I like it. Feels like the story ends on the exact tipping point where two species start to build a relationship.

This story reminds me of the conversation I had with my brother. About how tasty humans are, and he told me that humans taste nasty to other creatures. Especially to sharks, and I acted like I was offended at the idea of not tasting great. Obviously jokingly.

I thought so too, but after checking HFY Reddit, the author apparently only writes one-offs. /sadface

Such an absolutely WILD setup, for the story to end on such a slice of life note.

I have a book, poisonous animals of Australia, so I know what I can't eat or how to make poisonous animals edible. sometimes just boiling them for a bit then onto the BBQ is all we need to do. YUMMM

That's it ?? No army of loathesome sentient-eating Space Octopussusses descending on the planet ? No humans improvising a small defense force, kicking their asses ? No Tritilli realizing they over-reacted when being jerks to the friendly humans ? Man, these HFY stories are really slipping. ( kidding of course, I loved the story ! )

@@KaiHenningsenyes that’s the reference, but the metaphor should have been “decoy shoppers” or something. Though I guess the MC is both the shopping cart and the decoy in this scenario

I think the government that brought people in to sit on their porch and drink tea would be the decoy shoppers in the metaphor, making the humans doing a 'lo-fi girl' cosplay the shopping cart.

wish this story could have been expanded a bit further, just seems as if it kinda stopped at the wrong juncture. it does have potential.

I don't know about that... following the metaphor of shopping carts this story ends with the first customer putting a hand on the handle and pulling it from the rack.
