High porosity hair is having your hair dry out on your before you even finish styling 😑 this has been my struggle after relaxers. I've been natural for 4 years and still getting used to my new texture/porosity. The spray bottle is my best friend!!!

My mom did relaxers on me from the ages of 6 to 11! 😱 my hair is high porosity and has been for so long. Tell you what though, my hair has been doing soooo well with coconut oil and avocado oil too.

High porosity hair is such a struggle and I feel like most youtubers are all low porosity or they don’t know. Everyone works on hair type but everyone has a different definition for each type I feel like porosity matters way more.

I have high porosity hair and find that heavy butters are a no, no for me. If I were to seal with a heavy butter on wash day my hair will not be able to absorb anything else throughout the week. I made that mistake and had to wash my hair mid week to get rid of the residue. Vegetable Glycerine and Rhassoul Clay has been a game changer plus I do the Greenhouse method which keeps my hair hydrated throughout the day. I no longer wash my hair weekly just so my hair can maintain moisture for longer.

Butters are your best friend when your high porosity.....Shea butter and castor oil are my besty......Cantu is lit for high porosity thick hair.....there leave in, mask coconut curling cream, creamy hair lotion.....really love it....it's affordable and works great 4 high porosity.....Cantu get some hate but I don't no why.

I have high porosity hair that I find easy to keep hydrated the key is layering products LCOS works best with S being a styler ie heavy gel. Staying away from heavy humectants such as Glycerin is key because you will end up with hair that looks and acts like cotton candy in high dew points. So that pretty much means no to Cantu products. I recommend Oyin Hair Dew, any/all Smooth Natural products( slept on company one of the best HG status) Curl Junkie Beauty Curls, Creme Brûlée by Beja Flora is amazing buttery cream, Aloe Vera juice mixed with water in a spray bottle to close down the cuticle( girl bye with the too cold for me water rinse in the shower) also use to keep hair wet during styling. Love natural hair gels but can leave me looking like a dandy lion due to high humectants. Swear by clay treatments to pop and elongate curls DYI works well but don’t sleep on Sorenzo, Soultanicals clay wash/conditioners. D/C with each wash alt moisturizing vs protein conditioners for balance think SM Manuka, CR Coconut Water, CR Holiday Collection , Bobeam Condish (slept on get you some) Miche DC, vs SM High Porosity DC,SM Sacha Inchi DC,Mielle Babassu DC, Sorenzo Pumpkin DC, Eva Nye DC. Oils and butter to seal. Butters I love such as CC Naturals, Sorenzo creamy oil, Koils by Nature . SN Perfect Moisture LI conditioner and hair milk are a must have!!!! Common thread is LI creams and milks have NO GLYCERIN hard hold gels will have glycerine to keep the gel playable. Layering with a light to med hand is key!!! I go heavy with the gel with Wet Line Extreme as a favorite! So yep high porosity hair takes wrk but I typical do not have issue with dryness my fight is keeping atmospheric moisture out 😠

Virginia Claiborne ok thanks 4 the info....yeah my hair does end up looking like cotton candy wen I come to think of it....But I never really thought much of it....I was finding it hard to work out if humactunts was good for high porosity hair....I thought it keeps moisture in, which is what I need as my hair is dryer than the Sahara desert.... literally after wash day the very next day all the moisture has nearly evaporated out of my hair.....And I have to remoisturise my hair again. never used to be that bad....I was medium porosity before all the heat and color damage..... But my hair is so damaged now. I still think cantu works great for my hair....but maybe I need to change...it's just I can't really afford the products you mentioned out of my price range..... Natural hair products are so expensive.....I don't live in the states either wer you might get it cheaper. I use Locs.

Browndigs69. I used to use different creams and none of them hold a candle to Blue magic Coconut grease and I mix it with oil and stir. I can't use butters on my hair but they are great on my skin. I use a little on my scalp after shampooing and just a touch on damp hair. I also use La Looks gel diluted with water. These are cheap items that work for me. Yes, petrolatum still works just use a light hand.

The only thing that actually maintains moisture for me is using a concoction I came up with - body lotion mixed with glycerin. I apply it to wet hair, detangle and then scrunch up the curls to get the pattern how I like it. Air dry and you're good to go. This doesn't feel heavy or greasy and it keeps friz at bay for the day. I have high porosity color and heat damaged 3C hair and this is the only thing that works perfectly for me. Try it out and see how it works for you.

Its so good to see all these high porosity haired ladies, heeeeyyyyy lol. With my high porosity hair deep conditioners with protein is a MUST, if it doesn't have protein I can't use it, it will feel like I didn't even deep condition😒 camille rose products are AMAZING feels my hair so soft and moisturized for dayzzz. I don't use oil on my hair because its already oils in the products I use, plus I have fine strands so adding oil would probably weigh my hair down. The bask and bloom products are good too.

I would say use the products with a very light hand!

Rym A I would say try to find a lighter oil that works with your hair. You're probably going to have to replenish the moisture at some point during the week so go for something that's not going to weigh your hair down.

Not sure if you found a solution...but I have high porosity, fine but dense hair and I can’t use heavy products either. My hair loves Kinky Curly Knot Today as a leave in, almond oil which is light, and gels work better for me. Glycerin is NOT my friend in a styler (I live in a humid climate) so I found Uncle Funky’s Daughter Curly Stimulator and Jessicurl Spiralicious gels are good for me. I’ve never had luck with creams, even lighter ones. I’m guessing because they usually have glycerin, but maybe you can tolerate a lighter one.

Yes, you can get protein overload. You have to give your hair time to recover when that happens

hair density can also determine which products are best for your hair so I’d say listen to your stylist and their advice. Especially because they have seen your hair

  • @LydiaTefera

Maybe incorporate it in your deep conditioning routine! That way you won’t have to keep it on your hair for and extended period of time. And maybe using an oil spray might help as well that way you’re only putting it on the areas of your hair that need it. Also make sure you are tying up your hair when you’re at home so it’s not laying on your face. I hope that kinda helps!

Tanya Lee I know this is old, but consider oil cleasning every night. I have extremely oily skin and since I've been oil cleansing my face isn't oily like it would normally be. I also don't have to check my face throughout the day anymore to blot it. Coconut oil and tea tree mixed together.

So I have a question about hair porosity, I just tried to find out my hair porosity but putting a strand of hair in water and waited for 5 minutes... at 3 minutes parts of my hair strand was floating to the top but when I lightly touched my strand it went down to the bottom automatically, does that consider me as a high hair porosity girl?

I have fine hair yet extremely high porosity hair and am still trying to find the magic formula (hence why I’m on this video) but I have found great results by using the Cantu Coconut cream (as shown in video) on my wet hair and sealing it while wet with Africa’s Best [Herbal Afro Super] Hair & Scalp Conditioner or Castor Oil Hair & Scalp Conditioner. This combo helps define the curl while also sealing in the moisture. Just something to consider in your regimen.
