one of the things i like about Iono, just before you start the battle someone in the audience "super chats" her more then she gives you for winning.

As a past victim of bullying the team star bosses I found interesting and hope we see more of them in the dlc and learn more of their backgrounds prior to team star

I love the characters so much, they have grown on me so much. I think all the great animations online, and the (terrible) voices we give them just made me fall in with their characters and storylines. I’m so glad other people enjoy these characters as much as I am.

I'm just a white gal from the US but I still appreciate you being respectful of Romani people and their culture. I feel like I see so many people openly bigoted towards them, and it was nice to see some actual respectful discussion! Wonderful video as always!

I get the feeling that Giacomo is basically Team Star's second in command, the de facto leader in Penny's absence. Even though Team Star's power structure seems informal and egalitarian by design, he's the one the other bosses look to for writing their code of conduct. And it's also his phone that Penny calls in order to address the entire group.

This may surprise people, but I actually hate the fact that trainer battles are forced on players prior to gen 9, simply because it blocks progress and gets really tedious if there’s too many throughout a single route.

These games’ story really resonate with me… I don’t care about all the graphic errors and such when the story is so captivating, and what makes it that way is the characters… As someone who was bullied in their childhood, as someone who has done everything in my power to save a loved pet and couldn’t, and as someone who has had Pokémon as one of my main interests for 25 years and keeps getting excited with every new generation that comes out, even at 32, this is one closest to my heart!

Yeah you deserve the Poketuber Rookie of the Year award. Cayla's capsule took the award last year you get it this year.

I think you took the wrong message from Larry. Larry prefers his Normal team over his Flying team. Geeta forced him to use a different team than his normal team because "Normal types aren't enough of a challenge for the Elite 4," something that he criticizes her for since Geeta is part of the reason why Larry feels so overworked and stressed out, since he's forced to be an Elite 4 member in addition to his Gym Leader job and his other office job (Not to mention that other Gym Leaders have complained about Geeta running the Pokemon League like a business and being a bad, micromanaging boss who constantly subjects the gyms to inspections). He only picked Flying because then he could still use his Staraptor. Larry likes simplicity and is a realist. In an age of power creep and ever elaborate gimmicks and type combos, Larry takes the opposite approach of going with something simple and uncomplicated.

No, Larry isn't forced to use another team "My boss *asked* me to use a different type". While he is reluctant to not use the type he is comfortable with, he ultimately choose the flying type himself. In the DLC (something you couldn't have known when you wrote your comment) it is even mentioned how Geeta begs Larry to work less.

i feel like the teachers get pretty overlooked sometimes too (warning: wall of text ahead!!!) Saguaro's "tough guy, huge softie" act is actually done in a surprisingly refreshing way, and the way he seems to care about Arven is really sweet. Jacq is enthusiastic to the point of becoming scatterbrained and that's something i understand entirely. he's super fixated on biology and i feel like with the disappearance of Prof. Sada/Turo i feel like he would make an excellent regional professor. Miriam is a hardworking young woman with a dream to truly become a teacher. in a similar way to Jacq, she's very dedicated and really enjoys what she does, which is a great break from the whole "tired, disillusioned teacher" trope. Dendra's desire to make people happy drives her to learn to cook, and even if she isn't the best at it, she continues until her sandwiches are incredible. her friendship with Tulip is a surprising little throwaway fact, but it would be cool to see more of it! Salvatore doesn't seem to know much about Pokemon at the start, but his fascination with the language they speak helps him care for a distressed Pokemon. he turns to his fellow teachers for help, which goes to show how much he values relationships. Tyme is a very motherly figure, and is willing to assist her students in any way she can. she tries to make her classes interesting, knowing that many find math difficult. her relationship with her sister is another one of those things i would love to see more of. to be entirely honest, i'm not the biggest fan of Raifort, mainly due to having many teachers similar to her that i never quite got along with.

Tyme, supporting her students any way she can? She strikes me as the sort to punish any student who shows any sort of strong emotion, the way she punishes Hassel and Clavell.

Something interesting is that Katy has a super well endowed design and this is a very clever design choice made on purpose to make her reference insects with segmented bodies (like ants or wasps for example). Which is pretty cool. By the way, I'd argue that Tulip is far more Egyptian coded than Geeta by a wide margin. Even her gym design and the use of the image of the original pokemon games sprites in the walls seems to have an egyptian inspired aesthetic (kinda like hyeroglypfics). Not to mention that makeup was also a huge part of egyptian culture, specially when it comes to important figures/leaders of their society. Also, Geeta´s team is meant to represent the areas of Paldea: Espathra - Represents the desserts. Gogoat - Represents the grasslands. Veluza - Represents the bodies of water in Paldea. Avalug - Represents the cold mountains. Kingambit - Represents the northwestern bamboo forest. Glimmora - Represents the caves and Area Zero. And its position as the last pokemon was probably meant to confuse the player about its type (since it can easily be confused with a grass, psychic or even dark type) in an attempt to force them to switch pokemon. Specially considering that is a very late game pokemon, so the idea was probably to force the player to switch to a pokemon that they would think could work against any of those types. Also, Geeta´s clothes are meant be like a girl horse rider outfit (due to the whole exploration aspect of the game and the box legendaries being wheeled vehicles that we ride).

I would argue the Gogoat was probably not the best to represent grasslands. As Sawsbuck in spring version would probably fit more. Gogoats are only found in mountainous areas or foothills. Plus Sawsbuck gets Sap Sipper and with the normal type is immune to ghost adding a great stall to both grass starter and Ghosts like the new crueledge.

This game has the best characters in the WHOLE series and that makes the game even Better, best game since Black and White

What a truly excellent video. I love how you notice the details in the characters. Geeta, in specific, is a bit of an obsession for me, because she is, in a sense, underwhelming, but the way she is portrayed is very clear. She takes her position as la Primera very seriously, she's very well put together and very deliberate in her words and expressions. We learn very little about her and that is obvious. The small cracks we see from her are if we crit one of her pokemon, where she almost starts to say something before reminding herself to be proper and her clear frustration with Larry's unenthusiasm. Her ace being a pokemon that can only be found in the post-game area described as "dangerous" and "off-limits" is also a very deliberate choice, which Nemona even draws attention to when you first encounter a Glimmora in Area Zero. I doubt we will learn more about her, which is a bit of a shane, because design-wise I love her so much. I also think it's fair to assume that her team being rather strange is intentional. I like to think that these pokemon are the ones she herself caught and befriended during her own treasure hunt all those years ago.

wait, Glimmora is supposed to be a post-game only? i found a Glimmet in the caves at the bottom of snow/mountain region after only battling from Katy up to Iono. it's evolved since and it's now a permanent member of my team.

@@radio_cooking_ghost Glimmet is indeed available in other caves as a rarer spawn, but Glimmora can only be caught inside the Crater and it's pokedex entry mention it eating the Terastalize crystals which is why it's considered a mysterious pokemon.

I need this with every generation!

I still think Penny and Iono are related. They've got so many weird similarities in aesthetic and opposing personalities, which just screams relation.

I'm surprised you didn't use as much detail with the Elite Four, and didn't really talk about the teachers

While I do like Gen 8's gym leaders, Larry and Iono are my favorite characters. Also a shame I missed the themed rooms of Gen 5 with the Elite 4. Shauntel the ghost writer, marshall the fighting legend, Grimsley the dark type gambler, and finally Caitlin the sleeping psychic. Personality was there in everything around them. Gen 7 and 8 didn't have a traditional Elite 4 as they were rematches but Gen 9 really missed an opportunity to use the office building to it's advantages with themed rooms. Rika would be the first basic one, Larry a restaurant or lounge with a view, poppy would have children's toys all made out of metals and the dragon trainer would have an old school tapestry room depicting legendary dragon Pokemon ( and a Drayden and Iris'Easter egg if possible). It would have been cool with themed rooms.

I got an audio bug in the game where the Elite Four and Champion music looped only the first 5 seconds or so, and it really soured my opinion of all of them. The fact that you fight the E4 all in the same room, and the fact that Geeta is a really easy fight, hurt my thoughts of them even further. It's only recently in Pokemon Masters when I pulled Geeta, and got to hear her theme a lot more, that I gained an appreciation for her specifically. Her design is solid, and her Glimmora definitely hints that she knows more about Area Zero than it seems. I haven't played the DLC yet but I would not be surprised if Geeta plays a big role.

It's such a missed opportunity that Rhyme's challenge didn't have a freestyle competition that just played as a Parappa the Rapper styled rhythm minigame.

If it were easier for the average player to mod the switch it would be cool to see what upgrades and changes the community could make to the game. If they switched geeta's team around a little it could change the ease of it. You did open my eyes to her origin and that made me like her a lot more. I did love the characters a lot in this game despite the bugs. I wish we could have gone inside the buildings and spoke to more npcs. The story was really good and all i would have liked is scaling gyms because it would fit an open world more. If only they had been given more time to develop...that seems to be the root issue of all the things we would have liked improved.

We’re just Nemona’s DLC Edit: also Tulip sounded VERY corporate to me, like a Devil Wears Prada fashion CEO. Which was pretty cool

The main characters were interesting enough... But I think there's a reason they made trainer battles optional. Half of them look like the exact same girl with the bushiest eyebrows, an ancient geezer still attending school???, or one of the many (nondescript humanoid) entities. The martial artists and dragon trainers are cool... That's about it.

Geeta looks great, but I hope in one of the DLC we can take her on but with her using a new team where she can actually go all out instead of using her League team

The fact game freak improve the lore of pokemon and the characters are probably the best upgrade since a long time: they're relatable for some players (I like Brassius cuz I like creating/dra ning things but sometimes I have a lack of inspiration. His relationship with Hassel remind me the one I have with my best friend who was here when I took my first huge Deception). Katy look obese and Iono look like a Chica Vampire but the other characters are very catchy. In the 9G my favorite character is Drayton. It's the first time an antagonist team are so relatable and understandable: a lot of people are bullied and I can feel how it's hard to live: I was one of them and I took my revenge just in becoming better than those who harass me (some of them are probably jobless now or their life sucks). But nobody should forgot bully are probably bullied too (or they have issues who turn them as they're). If the graphisms aren't perfect, at least fame freak Tru to give to their pokemon game some reality-based events and I say respect for that

Fun fact, shes called Enigmara in the german version, it's rare that german versions are closer to the japanese than to the american one.

One thing I like with characters is that at least in my head canon is that they are all in college. I mean the school is essentially a college and I think it’s probably the age of the characters. I mean comparing heights it makes sense

This. I don't really like all the complaints about geeta because its obvious why shes so easy. shes not the final battle, Sada or Turo are. And I like this. I hope future pokemon games take a story direction like this. the "evil team wants to destroy the world for reasons and they're using box legendary to do it" plotlines where getting old. I also love how the handled nemona and I don't want to see another "edgy 12 year old insults you and runs away every time you beat them" rival ever again. they're obnoxious. Nemona is an actual character. Also someone start a gofundme for arvens therapy bills.

Geeta strikes me as being Indian. A Romani character would be awesome but it just feels like she's not it. And no, her being a weak champion so Nemona can shine doesn't make her role make any sense.
