My ruger american shoots .75" at 100 yards with the 168 grain ttsx bullet in 308. And took a high shoulder shot on a deer last year that was dead before it hit the ground with minimal meat damage. Really impressed with it. And to boot it manages around 2450 fps out of a 18" barrel. Straight impressive in my book.

For the accuracy in some of the budget lead bullets I'm going to stick with those, I'm deer hunting so not worried about a half inch difference as long as it expands and I prefer an exit also. Love to watch and learn.

If you are using non lead bullets, try the Hornady black 168 grain or the Norma tipstrike 170 grain. My savage 110 ultralite shoots sub moa with those two loads. Currently have the 170 grain sighted in for the cold bore shot and it hits bulls eye for me.

Those should be called 150 LRX-- their function window is made to the same specs as the long range versions. Great bullet and ammo... I worked on both sides-- bullet press and lab testing. The 308 bullets run great at press and test well and the ammo never gives the lab problems in testing either. Goldilocks round 💯

I picked up some winchester 150gn copper impact in 308 for a new hunting rifle. Mauser m18 with some nice zeiss optics. I wasted the entire box of ammo trying to site that rifle in. Chasing holes all over the paper. Walking away a realy disappointed with about a 3 1/2" groups. I didnt touch anything on the rifle. Just purchased a basic packet of winchester power point 150gn lead cup and core. First three shots at 100y all three holes were toucone another. I realy wanted the copper ammo to shoot well as I can see the advantages not having lead fragments what your going to eat. Though the realy bad group's put me off trying anymore copper bullets as they are to expensive to be disappointed again.

If everything is torqued correctly, send it back to savage. If you chronograph all the factory ammo, speeds will also tell you that the problem is the rifle. I don’t shoot more than 2-3 different brands of factory ammo to test the accuracy of a new rifle. I chronograph them as well.

That’s weird to me. It’s been my experience that Barnes ttsx, have always been the most accurate commercial cartridge in every rifle I’ve shot them through. They’re faaaar from my favorite bullet, but they’ve always made me look like a professional benchrest shooter. Lol. Especially the 140 grain out of a 7 rem mag. I haven’t had the same luck though with any of the LRX rounds, at least in 6 creedmoor and 7 rem mag.

I worked for Lehigh and what I saw that usually caused this is the bore diameter of the rifle is not correct. If you had a gunsmith measure the bore you will probably find it to be .309” or .310” not actually .308”. Copper bullets do not obturate the same as lead core bullets so if a barrel is over sized accuracy will never be achieved. These over sized barrels are also usually not very accurate with anything. This has been a quality control issue in the industry since the very first barrels ever made. Marlin was infamous for 44 mag barrels that measured .430” instead of .429”. Add on top of this most bullets are a little undersized as well and you get some frustrating days at the range.

Just to be fair. If you want to get the best performance out of copper bullets. Like anything else, it's in the prep. If you shoot cup and cor bullets in your rifle or pistol you HAVE to clean all the copper fouling before you shoot an all copper bullet. There two different kinds of copper. Try it first before you Poo Poo it. Clean down to bear steel then shoot a few fouling shots with all copper bullets of your choice, YOU WILL get better groups, copper bullets will shoot better in your gun with the proper prep. Try it you will like it...

My comment has nothing to do with copper. A Remington 700 that normally shoots sub moa with 168/175 ammo will shoot almost 5 inches with Norma 147gr. This Remington will do great groups with almost everything above 155 with a 1/10 twist. POI will differ but sub MOA is easy.
