I recommend asking family members first. Those camera's have a special place and are basically a piece of history. I recently was looking for one since I'm going on a school trip to Berlin (I study photographie and filmmaking). I asked my uncle and he had an olympus 105 mju for me which is just awesome. Great work Teo, you have helped me a lot in my photographie and filmmaking journey.

My dad gave me his Canon A-1 he bought when he was 14. This Camera has seen many places around the world and most inportantly has seen my father grow up. When I hold this camera in my hand, it's like a gentle hug from him. I tried other analogue cameras but this one feels like home.

Zenits are just amazing. Ever since I found your channel I started using again my Zenit 12xp I got passed from my dad. I was surprised even the light meter works, it's an absolute tank that I've taken everywhere, they don't have many shutter speeds but are super reliable and robust, mine being from the era where they didn't use a single piece of plastic, I even got a telephoto lens for it.

Olympus OM10 is excellent beginners slr camera because it works semi auto and chooses the shutter speed depending on your aperture and the available lighting. Still have mine today and still works. The Zuiko lenses are top notch.

I have the Fujica ST801. Wonderful camera that I got for about £50, it needed light seals replacing but it's been my favourite photography tool. M42 lenses are really cheap too so you have a nice choice of Helios, Zeiss, Contax, Pentacon and Fujinon lenses to choose from that also go for cheap. It has a max shutter speed of 2000/1 as well! My point and shoot is a Fuji DL270 and now have a Pentax Espio 90MC as well which I'll test soon. Also a Canon CanonetQL19 rangefinder that I should really use more. Next step for me is to find a nice medium format

the canon ae-1 is my first camera & I can highly recommend it! i got mine for about 100€ with minor flaws but working lightmeter etc. i love the formfactor & weight distrubution when a lens is attached. since I‘m comming from a filmmaking background i also really love the lens selection on the FD mount. another camera i can recommend is the fujica st801. the internal lightmeter does not show specific settings on what to choose to expose correctly but instead shows if it‘s to darf or bright - a great way to learn exposing in my oppinion! it‘s just a timy bit heavier then the ae-1, but if i wouldn‘t hold them side by side i wouldn‘t notice it. great video as always teo, much love🫶

Canon Rebel G is an SLR that you can basically use as a point and shoot. It has all the automatic modes, but you can also shoot manual and change lenses. It also has an EF mount, so you can use newer lenses. Got mine in great condition of facebook marketplace for 50€ and I’m really happy with it.

I’ve (re)started analog photography last year with my dad‘s Nikkormat and from all cameras I’ve since bought it’s by far the best I own. The experience I’ve made on the private second hand market ist the following: buying in bulk is worth it. I’ve had my eye on 2-3 SLRs and found them in different bulks for really cheap. I’ve since resold most of the unneeded equipment on eBay and have made great profit with that. The financial risk is minimal.

the first time when i thought about film photography i bought a kiev-19 from local ebay analog for only $8 (cheaper than a hp5+ roll), and a helios-81h lense for about $20, which can also be used on my nikon dlsr (because this camera has nikon mounth, but this is another story). And i didnt think if its good or not, i just started to shoot. Its sooo satisfying to wind the shutter and shoot a photo, understanding that you just exposed that little piece of film inside this metal box. feeling this mechanisms under my fingers is better than any fidget toys unfortunatly, my granddad (prof photographer in past) sold his gear collection long before i even tried digital photography (i remember me as a child playing with halsseblad film back, not knowing what it is). i wish i could got his cameras now

Just a Little tip from someone who ones an AE-1. If you are looking to buy this type of camera from someone private, look the battery up witch that specific camera needs and buy is before the camera so that you can test it. Otherwise you might make the same mistake I did and buy the cam only to find out that the electrtronics are broken.

the electronic slrs from the late 80s and 90s may also be a very good choice for beginners, especially when you have used a digital slr beforehand. there are a lot of options from canon, nikon and minolta, most of the newer canon film slrs even use the ef lens mount. they are usually very overlooked and therefore pretty affordable, i can recommend the nikon f601 or the nikon f801 (i believe it is called the nikon 8008 in the us) and the canon eos elan 7, they are great cameras. another thing i would like to mention is that you should not go completely overboard and buy a ridiculously expensive camera as your first camera (like a leica m6 or contax t2 for example) since every "pro" photographer has one, it will not make your photos look better. sure, it may motivate you in taking more pictures, but first of all you should decide if you even like the process of shooting film, or else your fancy leica will just act as a 5000€ paperweight on your desk. invest in different film stocks and experiment with different scanning methods (home scanning, negative lab pro for lightroom) and try to find YOUR style :)

I currently have 2 SLRS and i think they are incredibly fun to shoot with, one i bought off facebook marketplace and unfortunately the shutter speeds were incredibly inconsistent. The second one my newer one i bought off of Ebay and the only reason i did was because of the incredible ratings they had. It works amazingly and im kinda now interested in getting a point and shoot!

User of the AE-1 & AE-1 Program. Both excellent cameras when I first started shooting film and even now I still go back to them. Also recently picked up the Olympus XA-1 in Japan, only shot a few rolls so far but it's an excellent camera, according to the Oji-san that was selling me the camera said, optically it's sharper than the second and third iterations. And lastly, as for brand new cameras on the market, I do believe Pentax should be releasing their new film cameras this year or next year. So they'll be interesting to see once we get a look at price and specs.

Hmmm I’m thinking about, what I would suggest, if somebody ask me. It’s a very personal depending question. I had just rudimentary knowledge, about photography with film. Thanks my grandpa, I’ve learned in a young age, how to operate a fully manuell camera without integrated light meter. So I startet also with a fully manuell camera, you even need to guess the range/focus. So it’s all about the person, who ask.

I ended up buying a Pentax K1000 which I adore, albeit its from the era it was manufactured in mainland China and the build quality apparently went down compared to the ones manufactured in Japan. I also ended up getting a Fuji STX-2 (with 2 lenses for £60!) for my collection and I hope to compare both of them and choose one as my main and one as a backup. With STX-2 compared to K1000 is that on X-Fujinon X-bayonet mount and adapter to M42 just... Works? Unlike the Pentax PK mount where you need to make sure you get one with a flange to actually manually adjust the aperture (iirc) Hoping to also purchase one point-and-shoot... But unsure what to look for in one?

I recommend EBay in Germany. They’re I bought canon AE-1 with flash, 70-210mm, 28mm, case only for 80€. The same Minolta x-700 with second objection, tripod, 75-200 😂 it cost me like 85€. So look for that there

Hello there! I'm looking for help lmao. Basicly i'm shooting ballet at night so i need high ISO, high apperture and ofc high speed (1/300 minimum) wich is a problem at night... I know ISO are on the film i choose, apperture is on the lens but i have no ideas hos the speed works on film camera. And, ofc most lenses are f4, if i'm lucky f3.5 wich is not enouth for what i want. I still have the option of using a flash but it's not really the look i want to have. So, my question is quite simple, how to get this result without a f1.4 lens? (Cuz too hard to focus, dancers are mouving so f1.4 manual isn't an option, f2 eather). Thanks, hope you have an idea haha.

Hey, I loved the explanation. Can you tell me if the video you recorded in this clip was shot with the Sony A7II? Additionally, is the color grading or preset you applied(used in this video) included in your Patreon? I am considering subscribing, and I'd like to know more about the content available on your Patreon. One more thing, can you suggest a camera and lens for me? I'll be joining university in Germany and traveling as well so i need a camera which i can take anywhere. I am completely new to photography and videography, and I need a camera that can handle both, preferably under 500 euros (used). I would really appreciate your help

Praktica L2 is a simple and practical box for film exposure. It doesn't have light meter, it doesn't have timer, but it does feature 1/1000sec shutter speed and M42 mount - it's a perfect tool for practice. But I don't recommend it, don't buy it, buy something else like Nikon F65 or Canon EOS 3000.

I'd highly recommend the Kodak H35N, Simple easy to use half frame camera with a range of versatility that I think is a great fit for beginners. I just received my devs of some rolls I've shot on them and it performs amazingly for it's price range of £50ish.

How do you develop these photos? Is it possible developing yourself digitally?

I bring my finished roll of film to a lab. You can do it yourself, but I’m not that far yet. However at the lab you get the choice to get the film developed or developed and scanned. I always only take development, because the scanning I do myself. The scanning is the process of digitising your negatives to view them on a computer or phone🤝🏼

Thank you!! I’ve made a decision to buy a similar one since it’s not available on any of my local sites. I’m always keen to take photos the same kind you do since that’s what I love capturing so I think the new lens will be perfectly suited for me :)

You'll probably find a good old SLR or point and shoot film camera from an older generation family memember, who has one tucked away in a draw or cupboard. Just ask a grandparent, parent, uncles or aunts, I guarantee one will have a film camera they don't use anymore....😊

Not necessarily - camera prices are kind of random. But there are many cameras that are known to be very high quality and those tend to also be old and hence they're expensive.

Why the heck would anybody start shooting film in 2024? Cost like 15 to $30 per roll or more for the film and to have it developed. That is just insane. I have a closet full of cool film cameras and that's where they're staying.

I believe everyone has their own reasons and everyone has their own weird thing to spend their money on, which others might not agree with. For me and many others that thing is film. I optimise my process to an extent to cut costs but of course it’s still not cheap. In the end for me it comes down to the fact that I find film photography way more enjoyable than digital photography and I also prefer the results I get on film👍🏼
