Best Ever Grilled Chicken!! 🌶 Ultimate PIRI PIRI CHICKEN Tour in Portugal!

🇵🇹 Best Portuguese Sandwiches in Porto: • Portugal Street Food!!...

PORTUGAL - Welcome to Portugal and one of the best foods that everyone loves in Portuguese frango asado, or piri piri chicken as most of us know - it’s a style of marinated grilled chicken that’s served with spicy piri piri chili oil.
Most Portuguese say that the best piri piri chicken is from southern Portugal where it originates. But you’ll find it everywhere in the country and everywhere has a different style. So we’re starting the north and working our way down to the south for the best piri piri chicken tour across Portugal!
Churrasqueira Portuguesa do Amial, Porto (maps.app.goo.gl/E9G9Cryu5epsB...) - First up Porto, and thank it was great to hang out with my friends André Apolinário and Ricardo Brochado from Taste Porto for our first taste of frango piri piri.
Rio de Mel, Lisbon (maps.app.goo.gl/vNJ3SqzYVfZy4...) - We’re continuing to Lisbon, where you’ll find Portuguese grilled chicken on just about every corner. This place does it extremely well, and it’s juicy and full of flavor.
Ramires, Guia (maps.app.goo.gl/dZKMvFecLG1vS...) - Mention piri piri chicken to anyone in Portugal and they will think of the small town of Guia, and probably to Ramires, the original piri piri chicken, and what many people still say is the best in all of Portugal. I’m not going to argue, it was one of the best grilled chickens I’ve ever had - the chicken was small and crispy, and so flavorful. With the chili oil, it made it even better. The restaurant is huge, and people flock here just to eat grilled chicken.
Restaurante O Teodósio, Guia (maps.app.goo.gl/ZKXZFRzeK6Zt4...) - Just down the road in the same small town you’ll find Restaurante O Teodósio. It’s also very popular and I wanted to taste it to get some comparison.
Churrasqueira O Recife, Faro (maps.app.goo.gl/B3z1yobX2krGy...) - Finally, just down the coast is Churrasqueira O Recife where they’ve been grilling chicken unchanged for decades. The texture and doneness of the chicken is perfect, absolutely amazing.
Piri piri chicken was an incredible history and to this day it’s one of the most famous Portuguese foods that you’ll find around the world.

I'm from the 'O Teodosio' family and what you said is so true "small front shop, small humble origins", it was created by my uncle (mom's brother that passed away way too soon), the Restaurant's old part (small front side where you were waiting) was actually my grandfather's house that my uncle turned into the Restaurant and as you said; it comes from humble/poor origins. One thing I was happy to see as someone that comes from the culture is: eating with your hands (as you should), it is way tastier to eat with your hands and the right way to do it! Fun fact: I don't know if you noticed the car pictures in the waiting hall but they are from the son of the owner that races in Rally and is the current National Rally Champion.

Mark, I love your videos and have been watching your content for years. In Portugal, when you went to the restaurant "O Rei dos frangos" in the city of Guya, you didn't expect to be given a pass or to save time in the hour-long queue. You simply asked for the 10-minute 'takeaway' option and happily set off to eat your meal in the parking lot with your family. Your videos not only have great content, but your attitude and character are also very pleasant. You're super famous, you have over 10 million followers on KZread and you're probably one of the most down-to-earth people out there. Great video! Thank you Mark for several reasons: 1. This wasn't about ordering 50 plates of food and see how you can munch away as much as possible. 2. You chose humble, simple but delicious food that anyone can afford. 3. For putting, once again Portugal on the food map! I have lived in Portugal for almost 6 years, speak the language fluently, skipped only 1 year to date that I didn't visit Portugal since 1994, and it is my favourite country in terms of food (and wines, don't forget about those please). Nowadays, living in Holland again, I always go to Lisbon for my birthday and in summer for a holiday (usually the North) and in terms of food, it is very hard to beat. Sure, I go to Italy for work at least 3 times a year, and I do enjoy it there, but the Portuguese have something special. No other country I have visited, has restaurants that offer fresh grilled fish and meat every day, in simple traditional restaurants where Mum cooks and Dad serves the food. Next time you intend to visit Portugal, please consult me, because you are yet to try Porco Preto or Salchichas Frescas or Moeleas Estufados, and frankly speaking, apart from the grilled fishes, they are as much signature dishes as is the Frango Assado. Saúde Mark! Cheers!

Simple marinade (oil/olive oil, 2 or 3 smashed garlic bits, some smoked paprika powder, salt), use a gentle quantity of real wooden charcoal, let it burn for 5 to 10min, letting the flames go to extreme heat, let the charcoal loose their blackeness and then grill the chicken without any flame to do a slow grilled meat (at about one hand of distance from the heat. Keep turning the chicken peaces. Sauce during grill or after. Simple but perfect. Cheers from Lisbon

I used to eat piri2 chicken so much at Nando’s restaurant in Australia and Asia but I’ve NEVER tried pork ribs in piri2 sauce. It looked delicious and I’m JEALOUS! (drooling) 😍
