Messi has won the #WorldCup. And no, he didn't do it on his own, but it certainly ends all debates 🐐 Let me give you some quick impressions from the stadium 🏟

When you paused for about 5 seconds at 1:45, I could see it was just sinking in for you that Messi had finally done it, what we've all wanted him to do, win the World Cup, and the smile on your face said it all. Sums up how all true fans of the beautiful game are feeling tonight. So richly deserved.

I remember Nov 19, 1989 when T&T lost to USA 0-1 in the final qualifier for Italia '90... I've watched every world cup since USA '94 and have since been following Argentina (because Batistuta) and Italy (because Maldini (& later Cannavaro.)) I remember the Escobar own goal... Pep and Enrique for Spain... Campos, literally the most colourful goalie ever.. Valderrama's hair... Klinsmann, Romario, Figo, Hassan Sas of Turkey. I remember Croatia placing 3rd in their 1st WC. I remember the days of the Golden Goal... when players had no visible tattoos... the days of referee Collina. I remember the joy and pride in my little twin island nation when we beat Bahrain to became the smallest country ever (until Iceland) to qualify for the World Cup in 2006. I remember we held Sweden & the Zlatan to a 0-0 draw in our first game. I remember Crouch pulling Sancho's dreads as he climbed for the header as England beat us 1-0. I remember I cried in work when my beloved Italy finally won the cup (The boss let us keep the TV up even though we were eliminated in the group stage) My dad was a football fan too and I remember him explaining offside and other aspects of the game to me in the early 90's... he passed in Aug 2006 but we both got to witness the outgoing Maradona and the incoming Messi. Messi was the reason I started watching club football. As my Italian favourites retired, I became all for Barca and Arg. I remember Iniesta winning it for Spain in 2010. And I will remember this World Cup 2022 for the incredible emotional rollercoaster that it was as I watched Messi lead his team to this day. This final. Against this France team. One of the best matches I've seen. I kept worrying that France would pounce late and they did. I kept hearing my neighbours yelling and screaming a split second before my tv showed me why. I've always hated the penalty shootouts btw. But finally... finally this Argentinian team can silence the Messi naysayers who rate a player on specific trophies won and not skill, elegance, versatility, vision, presence and stats combined. I will remember this day, when Lionel Messi lifted the World Cup. "A thing of beauty is a joy forever." - John Keats P.S. Thanks again Guillem and safe travels!

@@markperez4980 well kind of. There are plenty of crap holes in the world and plenty of countries that do bad things. I'd love all of them to change and be nice places to it's gay, female, migrant citizens. But the harsh reality is these places will take decades to improve to the standards set by places like Norway or new Zealand or Canada. So untill then it's very important that places with crap human rights records arnt rewarded with things like hosting a world cup. Qatar has loved all the attention and so now hopefully we can go back to ignoring them on the world stage untill they sort them selves out and stop treating people like crap. For example I'm disgusted with how Iran is currently treating it's citizens, I hope things change there. So let's definitely not award them hosting rights for the next Olympics. Not untill they fix there crappy ways. Does that make sense?

Delighted for Messi and Argentina. Great final, but I don't agree with the 'greatest ever' claims. A final that was boring and one sided for 80 minutes cannot be considered the greatest ever

I agree. If France had gone out we would have said how terrible they were. VAR and penalties have had too much of an influence on this World Cup. I feel conflicted as I'm glad for Messi but De Paul has and other Argentinian players have been shocking with their cheating.
