Brian makes it look easy folks, I have used this gun 3 times on medium sized projects all of them have come out Garbage. Prep work takes a lot of time to do, the painting part doesn't take very long. It's such a downer when your results are subpar, knowing you have to save your work by wet sanding and then polishing and polishing. Knowing what to look for setting up your gun is key and takes plenty of practice.

Once again great video. Courtesy work doesn't happen in the industry here in Australia, as its almost always edge to edge paint. As a customer here it sucks even though the insurance quotes are excessively quoted, the repairers here generally refuse to do any courtesy work. Hey Brian, another good video. I am a DIY painter in the UK. First gun I bought on a recommendation from the guy who sold me my compressor was the Airgunsa AZT3 HTE 1.3 tip, which looks identical to this gun. It is a great gun, fan is a bit small but can be an advantage to the beginner because of ease of control, main feature for DIY use is that it does not need masses of air for top quality results, so ideal for smaller compressors. I still use this as my main basecoat gun.

SO MANY Great tips on here; especially for somebody like me still researching how to before I actually Dive In... haven't even bought a spray gun yet. I especially liked the tips on clear that I might not have considered: stopping your passes in the middle of panels instead of near the edge... I assume that makes it easier to polish out the overlap later. Spraying to the middle of the panel with base coat to blend in to the existing but clearing that panel all the way to the edge... I wouldn't have thought of that either. I am curious about how to know how far up the a-pillar to go with the base and clear, and to know how far back on the roof do mask or drape off. Thanks for the vid and I'm definitely saving this to watch again!

Thanks for the video! It’s great that you show us DIY-ers some options that are out there and how to get it done. I’m gaining confidence that I can do the two jobs I have on my list: The first one being a Kei truck, which I think wouldn’t be too difficult to spray, and the second one, my daily Scion xB which has a scrape on the quarter panel wheel opening. The Scion would be the more difficult of the two because it will require blending the rear door.

I am a novice and just painted my first fender, door and bumper cover. I bought the Iwata w400 Bellaria 1.3 for $200 on Amazon and it isn't a knock off. I've watched many of your videos and I setup the gun wide open. However I was a victim of looking at the Iwata instruction sheet where it said to use 29 psi but I backed off a little at 27. When I tested the pattern, I thought it was good so I sprayed epoxy primer and then basecoat. There are a couple of things that happened that I hope I can save someone else from experiencing. First, at wide open, this gun is a paint hog and I went through a quart of base at 1:1 ratio on these three pieces. Because the air pressure was set too high creating a dry area in the middle of the spray fan and the fluid all the way out, my finish turned out dry and I used way too much paint doing it. I was extremely fortunate that the account representative from the paint supply I used offered to come to my house and help me. Instead of full fluid we turned the fluid needle 2 1/2 turns from closed and the correct pattern was achieved at 21 psi. So after wet sanding my parts with 800 grit and letting them dry, we resprayed them and they came out beautifully. I used at least 1/3 less paint. While I know this contradicts some of what you teach which we all greatly appreciate, I think with the W400 Bellaria gun 1.3 tip, a novice should be wary of running this gun wide open.

As a professional in the trade it's common practice to operate any spray gun wide open. The trick comes with fan adjustment, psi adjustment and feathering the trigger. We never go full trigger despite having it set to wide open

Many things can have effects to result in a dry finish, gun distance from surface, gun travel speed, fluid volume, fan pattern, air pressure, material reduction, try starting with lower recommended pressures and spray a small test panel on some scrap material first, it's also a good idea to use a separate gun for spraying primers a cheap gun works fine for primers, other variables like temperature can effect your finish especially when applying top coats, read as many application guides from the manufacturer of the material as you can and stick with that material so you can develop your technique for that material.

As you say not everyone wants to pay that much when starting out. I was replacing an older DeVilbiss gun. So the Air Gunsa you used does look like a nice starter option... and an ‘all rounder’. ❤️ Your paint application was awesome, blending on the damaged side came out perfectly. Since this is 6 months old, is this still what you'd recommend for a weekend warrior? Im only doing body pannels for now, but plan on doing a whole car this year. I have 2 $15 harbor freight guns now. Figured I'd use one of those for primer and my next gun as a base and clear/sealer. It is something I plan on using for another few years, so if you recommend something better that's in the $300 to $400 range, I'll go with that

A good painter can make any spray gun look great...i sometimes prefer a cheap Matco $150 as opposed to my Satas lol

I was wondering something about decision to fix rock chips. If for example some of the repair was paid by the insurance such as the fender, bumper, blend to hood and blend to left front door, does the shop upsell repair of the rock chips to hood and blending of the right front fender? I ask this because normally, insurance wouldn't cover cost of repairing rock chips and blending of right side fender if those were not part of the loss. Also, another great video! Keep em coming

I realize it's the area that you're in, most people drive these micro cars - but if you get one in, could you show some techniques for working on full size trucks? Of course, most of it's the same, but having to deal with a roof that's 6+ ft in the air, or just dealing with the hood... it's a real trick! Not to mention the sheer volume of materials. I just painted my '08 Sierra, and it was a task!

The issue I see with DYI garage guys is not so much that they want to cheap out on the gun, but that their compressors are rated 30 gallons or less and 5 CFM or less, and most guns, even the one above, (except LVLP ones which are hard to come by) are rated for least 10 CFM. So ... 1) will that around-10 CFM gun that you are reviewing here work somewhat well with a 30 gallon 5 CFM compressor? 2) If so, any special settings or reducer type or PSI recommended to compensate for the only 5 CFM compressor? Thanks! Your videos are GREAT!!!
