hakataya. I know the owners and they are japanese, so far the closest ramen I've had to the ones in Japan. Try the Yokohama ramen, delicious!

I’m kicking myself for not fighting for this place to be a part of the video, because it would absolutely be my choice for ramen as well! But to keep things fair I didn’t want to veto anyone’s input - should have mentioned it though! And I genuinely believe I was planning to, but my brain just… decided not to .( great place!

Kudos on your pronunciation of karaage. While I probably won't hit up any of these while visiting as there are so many native foods to try, it's good to know they are there just in case the washoku cravings get out of control. Based on the menus, Kawaneko appears to be the most traditional, with Umi being the furthest out on the fusion spectrum. Thanks for the info.

As I stayed in Edinburgh for about a year, there were not so many Japanese food restaurants in the city. However, I went to a ramen shop called Tanpopo where a Japanese owner/chef from Kagoshima,Japan and his wife is Scottish sometimes. cheers
