Yes! Makes sense. Thank you for that tip!
What a great idea! I made pizza sauce using Mrs Wages mix and I definitely cooked it down too far. It looks like paste. My husband laughed and said Well it won't run off the pizza. Thanks for the great tip. I would use a wooden skewer to measure, I use them for debubbling my jars.
Oh my!! What a great idea. Ive thought about doing this but never did. Thank you very much Leanne!

You are so welcome!
That’s a great tip!! I was making cranberry sauce from the Ball Blue book- no pectin added- this week and had to get a thermometer out to make sure I wasn’t overcooking it. I used the jam stage temp 220, 8 degrees above boiling point. It took way, way longer than the book called for but I ended up with an awesome product. 😊
What an excellent tip!
Wow did that help, thank you so much!! God bless!! New canner here! Love your channel, hardly ever comment, but always like!!
I'M COOKING DOWN TOMATOES 🍅 NOW!! I AM JUST GOING TO USE THEM FOR SOUPS ETC. I HAVE THEM IN A LARGE CROCK POT. THAT IS A GOOD TIP!😊 I MADE CHILI SAUCE EARLIER, IT'S RATHER LIKE KETCHUP.

Thank you for sharing this amazing tip with us. I would have never thought to do this. You are a canning lifesaver.
I do basically the same thing only I measure from the top of the pot down to the top of the water with a ruler and note how many inches down it should be 😊
Excellent Tip LeAnne! 👍

Hi LeAnn ! I always learn so much from you. Quick question, I am unable to find the Sept.15 souptember recipe from Super at 60. Did she post or am I missing something??? Thanks for all you teach us.

Hello Sandy!
What a TERRIFIC hint!!! I don't ever seem to get the correct number of jars filled... Next time, I'm going to try this! (P.S. -- If you don't want to mark up your wooden spoon, just use a chopstick!)

Thank you! i'm going to buy some chop sticks
Re-marker-ble!
I would use a disposable wooden skewer, otherwise you’ll have a wooden spoon with a bunch of marks on it.

@@MennoniteFarmhouse the wooden skewers are also super useful for checking if cakes are done, they’re basically an extra long toothpick :)
I don’t see how this would help any with the water Not being the same consistency as the ketchup. How could this work?? Did you actually do it this way? Did you get true measurements??

Hi This was my tip to Leanne. See it's to measure the volume. Consistancy has no bearing on it. And yes ma'am, I've been using this method for several years. Please note that all the recipes give you an approximation on how many jars you "should" have when done with your canning session. In my experience the most I've had left over was a small glass pinch bowl full, and that was getting all the product out of the pot. Waste not want not, as they say.

Well I tried it last night and worked like a charm! I’m forever thankful for this tip. The ketchup looks like ketchup for the first time ever! Husband will be happy!
Why not just measure out 14 cups?
@MennoniteFarmhouse

Because canning jars are not a true measurement. Just the other day I tried to pour two quarts into a half gallon jar and it didn’t all fit. I should mention this in the video.
Terrific "low tech engineering"
Great tip! Thanks!
