Hi 👋 my name is Jonathan and this channel is all about helping you find the right everyday carry and travel gear to reduce friction in everyday life, and on your travels.

Before KZread I spent many years sourcing, testing and reviewing products from around the world for my retail chains The Gadget Shop and RED5 with over 100 high profile UK stores and working with some of the biggest names in UK retail. I also co-founded a product development business and following that a health-tech business.

I now focus fully on having fun finding new great gear and ideas to share with you on the channel to hopefully educate and entertain.

I am joined by Jamie and we work together with the aim of producing new content each week.

Hi I'm from the USA I have several victorinox models from the 111 mm 291 mm to 85 mm 58 mm I also own several Leatherman but I wish that victorinox would get back to the core of what they're doing I understand they're a business and they have to expand in the preparedness community this is a inexpensive most of the time option for the everyday man to have an everyday carry tool

You always give the run time of Rovyvon moon light mode but never at 650 lumens, I'm pretty sure there's an undisclosed interest here. That's a shame because you're good.

You don't have a puncture kit in it. Funny. No tire removal tools no jack. You've got so many lights in the kit. What are you using those lights if you're not trying to fix anything.

What I can't understand about the Companion is why they haven't also just released it with the typical red scales, no extra fluff for around 30-40 GBP? When I saw the toolset (I carry a Climber everyday myself) I'd have jumped at the chance to buy a Companion. I'm cutting open boxes everyday and the nail file would be of much more use to me than the extra small blade (the one I use for cutting open boxes). I also like the corkscrew tool. I've never needed to use it for its actual purpose (only helping with knots and things) but the last place I want to be in is having a bottle of wine maybe with some friends just out and about, and the bottle that was just bought is sealed with a cork. The cool colours on the Companion are actually quite nice, albeit not really my thing, but I'd happily carry one of them around for the added usefulness over a Climber. When I saw the price though, hell no. It's frustrating because, as a woman, the language used for advertising and the high cost with the extra accessories just seems so pandering and almost as though the only reason I would ever consider buying a knife is if it fits into my silly, pretty little lifestyle. No, I need a tool to open bottles, trim my nails, cut open packaging and chop up the occasional apple like anyone else.

I think your idea of offering SA knives with a higher quality blade steel is excellent. For the small Classic SD Alox I carry, I would happily pay an additional $12 for steel that stays sharper longer (i.e., $46 vs $34). I am sure many SA knife users feel the same.

What about a concrete mixer some hardcore, sand and cement and a couple of steel RSJs? Essential if a bridge has collapsed and you need to rebuild it.

Can you compare the recently released Harbor Freight Leatherman killer, made by Gordon for approximately $40 in the US. It’s nearly identical to the leatherman.

If Victorinox did a classic small size tool without a knife - just scissors and a file/screwdriver, plus the usual scale tools - I’d buy several! To me a knife is not essential (and I’m in the UK) but scissors most definitely are! I do have the Jetsetter but there aren’t a lot of other options …

Colors can be deceiving through different lenses and screens, so can you please tell us how the face of the watch really looks in person? In the pictures from luminox make it look more like a nice subdued tan, similar to the common military color Flat Dark Earth, but in your video it looks much lighter and I think yellower, and frankly not as appealing. I was thinking hard about getting this watch to replace my 0320 luminox while also complimenting my garmin instinct tactical (I think we must have similar taste), as I like to wear both, one on each wrist. Please let us know!

I use an Altoids/ Swiss herbal sweets tin to store my remote electronic car key fob and two house keys, a perfect Faraday cage. I tested it by entering the car as normal, putting the keys in the tin and the car immediately gave a 'no key' warning. Keep in a pocket or on a hall stand.

SAKs are one of the most commonly customised tools, modders will easily free you of £200+ to customise your SAK. - Spydernox anyone??? - this mod has been common for YEARS, its extremely well known, yet Victorinox has failed to take heed! Im lucky enough to possess skills to add a dragonfly blade - making the Victorinox easy to open one handed, with a better blade. How is a company, that still has a cockscrew on their tool, listening to their fans?

Customers who have been purchasing the brand are not limp wristed and don’t give two $hits about matching with their outfit for the day. Take a look at the marketing department and you will find 20 something kids with a desire to cater to all things weak and woke.

I would recommend getting an "electrician cutter and stripper" something similar to the Nemiq CC 22 ( I use the bahco version) you can strip or remove the mantle from any cable or wire regardless of size (for household obviously) and you can cut wires and thick cables very easily, they are also small and obviously a combination tool, I use mine everyday and they last forever as long as you cut copper and aluminium and such with them. as a tradesperson, the big sidecutters I never use ever, the small electronic / circuitboard cutters from Knipex that I also own are very useful because you will get flat against a surface with them and it will leave no sharp edge behind on whatever you cut, such as zipties. The big sidecutters are useful for nails, fencewire and that kind of thing but you already have boltcutters for that. So If space is an issue I would get rid of the sidecutter for sure seeing as they also weigh so much. If space is not an issue, add the CC 22 as they are so versatile, slim and low in weight.
