Clint Eastwood not only acted and directed this film, but he also composed the music score you hear for this film too! In fact, he has a hand in composing at least the theme music for most of the films he has directed. The theme music for UNFORGIVEN (Claudia's Theme) was co-composed by Eastwood, as was the theme music for BRIDGES OF MADISON COUNTY and many others. A multi-talented man he is!

What Frankie did was the ultimate act of love and compassion. He wasn't able to heal her or give his life to save her, so he did the next best thing. When a loved one dies, who really suffers? WE DO. It's a selfish love in a way. We want our loved ones to live forever so we don't have to suffer the pain of losing them. Frankie made the selfless choice. He took away Maggie's suffering and made it his own.

It's complicated, but I think I disagree. If I don't agree with assisted "self deletion", I don't think I could be okay with this, if I'm being logically consistent with my principles. But I guess there is a difference between the situation in the movie, and most assisted "self deletions". Her body wouldn't survive unassisted by the machines.. But I can't say that would sway me into thinking that it was the right choice.

Nonsense. Pure ego to think it's you who loses. Life is potential. Taking that away is a great loss. She was still depressed and couldn't imagine any potential for her future life that way. She was still in mourning. She was not in a stable mindset to make a permanent decision like that, to throw away thirty years of human life saying "zero value hereon forward," She wasn't terminal. She wasn't near the end of her natural lifespan. She had decades ahead of her and she could've adapted and found value again after resolving her mourning. Clint's character was faced with a terribly difficult decision, but he made the wrong decision. It was harder on him to force her to mourn, accept, and adapt. He should've done some tough love and told her to move and find new dreams/goals. But he was overtaken by the emotions of the situation (and he was mourning, too). He couldn't handle the guilt and discomfort of forcing her to do what she needed to do to win this fight, so he threw in the towel (for himself more than her). I am not going to say this decision was the selfish decision, but it certainly wasn't selfless.

After this one, I suspect you might be ready for something much lighter, something to keep you laughing. If I'm right, check out his comedic side in "EVERY WHICH WAY BUT LOOSE" (1978). Unforgiven and Mystic River are both Eastwood masterpieces. "Unforgiven" works even better once you've seen some of the Westerns he's starred in. That movie serves as a bit of a commentary on his career in Western movies. He doesn't star in Mystic River but he directs it and it's a great movie with a great cast. "Letters from Iwo Jima" is another great movie he directed.

Most people did not notice that there were two needle/injections in his kit at the end. The hint was that he was going to give one to himself after visiting her.

Unforgiven hands down. I’d also LOVE❤❤❤ to see Space Cowboys. It’s not the greatest movie but it’s a stop down good time for me.

Biss don’t ever apologize for feeling emotions for a movie character. That’s the whole idea for making a movie like this one. We are supposed to get angry at guy that hurt Danger, the dirty fighter that caused Maggie’s paralysis and then anger with her terrible family. Ultimately we cry and we do that because Clint Eastwood wanted us to cry.

Your reactions are beautiful - you have such a great heart, emotion and a perfect nose - don’t break it! - you get 5 Stars - Another great boxing film is “Somebody Up There Likes Me” (1956) starring Paul Newman, directed by Robert Wise.

22:50 Hey Bliss, she was taping up her arm/hand because you have to keep your off-hand up in boxing always to protect yourself. It protects your face, so it was mental training technique. This movie when it came out sparked some debates on assisted suici** and how it happened in the movie.

Yeah, i love this movie, too. 'Really love it. I think this is the best thing Clint Eastwood has ever done. I don't know if you saw it, but he also scored this film. The music is his. Clint Eastwood is a musician. He plays piano, and he's a bit of a jazz aficionado. The storyline, the script, and the remarkable acting performances; all are so exceptional. The priest had told Frankie that if he did this thing, he would be lost. His love for Magie was so strong that he was willing to sacrifice himself to stop her suffering. And then he just disappeared. I love that the narration was actually Scrap's letter to Frankie's daughter; to let her know what kind of a man he really was. This is my second favorite movie after ONE FLEW OVER THE CUCKOO'S NEST. But it's a close second. I'm glad you saw the beauty in it, too.

This movie is so hard to watch. The 2nd half is just taxing- can't swallow, sore throat and shaky chin. The movie was wonderfully produced, you can really feel a genuine bond and connection between them. Maggie was so nice and such a fighter that you feel like reaching through the screen to comfort her. Truly heart-breaking stuff.

I loved your reaction Bisscute💓💓💓💓, for me one of the best I have seen on your channel, you are so emotional and expressive, thank you for that authenticity Madalina👍👍👍. Clint Eastwood has participated in and also directed so many films, it is very difficult to choose "the best", but you cannot miss: Unforgiven, Absolute Power and the Mule and as director: Mistic River and the Sniper

Unforgiven is Eastwood's best film. Period. He directed and starred in it and it won Best Picture at the Academy Awards and deserved it--- 100%. Grand Tourino is a close second.

I knew this one would be a hit... it's a real gut punch too. Puns aside, it's a top tier movie even if you're not into boxing. Speaking of that, I love that maybe a year ago, Biss wasn't enthused about watching a boxing movie (Cinderella Man); now with that, the Rocky movies, and finally Million Dollar Baby, Biss is super excited and fully immersed. Great reaction. Dirty Harry is an old-school classic police action-thriller starring Eastwood in the titular role, and the Man With No Name trilogy (The Good The Bad & The Ugly, For a Few Dollars More, A Fistful of Dollars) is an Eastwood classic... Even though it's not a sports movie or Eastwood related, if you love this I bet you'd like Pan's Labyrinth.

Pale Rider, Unforgiven,Dirty Harry, Heart Break Ridge, Hang Em HI, the man with no name trilogy. He's been in a ton of movies. Hell he made a movie were he was a bare knuckled fighter with a orangutan that was my favorite growing up. It was amazing to see him in his roles as a younger actor but his movies just got better as he went on.
