And in a scene before that one, Alicent drops some toy dragon and its wing breaks. I think those two scenes were to foreshadow a dragon's injury and a dragon's death

Alicent’s words would hit harder if she, her grandfather and the council didn’t use Aegon against his will to higher their social standing. Aegon didn’t want to be king and even as king he’s more of a puppet. Even when he protested against his son’s body being paraded around the city but even then he was powerless

Daemon is having to face his guilt for all he’s done.

i feel bad to Aegon this episode. he's simply just want to be loved. how can Aegon win, do well, or at least be okay, when this is his family? zero support. he wants to be useful, because his whole life he was told by his own parents that he was good for nothing.

It’s also sad cause he never wanted to be king. Otto had been planning for it and alicent kept telling him he’d most likely be on the throne cause he’s a man, but no one actually prepared him, they just told him he’d have to do stuff and act right. But now that he’s king he’s trying to be the king they told him he needed to be, but no one wants him to do anything. But he also still sucks

rhaeneys attacked in the hopes of injuring vagar in hopes another black dragon can finish her off. (Meleys is one of the oldest and strongest dragons) or kill her or maybe kill aemond so vhagar would be riderless and out of the picture, she is more experienced at the end of the day Meleys was too injured to have made it very far & Rhaenys would have never abandoned Meleys even for the sake of her own safety. That last look they gave before turning back to fight Vhaegar again was a mutual acknowledgement they were going down together. Makes that whole moment that much more heartbreaking. Also abandoning their Ally wouldn't leave a good message about rhaneyras claim

Rhaenys was my fave character, a true queen in my mind.. Meleys was my fave dragon.. their emotional death hit me so bad I dont even want to watch the show any more... I dont remember crying so much over a character in recent years..

Aemond speaking in high valeryian to Aegon also shows that Aegon doesn't speak the language often and isn't as well versed with it as Aemond. I will always criticize Aegon on number of things because his past actions have made him despicable in my eyes. However, I do see another layer to his character. Aegon never wanted this position, and he was forced into being king. Something I've noticed about royals in this universe is that they don't prep all their children in case something ever happens to one of them. Even though Rhaenyra was named heir, Aegon should have still been learning what goes on within a council and those within it. Despite Otto's plotting and scheming, it's unrealistic for him and Alicent to believe that Aegon would just listen and do everything they say after being crowned king. If they wanted him to take all of this seriously, then they should've had prepped him seriously and had him see the importance of wise minds/ears around him. Instead, Alicent allowed Aegon to do whatever he wanted for years without consequences. He wasn't raised as he should've been, especially by Alicent. Fast forward to this time frame, Aegon has literally surrounded himself with yes people, got rid of Otto, been ridiculed and embarrassed by Aemond and Alicent to the point where they've told him he's nothing but a figurehead with a crown. Nothing more. In ways, I actually feel sorry for him because he probably could have been a decent king if he was given the proper training beforehand and if he was more of a decent person. He actually tried to do something good when dealing w/the small folk in s2:ep1, but due to his lack of experience and that he's literally being used for others' seeking power, he's lashing out as he wants to be taken seriously, wants his opinions to matter, but he just doesn't know how to handle anything. Aemond trained and studied more than Aegon so it would make more sense that he's suitable to be king. Because of Aegon's teasing through the years, Aemond held on to a lot of that anger, frustration and somewhat hatred so, there shouldn't be any surprise about his nonchalant attitude with Aegon's status at the end. I feel like the reality of seeing the dragons fight each other is sitting in w/people after this episode. We all may have been excited to see more dragons, but it's really going to hurt seeing these dragons perish throughout the series. The creatives made an effort to show a bit more of the dragons' personality and you could clearly see the connection Meleys had with Rhaenys, even between Sunfyre and Aegon. The battle at rook's rest was just a small taste of what can happen when dragons enter the war and it's going to get messy. Yes, Vhagar's green color allows her to camouflage within the forest, especially at the right spot. Can you imagine stumbling upon her at night in a forest?! 😳

To die as a dragon rider, defending your family and what you believe in. Or be tortured/die by the enemy? In the end she knew there was only one outcome. I applaud her for going out like a champ in the end.

Wow is right. I think this was the best episode of TV I’ve ever seen.

Poor sunfyre. He just thought he was going for a ride in the sky out of the dragon pit. Melyes death was so sad too.

No matter what do you think about Cole, he raised Alicent's kids as his own. He doesn't just see Aegon as his king, he is like a son to him. And his another "son" caused a lot of harm.

WHY didn't she anticipate that the Greens could send dragons, or that it could be a trap? If Criston Cole is smarter than Rhaenyra, she can't be queen. So now I am struggling to remain Team Black.

? Rhaenyra was going to go herself so she hardly thought the Greens would risk their greatest weapon. There was no reason for the Blacks to think that the Greens would actually leave Kingslanding completely unprotected for an attack on what is essentially a small player in the game. It may sound logical to you, but it actually isn't. Vhagar should be protecting Kingslanding not being thrown into small battles for small holdings. Yes, it was a trap and effective because no one thought the Greens would take that kind of a chance. If Baila had been scouting at the time, one could argue she would have seen what was happening, and an attack on Kingslanding could have happened with Rhaenyra re-taking the throne.

what makes me sad is that Meleys last rider was Daemon and Viserys mom and her husband was Vhagar's rider

You know what I just thought of. Why the heck isn't Jon Snows hair white? Viserys had kids with Alicent who doesn't have white hair and all their children have silver hair which indicates that the male Targaryen's have the dominant gene for hair color. Jon is the son of Rhaegar Targaryen, therefore he should have the white hair.

He is also half Stark. Stark's genes are very strong. The Hightowers are a family of red heads so Alicent's children coming out with her husband's hair colour isn't farfetched. Would be interesting though if Daeron has red hair. Could be one of the reasons why he was the only child fostered away at Oldtown.

Don’t forget Aegon fought his own kids in the fighting pits and R word women … he’s not the best person lol

Sad Fact: Lord Staunton (Lord of Rook’s Rest) was an old man during the battle of Rook’s Rest and was so old in fact he most likely knew, Princess Rhaenys ever since she herself was a contender for the throne (For the mega nerds, yes he most likely voted against her.) but when his men saw Vhagar they attempted to get him to retreat into the castle. Lord Staunton refused to retreat, staying to watch as his one true queen defended him and his home to the bitter end.

Aegon is a bad guy.. he grapes women.. does hw have mommy daddy issues cuz of how he was raised? Yes, but that not an excuse to do those type of things... Such a great episode
