BEST CHRISTMAS MARKET YET!? (Last Minute Change of Plans)
This morning we were up at 4am to catch a ferry from Estonia to Helsinki. We had no intention of seeing the Christmas markets here but on our tram ride to our hostel we passed by the beautiful Christmas lights and stalls all covered in snow! We just HAD to see it!
This is our last official Christmas market and we're sad to say goodbye but equally can't wait to get some Glogi and Christmas market foods!

Thank you! Such a great market 😍
Thanks for featuring all of these different Christmas market experiences on video. Having the little warming huts and somewhere to sit was brilliant. When I lived in Chicago, IL for several years they had a German Christmas Market every year in Daley Plaza Downtown. It was always great to experience all of the good food and special treats. For several years they had a big tent and inside they had a guy blowing Glass and it was so fascinating watching them work. Experiences you had at these markets you will remember fondly for years to come. Always interesting to see the fascination you both have with each place that you travel to and your experiences there.

Thank you for your comments! Its great to hear christmas markets are alive and well in other places like America! we are heading there soon!
What a magical day, the snow falling, the markets, the atmosphere, just beautiful. I’m glad you actually looked like you were warm this time. I can’t believe you ate rudolf Jordan! Good idea having those heated seating area’s to warm up. Even though this market had the blacksmith and glassblowing I didn’t think it was as christmassy as the others but still worth going to. Miss you both, love you, mum.xx 💕❤️💕❤️🎄❄️

Pity you were not adviced, those traditional Karelian pies are usually eaten hot, I put them to a toaster. The taste is rather bland otherwise. Yeah the traditional cinnamon roll is a big thing in Finland, the Finnish name "korvapuusti" means "slap on the ear" in English, no idea where it comes from 😀

they would be amazing toasting hot - they were served warmish! The potato one was definitely the winner in my (Emilys) books! we loved that they are a big thing there - ended up treating ourselves to one at Cafe Regatta as well ☺️

@@JordanandEmily Not only are Karelian pies usually eaten hot but also with eggbutter (just eggs and butter smashed together), which is perfect when the butter really melts into the pie! It is also common to put ham and cheese and other savoury toppings on the pie. The way they were sold from the stall I think the idea was to take the pastries home and heat them yourself and make your own eggbutter. The stall didn't look like a "cafe stall" like the others you showed..
lol to the indoor tent 😅

Helsinki is one of the few places I have been and it's lovely. Very different of course in a winter wonderland compared to the summer I visited. Also, just happened to eat Kangaroo last night and would love to see a kanga pastry 😁

@@JordanandEmily It was only a 6 or so hr stopover but it was lovely! It's one of those places I want to go back to but always hard to decide whether to visit somewhere new or go back somewhere.
Petition for kangaroo pastries to be added to all European Christmas markets in 2023 😅 Gutted we visited these places in the summer after watching these Christmas market videos! ❤

Yeah, sadly it is getting very expensive to visit Estonia and buy things there, since the Estonia's 25% inflation rate (2nd highest inflation in the whole Europe) has skyrocketed the prices. Nowadays many things in Estonia are the same price or even higher compared to Finland. So don't be too surprised if you find some products to be more expensive in Estonia nowadays...

That is crazy! Didn't even think of the insane inflation contributing to that all. 😞 makes it very difficult!

@@JordanandEmily Yep, on top of this Estonia's average income per capita is around half that of a Finland's income per capita, so all these crises and inflation rates have become pretty massive problem for Estonian people and its economy. It's not only Estonia but other Baltic countries also which suffer big inflation rates. Let's hope that the situation will improve.
Cheers in finnish is Kippis!

There's no such thing as "the best christmas market" but many cities and towns seem to compete for the title. Personally, I did quite enjoy the one in Prague and in a few German towns, too. Actually, anywhere in Germany is nice. But when in Finland, one must go to Rovaniemi. Just because.

Re: blacksmith. Tallinn market used to have one almost every year, and also other things like the mini zoo (sheep, etc). But the one this year seemed to have more hot wine stalls than anything else, which is disappointing. So I'm glad that you have come across a blacksmith and a glass blower in the Helsinki market!
