It's good to see that your primary sponsor has renewed their faith in your channel. I was surprised to discover that I have been an unwitting long-term beta tester for their new cable management system - non-resonant and oh so non-conductive.
Just got a pair of these. So far they are great, thanks for the heads up
Just finished listening to Qobuz hi res version of RATM debut album on my Edition XS and Topping DX3 Pro+ and i still have goosebumps. I literally couldn’t stop listening until the album played through. $700 US for performance like that. Incredible. What a great time to be an audiophile! Great advice Randy, keep on keeping it real.

I bought the Hifiman Sundara. A brilliant headphone. I am now a happy camper.
Thank you, man. Your work is fantastic. I just got this headphone and I really like it. My next step is to try to mess around with the EQ. Maybe to add some punch to upper middle range and reduce slightly something at the treble.
Just found this channel.. so refreshing to hear a down to earth review. Thanks dude
Excellent review. Have been thinking of getting an open-back headphones. Probably will get XS in the near future.
Dekoni Nuggets work wonders for those types of HiFiMan headbands. I have them on the Deva Pro and if you have a bigger head you can put Nuggets over the L and R indicators to alleviate any pressure spot on the top.
Love the headphone stuff. Just started getting into them since I can listen when the kids go to bed and I absolutely love it. Loving the Sundaras, but you know how the chase goes.
Solid review! I think you are the first American reviewer to review the Hifiman Edition XS.
Finally Sith Audio is doing the right thing and continuing to support the channel 👍
listening on these brilliant headphones. thank you randy
Thanks for the headphone content. Anyone wanting for an affordable planar would definitely have the XS on the short list. In the same way, someone looking to buy would be asking themselves how it compares with the Sundara; so, the shootout is right on target. I liked the video.
i got one for Christmas and i agree with every single word you said.I love em! 😀
just ordered a pair on sale, hyped!
I'm sold based on this. Using Metallica and Zepp as a reference helped enormously. Far too many reviewers bring out all these "headphone test" songs that I don't think many people ever listen to casually, so hearing the impression based on actual music is awesome. @@Tuncakinguc I would put the XS as wider, but not by a ton. Sub-bass is definitely deeper and harder on the XS.
Great review Randy. They don't have to be perfect to be perfect for you.
I currently own Sundaras and had Anandas. The Ananda was like the Sundara but THICC bass and a much wider soundstage but less impact overall. The sundara likes to image most things into the center and a bit close to the face, and then have left and right off at a 45. I'm thinking I'll get the Edition xs and get enough of the Ananda out of them but without the price tag. The Ananda's wider stage with greater depth and razer thin center image versus the blob of the Sundara was wonderful. The reason I returned them was because one of the cups was grinding on the frame above where it was held it to the headband, I immediately lost faith in the build.
Awesome headphones, I just got around to reviewing them. Enjoyed seeing your assessment
First time on this channel and I take it that you have been sponsored by an electrical tape? Immediately subscribed
At first I was mad that I heard about the XS literally days after buying Sundara, but then I saw the headband. Big single piece bands like that one (no matter how cushy) give my poor noggin' a big old pain. Suspension headbands ftw!
I got mine about three weeks ago and I think they are great! On the forums there has been a discussion about whether they need an absurd amount of power or not. I drive them both from an iPhone and from the L50 and I find them equally enjoyable. It would be great to have someone trying them on different amps!

"Audiophiles" will tell you need to buy a $1000 amp to enjoy your headphones, but the truth is, even $100 amps like the Schiit Heresy are more than enough to power 99% of headphones to their full potential. There's literally only two qualifiers for a good (non-tube) amp, and that's the amount of power it can supply and how little distortion it adds. The Heresy can output 3 WATTS of power with virtually 0 distortion. Cheap amps today made by reputable brands measure better and output more power than 10 year old flagship amps that cost over a grand in their time.

@@rainydaygirlz The 'ASR' kind of measurements don't really result in any audible differences as amply illustrated by Andrew from 'The Headphone Show' in his video on SINAD and also as illustrated by Lachlan from 'The Passion for Sound', Sandu from 'Sound News' and many other regular listeners as well. What matters is the type of amplification used (class A, op amp, discreet etc) and the quality of components used in the gear.

Hello sir great review, may I ask what are the good recommended Amp/Dac combos to go with this pair of headphones, my setup is PC and budget is around $800. Ty !!
I really like that Sith audio makes affordable stuff like the cable management nano-tape for entry level users like me. I feel that the carbon impregnated flex isolation strip really improves the speed and control of the lower mid and upper punch regions. My only problem is that I can't afford the measurement or segmentation tools for properly delineating the cable management material. I'm saving up to get that kit, but in the mean time I'm using my phone and a kitchen knife to create the cable management segments. I'm pretty sure I'm losing resolution because of that. Thanks Sith Audio.

Review the Klipsch RB-81 II! It would amuse me. It would be cool to get your input.
How about for critical listening, recording/tracking? Is the tuning too "tweaked"?
I did get hot spots on top from the edition XS but all I had to do was get an extra HD600 headband cushion (knock off one worked good) and 3 velvro straps to keep it in place. Little bending of the yolks to get more side clamp and these feel almost as close to my HD6XX for comfort as I think I can get them.
So, Randy curios which, if you know, which version of the Highfiman is Jason Stiddard useing for his floor staff. As l heard him comment they take a lick'n and keep on ticking. The reason l ask is the 3 out of 10 reviews at Amazon were snarky on build quality. PS... U ever going to do a Powered Speaker Shot out with say the Klipsh 5's oh please...
Great review! Ninja neodymium magnets are the Cobra Kai of magnets.
Will these pair well with BiFrost/Jotenheim? I can’t consider other gear yet. Currently using Sundaras with the above. It may be my ears but something seems missing 🤷🏻♂️ maybe I should keep the Sundaras and change sac/amp 😆
Hi Randy can you review some Audio-Technica headphones?
Is there a good aftermarket brand for a cable for these? And what amp do you recommend for these? Under $500, hopefully.
I think the main advantage of the "stealth" magnets, is they have less air turbulence, because sharp corners can cause that. It does sound like a great pair of headphones! Maybe you can try the Dan Clark / Drop Open-X at some point, and compare them?
@MyouKyuubi
2 жыл бұрын
No, it's acoustic science... Square magnets have a hard flat surface that reflects soundwaves like a mirror back towards the source of the sound... It's reverberation, sound reflections, this can do many things to ruin the sound, specifically it can cancel out a lot of frequencies and ruin detail retrieval. The stealth magnets are rounded, made to be acoustically invisible, or at least acoustically transparent, less reverberation, less frequency nullification, etc... Causes the headphones sound to "open up". I mean, the air turbulence could be a factor too (Like a happy accident), but the stealth magnets was designed specifically with the intention of allowing soundwaves to pass by the magnets easier.

XS are the cats meow! Huge upgrade over Sundara’s. Everything comes to life even more. Powered by SMSL SU-9 and Topping A90. Inspiring, immersive sound stage, rich bottom end. I do have to eq 12khz for some female vocals to tame a bit of sizzle Andrew talks about. Comfort level cannot be underestimated over Sundaras. Took Cheapaudiomans reco and went for the XS. Dead on assessment. Rather than use the technical descriptions you often hear. I will use emotional verbiage. XS opens the door to a new portal to sonic nervana. The roof lifts open on your listening experience. Fun expands to wonder and audio joy. I now have a seat in the inner circle of the recording studio.
