When she says the Scottish accent is classless, she means it's hard for the English to determine if the person speaking is high class or low class. She is not saying the accent isn't classy.

I remember someday when I was about 17, we were on holiday at my grandmothers house. My mum found some weed in the room were I was sleeping and freaked out. She shouted at me and didn't give me a chance to say anything. My grandmother came into the room, starred at the bag of weed, grabbed it and said "Well honey, calm down, that's mine." After a bit of arguing with my mum (her daughter), my mum had to apologise to me. My mum left the room and my grandmother gave me a little smirk and said "I know it, you know it... We don't need to talk about it. Now give my some of 'my' papers. I have this certain feeling, that you will do the gardening work instead of me and I will have a very relaxed day." 😂😂 RIP granny, I will always love you.❤️ Now my son is 17 and whenever he's doing some stupid things, I try to remember this smirk my granny gave me this day. What I'm trying to say is... When you're older, don't forget that you have been young too. When you're young, no matter what you do... be aware that you are not the first driving down this road 😉

If you are referring to her potty mouth I am sure that there are many entertainment figures Who didn’t go to Oxbridge who also “get away with it”. @@mogulmeister OK. So you don't find wishing somebody serious harm and then death to be offensive. In that case, what do you find offensive, if anything? Of course, being offensive isn't only the preserve of the privileged. But if you don't have the right connections, you're more likely to fall foul of the authorities. There have been a couple of cases recently, of comedians having action taken against them. Simply for making jokes, which pale in comparison, to those made by Miss Margoyles. As for her "potty mouth", you obviously don't know the meaning of the term. To enlighten you, it refers to using bad language. Wishing someone severe bodily harm and death in an ad hominem attack, goes far beyond the use of a few generalised swear words. Nobody "struggles" at Cambridge, and anyway, is that an excuse for her reprehensible behaviour, in this case? If you manage to get to Oxford or Cambridge, you've already made it. All the right doors are open and waiting for you. The Footlights is just a side line outside their studies for those who are dramatically inclined.

In it she toured the States meeting people from all walks of life, with some comedic moments and some less comedic and some poignant. The visit that physically moved her, and was spine chilling, was when she visited a convicted murderer awaiting execution on death row. The interview left her physically moved especially when she walked out of the Prison. Powerful television! BBC at its best. Might be worth a web search to see if it can be seen on line. Ms Margolyes (pronounced Marg-o-liz) is an Oxbridge woman who has acted all the way from her 70s Japanese movie voiceovers to being Prof Sprout in Harry Potter. I remember her in Scorsese's Age of Innocence, for which she got a BAFTA award. She was awareded the OBE too, but also got awards for such works as Little Dorrit, Christmas Carol, Oliver Twist, Wicked, etc. She's probably the most well known Dickensian actress of her generation. Her ancestors were Jews from Tsarist Russia, and lots of her humour is typical of Yiddish kitchen humour. She is greatly loved in her second home, Australia.

This made me laugh so so much. I love Miriam and I’ve seen all these interviews before but it was much funnier with these two American guys watching, I can only assume American tv is much more filtered than here in the UK. She is hilariously crude and entertaining but it’s really because she’s posh and educated, most people don’t sound like that here, she is relatable to ordinary people and I think that’s why she is so popular. She is of course, tremendously talented too.

Glad you've finally 'met' the utter legend that is Miriam Margolyes! And yes, there are more clips of her on this show. In fact, pretty much anything on the Graham Norton Show is gold - he's probably the top talk show host we have in the UK. All the most famous celebrities love being on it, because he treats the whole thing like a party, where all the guests sit on the sofa together and chat with each other. Graham balances it all perfectly; unlike many other chat show hosts, he's happy to step back and let the guests be the stars, by dropping a (VERY well-researched) nugget of info about each star and then letting them riff on that with all the other guests.
