    Remember the first captain America when Steve rescued Bucky? Bucky was strapped down on the bed. He had already been experimented on. That’s how he survived the fall. Then they added the metal arm after.

    Yeah whatever process Zola & HYDRA had started on Bucky when he was captured had toughened him up, but wasn't completed yet- which makes sense. They wouldn't give someone full super-soldier powers until after the subject was fully brainwashed and under their control. And during the year or so that Bucky was fighting alongside Steve and the other commandos, he didn't exhibit any kind of super abilities, he wasn't effortlessly tossing Nazis around or leaping 30 feet like Cap. When HYDRA found Bucky after his fall from the train, they finished the brainwashing and physical enhancement process, and replaced the arm he lost with a more powerful cybernetic one.

    The loyalty between Steve and Sam is because of the military connections. The loyalty between Steve and Bucky was "When I had nothing, I had Bucky". You will notice that all of Steve's choices are Morally motivated.

The movies done by the Russo Brothers were head and shoulders above everything else in the MCU (Winter Soldier, Civil War, Avengers:Infinity War, Avengers:Endgame) and they do a great job pulling threads from other movies (best call back between Winter Soldier and Endgame)...Good stuff is in store for you.

    Marvel (quite rightly) gets credit for doing a bunch of action really well. However, they also do some subtle/interesting character moments. As a for-instance (and I think I’m right about this) if you listen to Pierce really carefully, he rarely if ever lies; he uses a mix of truth and misdirection to get people to trick themselves. For another, if you watch the scene between Sam, Natasha, and Steve where Sam’s putting in his “resume”, note that Sam never says anything that would reveal classified details about his background, even as he hands over the specs from the suit. He full-on poker faces when Natasha asks about mission details, and when Steve says “I thought you said you were a pilot”, he just says “I never said pilot” but offers no other details. Good stuff.

    Alan Silvestri's "guts and glory" scores for _The First Avenger_ and _The Avengers_ suited them well, but Henry Jackman _(Wreck-It Ralph, Kong: Skull Island_ and so much more) was the perfect choice for _Winter Soldier_ and _Civil War_ as Steve's idealism is challenged by the corruption around him. Jackman's themes are so much darker and tragic without losing the heroic qualities. It's always a pleasure to see reactors appreciate a good score.

    And the name "Batroc" is based on the Latin (or was it Greek?) word for "frog". The taxonomic name for frogs is "batrachian". So frog = leaper. And I guess also that "frog" was sometimes used as a mild ethnic slur for the French in the WW2 era.

    This is 100% my #1 MCU favorite. The remaining of the top 10 move up or down on any given day. They are that good...but not to #1. I LOVE Sam Wilson! He is a solid dude. He was helping Vets. He recognized Steve was carrying a burden and just invited him in, anytime he liked. No "look, I can help the Avengers" job seeking. When the smelly substance hit the rotary oscillator, he is ready to gear up BECAUSE they needed his help. . SOLID DUDE! Peggy and Steve just rip...my...heart...out! Fury walking in from the helicopter; freaking amazing! So much more and I could do this all day, but I'll stop fanmanning.

    The look on your faces when Bucky was revealed! Priceless! In the theater, those of us who didn't figure it out were speechless! Again when Nick was shown as being alive. I'm so glad you watched it until the end! I love that Bucky went looking for his own history. Do you understand why this is my favorite of the MCU movies? It is non-stop action. Captain America is my favorite hero from the MCU. All three movies can battle for my number one spot depending on what type of mood I'm in. I am excited to see what you think of Guardians of the Galaxy. Funny story...I went to the movies when it was first released to see it. I was so tired, that I fell asleep, so I only knew how Guardians began and ended. I tried two other times and fell asleep in the exact same part. 🤣Now don't get me wrong, it is NOT a bad movie. It's quite good actually. I was just tired each time I went to see it. During the Pandemic, I did a date-release binge of all the movies and fell in love with Guardians. You will love it. I know you will. Great reaction as always guys!

    You kept remarking on how mysterious Nick Fury is. That's directly from the comics--as Tony Stark said in the first Avengers film, he's THE spy, even his secrets have secrets. In the comics, he was originally a white guy (Sgt. Nick Fury) who led the Howling Commandos during WWWII. After the war, He and the Howling Commandos (minus Steve and Bucky) were asked to form SHIELD--and the SHIELD leaders were given the Infinity Formula once a year so as to stay young and in top shape. Marvel Comics eventually created an alternate universe in which Fury was black and looked like Sam Jackson--who agreed to let his likeness be used on the condition that if Marvel was ever to use Nick Fury in film, he'd get the part. In the comics, Sam Wilson, the Falcon, wasn't ex-military turned VA counselor. He was a social worker who had grown up in Harlem. He became Cap's partner,

    not sure if anyone said it but I believe that the crew Steve saved was the 107th, not the 101st. I think Pierce only mentioned it to say that his father was in the war with Steve 😊 I really love the reaction though. Your guys are so wholesome to watch!

    So for MCU, aka phase 1-3 as I kind of stayed there and didn't really venture further apart from a couple of movies/TV series, this is my favorite movie and the one where I decided that now I got my favorite Avenger too. As a movie it just really stood out to me. Not that the others are bad, I enjoyed them too of course but this one stepped it up for me. I also just simply like Steve and how even though he's a soldier he is questioning things and he stood his ground to Nick Fury. He's the boss! And for all his brief scenes in Cap's First Avenger movie I really really liked Bucky too so to see him again as the Winter Soldier was a huge shock but also a hope that he can be saved was born. And then we had Natasha and the introduction of Sam Wilson, the Falcon. Great combo!! My other top 3 movies are CA: Civil War and Guardians of the Galaxy. You're in for a fun ride next time. I'm sure you'll love it. Special shout out to the music. Best soundtrack ever. EDIT: Um. My top 3 are for the "solo" movies. I wouldn't know how to include the Avengers movies in a ranking because they're just special in a different way. But ALL the Avengers Movies are also overall MCU, phase1-3, top 10.

    I've seen all the MCU movies and shows. I still believe pound for pound, this is the best MCU movie. When I was a comics collector for many years, I always liked the ground level heroes a lot more than the OP godish, alien can do anything heroes. Those bore me. I like heroes that deal with current issues and have to do with real world stuff. That being said, I never liked Captain America. He wasn't even on my radar. Amazingly, the MCU got me to like CAP. Is he my favorite? No. But I do prefer MCU CAP to comics CAP and THAT is rare. I don't know if there is another character in the MCU I can say that about. CAWS is a great movie. When this movie came out in conjunction to the events of Agents of Shield, the MCU was on top of its game with narrative. We all know what happened later but this was a great period for the MCU. Without saying too much I will just say that organizations like SHIELD and HYDRA and AIM ect have always been essential to the narratives in the Marvel Comics Universe. They are greatly needed. Every threat heroes face can't be global events. That is all I will say about that but those that know the MCU know why I said that.

    In the comics, she's not that much younger than the fossil Steve Rogers. Along with some high ranking SHIELD agents (Fury, Dum Dum Dugan, Anita Hill, etc.),, Natasha Romanoff takes an annual dose of the Infinity Formula, a weakened form of the Super Soldier serum that holds off aging and keeps one at the height of one's skills, endurance, etc. She may have also, like Bucky, been exposed to the Soviet version of the Super Soldier formula.

    The MCU never established that. They should've because it would make a lot of things make a hellava lot more sense when it comes to her. Having her do a lot of stuff she does as a normal woman is ridiculously silly town.

  • @michaelwestmoreland-white4664

    @michaelwestmoreland-white4664

    @@bryce253 It would also have explained her age. She is supposed to have defected from the KGB to SHIELD even in the MCU. But the KGB was reorganized into the FSB when the USSR collapsed on Christmas Day in 1991. But Scarlett Johansson is only 39, born in 1984, meaning Natasha would've been 7 at the end of the KGB. This could've been solved easily if she was much older than she appeared because of annual injections of the Infinity Formula, a weakened version of the Super Soldier serum.

    Remember the music playing as Steve got to his apartment and found Fury inside. It will come up again in a later movie or two. This is one of the best MCU movies. So different from the others. This earned the Russo brothers the honor of taking over the next two Avengers movies as well as the next Captain America movie. One of the best decisions Marvel made for the MCU.

    I have to say that I was surprised by how much I like the character of Steve Rogers/Captain America in the MCU. I read some of his comics growing up, but he was never a favorite. I'm not a flag waver. In real life, I'm suspicious of the way the military industrial complex (which is so much worse than when Eisenhower warned us about it in 1960) exploits people's natural love of their country for imperialist aims. And, just as the first Captain America film showed, this character was originally a propaganda tool. But Chris Evans plays Steve Rogers as such man of integrity--the spirit of the nation's highest ideals, rather than a servant of any government, political party, etc. That comes across in the first film and in The Avengers, but it really shines through here.
