    Has anyone used the Graco Contender 65 Convertible Car Seat on a Southwest Plane? My son is 11 months and about 25lbs and we’re looking to purchase a rear facing lightweight seat that we can also use in the car in Miami

    I am between the Graco contender go and the century drive on. We live in FL fly to NY where my family is. Plan is to ship a car seat to NY and leave it there and use the cares TSA seatbelt on the plane when babe is a bit bigger. Which seat do you like better for use 2-4 weeks out of the year and baby is in the 2nd percentile, 18 lbs and barely 30” at 15 months! I’m taking into consideration that we may fly with it in the future and my parents are older so the weight is a consideration. Thank you!!!

    I remember renting a car once when mine was in the shop. It was from a site where people can rent their own cars. The profile of the car I rented stated they had a carseat for an extra $5 per day and stated it was safe for our children. I immediately thought, "You do? How do you know that? You don't know the size of my child." It wasn't a problem for me as I didn't need any. I just hope no one does that or they ask the owner for the requirements.

    We definitely don't recommend renting car seats, so I'm glad you didn't! Most of the time, it will not be the right kind of seat and often they are missing pieces or expired as well.

    Also, as you talked about rental cars with other people in the video, let’s talk about what happens if you did bring your own car seat. What is the safest way to install your own car seat if you did bring it if it just so happens to be very close to your child’s nap time and it’s dark and your child’s car seat is rear facing and you wanna make sure you’re absolutely sure you know what you’re doing but you’re absolutely sure that you know that you’re not. I’m trying to meet with a local CPS T but she is super busy and I think I might need to meet with a local one at my police department.

  • @safeintheseat

    If you have practiced installing your car seat before you go on the trip, you shouldn't have any issues installing it in a rental vehicle. There's no need to meet with a CPST at the trip's destination.

    It is, and there is a sticker on the side. It will have red lettering. It's approved in harness mode, but not in booster mode. It says this, just with more words.

    Hello! Thank you for this video - do you know which car seat would work best for cars with lap belt only? Considering these work on the plane, would they be safe / installable in a car with only a lab belt? We are traveling to Brazil and most cars there have only a lap belt in the back seats

    It has FAA approval. Make sure you are able to carry it over your head for 10-15 minutes, as you'll need to do this to get it down the aisles of most planes. That's why we recommend lightweight seats.

    I am in need of a second car seat for my toddler that is also good for travel. We are bringing it on the plane for my 21 month old but also want something that is easy to install and get a proper buckle for when the grandparents watch her. I bought the Cosco scenera but found it hard to install and buckle her for my parents who are inexperienced and the fit was tight from front to back in the car. Our everyday seat is Evenflo slim revolve and love it. Do you have any suggestions?

And after that cart is like separately "hand baggage"? red bags for holding strollers / car seat (when it goes to the baggage department ) will give us in airport or i should buy it earlier? And also kid can dive in that cart+seat till his place in the plane? Or I shoud disconnect if and they will go ?

  • @safeintheseat

    I believe it does fit on there, but I would not strap a child into it whilst it's on the stroller. I'm not sure that you can get it secure enough for that. The Cosco Scenera Next does fit quite well on the Mountain Buggy Nano and I have seen many people strap their child into the car seat as well when it's attached.

    For a toddler 16 mo plus - over 30 inch height, and over 22 lbs, can they sit in an x-small ridesafer travel vest? The ridersafer website, states the minimum age is 2 year old. Would this still be ok to use - the toddler already walks alone, climbs and can hold him self up.

  • @safeintheseat

    @safeintheseat

    Absolutely not! It's never ok to go against the manufacturer's minimums. It is in fact illegal to do so. Please choose a safer option for your toddler. We don't even recommend putting 2 year olds in the vest, we prefer to see kids that are 4 or older using it.

  • @safeintheseat

    @safeintheseat

    Ай бұрын

    Whichever one you find cheaper when you go to buy it as they both last a similar amount of time for most kids. We haven't had good luck with the backless booster mode of the Comfort Ride fitting kids, so neither seat would be the last one you need. The Maestro is only good in harness mode and has 50 lbs/50" limits, but a tall harness height. While the Comfort Ride works well in both harness and high back booster mode, but has a much shorter harness height. You might want to measure the child's torso height before buying as well. The Comfort Ride has a max torso height of around 16.5" and the Maestro's is about 18." The Comfort Ride's high back booster mode can be used until a torso height of around 18.5."
