Best Headlamp - Olight vs Armytek - Perun 2 vs Wizard C2 Pro Max

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

The Olight Perun 2 is Olight's flagship headlamp. The Wizard C2 Pro Max is Armytek's flagship product. But which is the best? In this review I get to compare Olight with Armytek as well as comparing the best headlamp (or head torch if you are in the UK!) flashlights they offer. Olight and Armytek head-to-head, literally! Perfect for camping, hiking and home use.

Product Sourcing:
When it comes to sourcing a product for review, I will usually either purchase an item personally or reach out to a supplier requesting a sample for review. Most suppliers, after seeing the channel, are supportive if they are confident in their product, appreciating the value of greater exposure.
I am sometimes asked to review a product by a supplier which I will only agree to if the product fits the channel and I believe will be of interest to you, my audience. Also the product needs to be worthy of a review. It is not in my interest to review inferior or poor quality products and therefore as you might expect many requests are politely declined.
Any sponsored videos (paid for reviews) are clearly stated as such so there can be no misunderstanding. Even with sponsored reviews I will only agree to a sponsorship on products and services which I believe will be of genuine interest to viewers.
I will always make reference in the video to products which have been provided for review by a supplier and I always make it clear to the supplier that they cannot influence or be involved in the review in any way if they chose to supply a product.
Sometimes a supplier will provide a link to the product or the supplier which I am happy to include in the description. Sometimes I will be provided with an affiliate link so I can earn a commission on sales and this helps to support channel costs but never at the expense of an honest review.
If a product I have reviewed is available from Amazon I will often include an Amazon link in the description. As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases. If you purchase a product or service with the links that I provide I may receive a small commission. There is no additional charge to you.
A big thank you to Olight and Armytek for sending out these product to me for review.
Thank you for supporting the channel so I can continue to provide you with regular reviews, thoughts and ideas and (hopefully) inspiration! Please consider subscribing to keep up to date with new video releases.

I have the Armytek here, it is a multifunction BEAST - long run times on High, never overheats, RED light is a huge selling point, and all the different modes. The only con I have with it is, it is HEAVY.

Bought the armytek C2 pro max warm from onbuy for £79 Inc delivery. As a maintenance engineer and occasional walker, I am more than happy with the modes and output level. The armytek does disperse the light and does put more of the periphery into view, which does feel comfortable on the eyes. The turbo mode is crazy bright and will ignite materials close to the lens.(could come in handy lol) The additional advanced modes accessible with a combination of screw cap turns and button presses give you a very powerfull headsplitting strobe mode, other light modes, and a battery indicator flash(every 4 seconds)on the switch, handy if you drop your torch in a dark environment. The Firefly mode 1 would be more than sufficient for in tent illumination or working in dark enclosures and will last for 2 months !. The magnetic base is very strong, and the magnetic base charger is solid. Armytek isn't a light for running, in my opinion, as it is quite heavy and would likely move around on the headband.

Armytek has more options that are not mentioned in the manual, just the way u switch it into advanced mode by turning that cap once u can do other modes as well. For example u can turn that bottom twice or three times. When u turn it twice holding on/off switch it will move into tactical mode and when u turn it three times u activate led that is under on/off switch and it will blink so if u drop the flashlight at night it will be blinking so u can find it in the darkness. It also has option that u can turn light on three different time periods after which the light will turn off. I watched it on some other Polish channel it is weird that it is not mentioned in manual. U can also remove magnet if u don't want it in there but i am not sure if charging by the usb magnetic charger will be avaible after that(u will have to charge battery alone). I think this option is also nice if u would put your flashlight with other metal items in your pocket or backpack where u can have compass for example and u dont want magnetic influence.

Lumens is a measure of overall light. It’s candella that measures light intensity. Hence 2 different lights might share similar lumens but the spot beam will have higher candella. So lumens is only part of the equation. Thanks for the review.

From a usability point of view, I can see right away that the Armytek can be used with a single hand while head mounted, but the Olight needs both hands. Pressing that button will just slide the torch sideways on your head, whereas with the Armytek you can just pinch it between your fingers.

Thank you, Jon, for your highly informative and fair reviews. I much appreciated this comparison video in particular since it made me aware of Armytek and made me buy the Wizard C2 Pro Max as an occasional front light for the bike, casual outdoor usage, as well as all-purpose, built-like-a-tank flashlight to have around. I have two Olights as well, which I like, but have recently taken a more critical stance with regards to their strategy on proprietary batteries and loading cables as well as, to a lesser degree, their overly heavy focus on marketing. With regards to the two lights, I prefer the Armytec since it will accept any other 21700 battery with at least up to 15 A current which are available as USB-C-rechargeable variants. This will let me use the convenient magnetic cable at home but I won’t ever have to rely on it or remember packing it. The impressive robustness is a bonus which appeals to me as well even though I do not plan to abuse it. I get where you are coming from with regards to the complications of the Armytec’s UI and how Olight offers a simpler solution which will appeal to most users more. That being said, I don’t think the Armytec design is a failure either. More complicated than it needed to be? Quite likely-but I would say not too complicated to use it effectively and have a good experience with it. But maybe that’s my Germanness speaking ;).

My channel is Abandoned Mine Hunters, and I rely on my olight to be able to see inside mines and to be reliable. Wow,at first, i was considering to buy Nitecore hc35, then i found this olight perun 2, which i think offers better quality. Now i found your video, and learned that there is a better flashlight among them(armytek). Which i now considering to buy, not until i found that the turbo can last for a short time. Well same for the perun. Though what i like is that it can last for days and has a high drop test as well as 10mtrs water immersion. Bdw, I've been using hyper tough products for my work for a long time. Its just that they are not oil resistant especially the rubber part. That's why I'm considering replacement. Thanks for the solid review. Very very helpful mate.

I don't think the Armytek is overly complicated - I think the reviewer is over-egging it unnecessarily. You don't need to remember all the details of flashes per second - just amber = 25% and red = 10%. And similarly the charging lights aren't very complicated.

Having used a head light for many years working under vehicles and doing repairs a light more centrally located to the head with an adjustable beam pattern is important . There are other lights which offer an end magnet with a swivel head allowing you to remove and place it in a tight spots . A fixed head lamp could not place the light beam where It is most needed in those conditions . Of course your are showing these for something a little different . The three things for me is comfort with the head band , weight , and a beam that gives the type of light that is not fatiguing . Spare batteries are a must . LEDs have spoiled us all but I have yet to find a head flashlight that can do it all . The Coast XPH30R for the price and flexibility is close .

I use a Nitecore hc33, it is a fantastic small and tactical "L headlight" . Recently I compared the hc 33 with a olight perun 2 and I prefer hc 33 because olight perun 2 is to big and the intensity is imperceptible.. Hc 33 has mixted light with a medium spot and the olight has a flood light.

For headlamps, these 2 flashlights are surprisingly large. The newer Perun 2 mini is actually more suitable for head "carry" and has a red light mode. I love the sturdy construction of the Perun 2 that I have (in blue) and I think clipped on a pack it would be fantastic. 5 Lumens moonlight mode however is a bit much for my taste as I would have preferred 1 or even 2 lumens like the Perun 2 mini. Great review, and I will certainly give a second look at Armytek from now on.

Totally agree. I have the perun 2 mini and it's great. The best light for the size. But for the 18650 or 21700 size I much prefer armytek, the normal perun doesn't offer anything special imo

I use the regular Armytek Wizard Pro with white light and the 18650 battery. I use it at least 5 days a week working and the low setting is more than enough for plumbing either under house or in attics. I only charge my battery once a week and it's not even dead when I charge it. I don't see the need for the new headlamp with the 21700 battery. Both lights the Armytek and O Light are very nice but of the two the Armytek has the superior headband. The O Light headband is just like the earlier versions of the Armytek.

good comparison. I think the armytek wins for me for one reason alone... The location of the switch. I've been using Zebralight headlamps for years. They have the same form factor with the switch on the top (like the olight) and I find it annoying to press the button sometimes while using it as a headlamp. The Armytek on the other hand, you only need to pinch the head of the flashlight to activate the switch.

I see what you mean about the armytec being a bit complicated, but if as it's name implies, aiming at military personnel or security staff, they'd be using it pretty much daily or weekly at least so they're likely to become quite used to the operations of it. Good review 👍.

I use my perun 2 as a primary source of lighting for my un-powered warehouse-man-cave I reside in. It goes a couple of weeks between recharges. I love that purple/blue little light. My only gripe is the proximity sensor that supposedly dims the brightness when you're too close to something. Excess computerisation for bugger all improvement in function.. For a 10metre drop & 10 metre dunk rating, I'd get an armytech to stick on my helmet for nighttime kayaking

I know on the Olight "Freyr" to disable the proximity sensor, while the light is on.. you do 15 fast clicks & it's disabled. Maybe try this for the Perun 2 ? I don't own a Perun 2 to test it. I would try 15 fast clicks and then try 20 fast clicks while the light is on, if 15 didn't work. I'm sure if the "Freyr" proxy sensor can be disabled.. so can the Perun 2. Hopefully it works! I had the Biolite 750 I think it was from 2015 it died on me about 2 weeks ago it stopped holding a charge as the Battery on those is all built in £99 to replace it I got a whole series of Biolite kit in 2015 £200 all in a stove kettle grill Headlamp and Solar light as well everything else is still going strong but living in Wales it is pitch black by 3pm nowadays in winter and I'm a dog walker owner so I like to see were we're both walking.

I would buy the armytek because of the headband. I use a headlamp for work and the optic and warm white tint work better for close up. Those rubber ring headbands are a pain in the ass. In Canada the Armytek is hard to get and way more expensive than the olight. The armytek has an 18650 version which is a bit lighter with sufficient runtimes. I have never owned an armytek but would love to try it. I have owned plenty of olights and they are always solid lights. If you don’t like your armytek feel free to send it my way. Lol

However when you showed the beam light I was I,pressed with the Olight. I am the same as yourself I prefer the narrow longer beam. I agree that the army tech did not seem as bright. You may laugh at this comment but here in Canada Costco sold three headlamps for 25 Canadian and work surprisingly well in terms of brightness. Now the interesting thing you have the narrow long beam which we both prefer. But it also had an additional 180 setting on the side of the light. Pretty awesome for the price. As of January 15, 2022 I have still not received a replacement torch - no way acceptable, and I am out money since I had to pay to ship my broken torch to China. I live in Canada.
