Just a shout out to Volkl strings they have a great ready made Hybrid that has a comfortable multi filament Power Fiber II string and a relatively comfortable poly string called Volkl cyclone. It's called Volkl Psycho and is great if you have arm issues but don't want to give up poly altogether. Thanks for your great videos by the way i loved watching them during lockdown they really cheered me up and i love your no nonsense deadpan delivery...keep it up!

It is very personal Kojak, some solid suggestions for sure. Great job big fella.👍 It is personal because....preferences for feel, tension, racquet, expectations, budget....everybody has different needs and the choice is almost endless. There area so many smaller brands out there also, no real need to pay premium prices for the likes of Luxilon, Babolat etc when other companies offer excellent strings at more reasonable prices. If cost wasn't an issue, I still think I'd be using Alu power rough more often than not. Just so happens I use it far less than others these days. Strings have evolved & the competition increased dramatically. Cheers. 🎾🎾🎾

I use a solinco tour bite 1.2 in the main in combination with Luxilon adrenaline 1.25 in the cross. The tour bite i string it at 23 kg and the cross I always do 2 kg lower than the main. All poly lose 10 to 15% of their tension in the first few hours and are stable after. after the first tension loss, this combination hits the sweet spot for me. Nice pocketing, good spin, nice power, predictability and feel. (my racket is the clash 100, adapted to 340gr static weight and 320 swingweight, balance 305mm) my string combination is also affordable, while feeling premium and good tension maintenance

I bought a stringing machine and reels, as I’m stringing for myself and my twins Now my string jobs cost me £4 a go so I can re-string all our rackets every week, No problems with tension maintenance anymore. Great investment imo. I tried Confidential, a very nice string. Imo you’re wasting your money by putting Nat Gut in the crosses, you can use a synth gut, Natural gut in the mains is absolutely amazing and unbeatable in terms of touch and feel,

What do you use on cross with natural gut on main?

I tried the Luxilon 4G/Head Velocity MLT hybrid in a Yonex Vcore Pro 100 and it was great! Low power control with nice crisp feel without being harsh. Strung 4G in the mains at 48 lbs and Velocity in the crosses at 52 lbs. Thanks for the suggestion!

I have tried Wilson Sensation Control 1.3 in mains 26kg and Wilson Revolve 1.3 in crosses 24kg. Great power and spin blend on my Pro Staff Six.One 95.

I buy discounted gut for my mains and now tried solinco confidential in the crosses. Nice set up. Normally I use kirschbaum pro line II in the crosses.

when i string for people they are to scared of trying gut possibly breaking it at the price point, so the majority of the time i just use x-one biphase as an alternative. slightly more cost effective. for the most part everyone seems to love there alu rough with some bipahse. i have heard there is quality control issues with Klip Gut decided to give it a try when i saw it on sale, seems to play ok for me. picked up a few packs for people possibly wanting to try gut at at a more reasonable price point. no complaints yet

Good comment using the natural color VS in place of the dyed black one for better feel. I stumbled across this myself recently.

Had to try some of these suggested hybrids. I usually go with VS Gut mains 16/Luxilon Alu Power 18 at 57lbs in a Head Gravity Pro, or the same setup at 55lbs in 95 head sized racquets (Wilson 6.1 Classics, Six.One, and Head Pro Tour 2.0). All feel so good and give perfect spin. Crosses generally break first after about 10 hrs. Tried X-1 Biphase 16 / Solinco Confidential 17 in the Gravity Pro, twice, and both times the multi broke at about 1.5 hrs. Not willing to see if it will saw through my gut. I tried Gamma TNT Pro 16 full bed and as a main with Alu Power 18 and Alu Power Feel, and it wasn't doing it for me. The string is too gummy, not enough snap back and it just sticks out of place. I will give it credit for lasting longer than X-1 Biphase or other multis. Sticking with gut/alu power 18s, as it works best for me.

Wolfy’s current setup is Signun Pro Poly Deluxe (17ga) as main, and Genesis Zero Gravity (16ga) as cross at 55 lbs. A couple of guys have Wolfy stringing this setup in their racquets at 57 lbs, and they love the spin they can generate without a lot of shock to their arm. Also have Genesis Hexonic (16) and Zero Grav in one racquet (Burn FST99) at 55. This is a firmer feel, not as much power as with the 17 mains, but easier to control.

The best combination I found so far: Luxilon M2 Plus on main and Head synthetic Gut or Solinco Hyper-G on cross. There is "nothing" better but tension is tricky and you have to experiment yourself depending on your racket stiffness and your playing style. I put on 5HH, a relatively stiff rackety at 10.7 oz 50/54 lbs (main /cross). I hit mostly flat on both sides. Obviously, the best is natural gut but it doesn't hold tension for too long and cost 1/3 of the racket price. If you are not a professional player and you find YOUR golden combination there is no need for slotting sheeps.

I hybrid with Luxilon 4G mains with Prince Syn gut cross @53lbs. Great combo, works well for my game.

We've tried so many hybrid and we settled to either Cyclone/CycloneTour and ALU Power/Triax. For our high school clients, we give them either Alu Power/VelocityMLT or Element/VelocityMLT. Polys are prestretch at 10%.

I have found the ultimate hybrid but it's not for string breakers. I put Klip 18 gage natural gut on the mains and 18 gage Polystar Energy in the crosses. It is the very best string set up you can create for it has great spin and control yet it has power and feel and it's very easy on the arm. Problem is you do have to order the 18 gage Polystar Energy poly string direct from Germany.

A budget version of Champ's choice would be Klip Xplosive. Had it in my setup for a while and was DYNAMITE 😍 power control spin, amazing

Great video. Would you suggest to string the poly strings (whether on the main or cross) about 10% looser than the non poly? That’s what I’ve always been told but don’t know if it’s right.

Question: what happens blacking the natural gut(became firmer) is the same thing that happensa when the companies colour the overgrips. In my opinion the white so the pure color without any addition is always the best.

Best budget multi I have found is technifibre multifeel. Extremely durable for a multi and what I use in my hybrids and I pair it with Wilson revolve. Plays like luxilon alu power for half the price. Check it out

Tennis Spin I'm old school playing tennis from back in the 90s using graphite rackets. In those days, I would probably break strings every 3 months and I played tennis daily. My 14 year old plays tennis 1.5 hours 7 times a week. He breaks strings every week. We tried different combo of using 15 gauges on mains (59lbs) and crosses (56lbs) on Wilson Pro Staff 97 LS. We use Luxilon 15 gauge mains and Wilson NXT 15 gauge crosses. He would break the Luxilon or NXT. With the 16x19 string patterns in modern rackets, is that what is causing string to break after only around 14 hours of use?

I got a wilson nxt comfort and I used it on the cross with babolat rpm blast. Not really find of the wilson nxt. Ball seems to slip from the strings and not really getting crispness on my volleys. What can I use apart from the nxt comfort that is comfortable for my shoulder /arm? Thanks

Question, if I currently use the Champs Choice set up (I’ve played around with the gut in both mains and crosses) but am looking for a slightly cheaper alternative, what should I try? Hi, Im currently playing with a Tecnifibre X One Biphase. I changed to this string since I have elbow problems. However, I break these strings very fast and therefore I was thinking on doing Hybrid or changing to Poly. What do you recommend? Do you recommend the Hyper G soft ?

I really liked a pre stretched RPM Blast at 40 and Head Hawk Touch on the crosses at 40. I liked the crisp hit which was comfortable on the arm and shoulder.

@@bowsershark another thing to ask if you don't mind : a bit earlier this year I had wanted to start trying stringing polys at lower tension. However, the lowest I have got is only about 46 lb. I know that sometimes you have to go quite a bit lower such as down to 40 lb or lower to start getting those low poly tension benefits. I know it's counterintuitive, but I've heard that control goes back up when you go low enough with tension, without getting a loose trampoline sensation. Have you found that to be true with your setup? I imagine it must be part of why you like it along with tension maintenance. I guess I'm a bit scared to try to go way lower on the tension on my Youtek prestige pros that I just switched because I've already been having some problems sending balls long with that hefty racquet

Scott, experimenting is fun when you try different thing and find out what suits your style of play. I have used two polys in a hybrid set up and it worked well. Use the characteristics of the string you most like on the main. I used a softer co-poly on the cross in a thicker Guage ex. 17/16 and it works well. Also, regarding lower tensions, one must hit more topspin to control the ball. It becomes apparent on the first hits the one hits flat and beyond the baseline 😃 .

It helps for knowing what to play with and making decisions to keep string cost down. Also, if you know what a string plays like before you put it in a racquet, you can get a better feel on how to tension the string for your best use.

Had to try a hybrid set up after having Cyclone 17G @ 52 in my stick for like 2 weeks, Recently had my buddy string my gravity tour with Solinco Confidential (M) @ 50 and Solinco Vanquish (C) @ 54, I haven’t played in a hybrid in quite sometime. But as Tennis Spin, super predictable, i think this set up has great feel and love the pocketing I get on the ball. As for durability I’ll get back with you guys on that. Have played total of 4-6 hours maybe on It so far and I’m enjoying It. Looking to see if there is a bit more durable option for the crosses. My favorite thing so far is the feel I get. There is no Wilson gut. It is Babolat with Wilson label and made by older Babolat formula (different coating and therefore a bit better than current VS Touch).

@@perakojot6524 The current Wilson gut is actually not made by Babolat - its made by Luxilon. If you look closely at the back of the packaging, you'll see that its 'Made in Belgium'. The difference between Wilson and Luxilon is that the Wilson has 8 strands of serosa fibre versus Luxilon's 9, and the coating is different.

a question about the length of a full set string (40 feet): will it be enough for 2 string jobs as the main of a racket of 98 head with 16/19 string bed? assuming main consumes more string than cross does.

yes...tho you may have to make "tails" to reach the tensioner. cut the 40 in half and proceed. i do my 118 inch mains with less that 20 feet (multi stretches)

I used a prestretched 17g Babolot RPM Blast on mains and a 15g Ashaway on crosses successfully.

I remember I used to string my racquets with Alu at 60lbs when I was 14....

Take lessons. If you can't hit with extreme spin with technique, changing strings isn't going to help you.

As said before, if you are not putting gut in the main don't bother. You actually get more spin with Gut in Main and Poly in cross. I always string cross lower as I want better snapback for spin. I string my gut 2+ lbs over normal (don't like the boardy feel of pre-stretched gut). I string main gut 4 lbs higher than poly cross.

If I cut out the poly in the hybrid as a crosses bc it’s dead, can I keep the natural in the mains and only restring the cross? Would the pro shop do that for me? Or they would just say I’m crazy ?

Cutting the crosses would stresses the frame unevenly and distort the frame, so it's quite a stringing taboo (even worse if you only cut the mains). Theoretically, you could mount the racquet on the machine before cutting the crosses to take the stress off the frame, but I doubt a pro shop would be willing to do that for you.

More common to cut out crosses and restring them. I regularly do that myself, the crosses being the multi-filament string. In the mains I have used the Luxilon Timo, but now discontinued.

My daughter uses gut mains and the 4G crosses. She breaks the poly crosses not the gut most times. Not sure why she breaks the poly crosses more. The gut lasts longer

Would put confidential in mains . Sheep micro is one the best synthetic for crosses but there are better multifilament strings for crosses like solinco vanquish

What tension differential do you use with gut/poly, poly/gut, synthetic/poly, poly /synthetic? I have been using 3-5# less on the poly in either configuration. Curious to what you do. Thanks for the videos. Keep it coming

The only one I can speak of with plenty of experience is poly mains and syn gut/gut/or multi crosses. I always have the poly strung more loosely in the mains. (3 to 5 pounds lower) In that situation, yes I have poly looser, but I think generally you want the crossed tighter than the mains. This can help your mains slide and snap back more easily because the crosses should hold their position more tightly

Hybrid with poly and natural gut is the BEST combo. but problem i have is that i restring every 2 weeks and it gets just too expensive. and One thing you are Wrong on is, if you hybrid the Poly, you get LESS Spin not more spin

Joseph Hodge The feel and tension maintenance is absolutely great, but it the durability was ok ig . I strung mine at 60lbs for a lot of control and did 57lbs on the crosses with the polys. A good alternative is the tecnifibre triax

if u are spending money on gut, then you should put it on the mains, because mains are 70% of the string bed play-ability, that's where it's gonna make a real difference, for crosses, multis will be half price and almost same efficiency.

I use old babolat pure drive team 2003, can you recommend a soft string to play with, i have tried poly at 50 n 40lbs and i still feel vibration n i hurt my wrist/elbow/shoulder with every hits, the vibration is so annoying to my arm, thanks in advance

All polys will vibrate. Try a hybrid with Tecnifibre X-One Biphase 16g on the mains and Luxilon Element 125 on the cross at 48lbs. That should help a lot. Thank you for watching.

There are too many combination involved, ploy multi gut , tension , main cross, brands. I think I wont find my best setup before I die, so I give up hybrid. I am playing full bed ploy now. :-) it's OK.
