1Drummer unless you've ever been judged by 12, specifically if it's not going in your way. plus whether it was a good or bad shoot you will more than likely go through a civil lawsuit. you may begin to think the carried by six wasn't a bad idea when all is finished.

I agree however I personally carry 40 cause all local leo's carry and so I can always find ammo and when people go stupid and buy up ammo 9mm and 22lr are first to fly off the shelf but I can still buy my 40

No mention of .357 mag? I must be getting old if revolver calibers are being completely forgotten.

Revolvers arent as popular as they used to be, and semi auto pistols are easier for people to learn and shoot fast along with learning faster reloads. I love a good revolver, always wanted a Colt Python, one day I'll get one, but they do require more skill to reload quickly. Honestly if accuracy or marksmanship was the most important skill, a revolver will be more than adequate and the 357 being a great caliber. It also doesnt help everyone thinks they're gonna be in a shoot out or have 10 home invaders so the need for a semi auto is a must. I think its nice to own and use both.

You are correct. .357 Mag is the King of HANDGUN calibers and self-defense. Period. People argue about 9, 40, 45 as to "knockdown" power or effective power. NOBODY ever argues whether the .357 is capable in a self defense role. Revolver or pistol...it's king.

Love .357. I just want more than 5 rounds and not to have to reload using speed loaders. Nutn Fancy said it best, “In a defensive situation with a revolver, are you going to have time to reload a revolver? Probably not.” That and it does kick like a mule in a concealable form factor. The guy with the autoloading pistol caliber will likely beat you to a follow up shot if you missed.

You raise many good points about the 9mm round that are quite valid. With that said though, in my opinion, one must opt for the round that they are comfortable and proficient with.

I'm relatively new to guns. I was given (legally) a Ruger SR40 by a close friend, so that's what I learned with. I became very proficient with it over time, but I realized that it's too big to carry effectively. I keep it for home defense (God forbid that I should ever need it) and as a nice shooter for the range. Once you get used to the .40 S&W caliber, it's not such a problem. The cost is still higher than for 9mm of course, and you can't fit as many rounds into a magazine. My SR40 still manages 15+1 capacity, which is nice, but it's full sized. I want to go to a 9mm for concealed carry and I personally like how my SR40 feels and operates so I was thinking about getting the SR9c for a carry weapon. I like that it still manages to have a 10 round magazine capacity and can even fit a larger magazine which gives it 17 rounds capacity (for home defense, probably wouldn't carry concealed that way). I've looked at tons of reviews, but I guess I am just looking for perspective from someone more experienced on the subject to see if my reasoning is sound. If I'm going to trust my life to a weapon, I want to be sure it's the right one.

I tend to believe MOST criminals we will deal with in the states will run at the sight of an armed bystander. No less continue to fight after being shot with any caliber. So there's that...just my 2 cents but at the end of the day it's all about shot placement

Criminals are not about a fair fight. If there is a chance that they will get shot they will walk away most of the time. This is the reason that 'defensive use of a firearm' and without shots fired at least 90% of the time. The problem with most mass shooters - they are wanting to go out leaving a 'legacy'. They don't expect to survive.

I carry a .45 Springfield that has a 13 round capacity, if that along with the second same size cartridge in my pocket (Giving me 26 total rounds) doesn't get it done I'm in trouble with anything!!!

I agree completely with your choice of the 9mm. I personally carry a G43...I tried to get my significant other to get a 9mm pistol, but the recoil was just too much for her (she weighs 110 lbs soaking wet) so she got a sig p238 and loves it, we can deal with a little more cost for her ability to shoot her firearm effectively.

I have a different opinion. It boils down to concealability & comfort. If I can't hide it, I probably won't carry it. If it hurts to carry it, I probably won't carry it. Not just me, these hold true for almost everyone. Caliber isn't that important. The gun you have when you need it is the best one you can carry.

I'm dead-on with my sd40 as well... My last time at the range they were asking how long I've been shooting

For my birthday, my dad just gave me a glock 27 .40 s&w that he's had for a couple years because I've been so interested in getting into concealed carry. Luckily, with glocks it's very easy to convert the caliber from .40 to 9mm with a simple barrel swap so my plan now is to buy a match grade KKM Precision 40-9 conversion barrel which costs about $160. So since the glock 26 and 27 are dimensionally identical and all glock frames take the same size magazines, I'll just have to buy some 9mm mags (10-15-17-33 round capacities) and I'll essentially have a glock 26 with a better barrel as well as the option to swap back to the factory barrel, which takes about 10 seconds, if I ever feel like shooting some .40 s&w.

yeah I put 150 rounds through a gen 4 26 today at the range and absolutely loved it so I think I'm just going to buy a 26 so I can have both it and the 27

I carry every one of them. Depends on my mood an the temp if it's 103° an 80% humidity an it's just basketball shorts an a tee kinda day since nobody wears belts with that it's the glock 380 if it's colder out an dressed more than it's the kimber 45 or others like or the glock 27. Just depends on the dressing for the temp an humidity in the south. No matter what caliber it is it will very much stop or kill. It's all about the shot. An 380 in the summer here is fine because if it ever needed to be used on whoever in the summer their dressed just as light in the heat. So penetration is not much of a issue. Placement is. I wouldn't volunteer to be shot with a 22. So they all will work. This video is solely around price an amount the gun can carry. Bottom line carry what you like an comfortably with an can place the shots well. If 380 is to small but your choice for the day of pants can't support a heavier gun without a belt throw an extra 380 mag in the pocket with all the other crap ya yeah ring in your pockets anyway

Thanks for that analysis but if I have to use an ineffective cartridge to defend myself I choose the one that makes the biggest holes in and out the other side and that would be the 11.5mm also known as the 45acp.

I agree with you somewhat. I have been carrying for a long time. Then, Bersa came out with their BP380CC, and I got it. It instantly became my carry gun. People talk about "stopping power," and that's great. But one point that no one makes on this issue is: #1, are you trying to "stop" your attacker, or #2, are you trying to KILL your attacker? Few people think of the ramifications they will face after the fact when it comes to drawing and actually using your carry weapon on another human being. The legal ramifications of STOPPING an attacker versus KILLING one are very different, and the caliber you carry has a lot to do with that. In today's society, it is very possible to end up going to prison yourself for using your firearm, or even being sued by your attacker for shooting them. In this line of thinking, wouldn't a .22LR (like the M&P .22 compact), or a .380 (like the Bersa BP380CC or Bersa Thunder) be viable carry options? I'm not saying you are wrong-I just want to inject a different thought process. I'm curious to see what people think.

Cullen, I understand the point you are trying to make but in a life and death situation...if you are properly trained and use the weapon as prescribed by law, you always shoot to kill as the attacker has left you no other alternative. There is a life in grave danger once you have got to the point of drawing your weapon. ( if not why draw the weapon out at all ) If you have an alternative, always take it . If you have to shoot, you shoot two shots center mass and if the threat still exists, one to the head. This is how I was taught. Others I know stay center mass until the threat is not longer a threat. You are required in the majority of states to stop shooting when the threat stops being a threat. Laying down with two holes in him and still holding the weapon is STILL a threat to me unless I can clearly see he is done. This reaction should be automatic requiring ZERO thought on your part. Handling your weapon should be muscle memory and not something you have to think about in a stressful situation. Save your thinking for the other things. What is behind the attacker, where will any stray bullets go? is anyone in the line of fire. Where can i get to cover. You have enough to think about in that split second so the attackers health and well being should not be one of those things. Gun fights follow the rule of 3. These are averages based on data that has been gathered over time. Average gun fight last 3 seconds, 3 shots get fired and it is from 3 yds away. I have a lot of friends on the police dept and the majority of them have told me that in that situation, shoot to kill and if you are lucky, you will be the only one telling the story. If the attacker survives, be ready for a long drawn out expensive court battle. Like i said, hopefully you will never have to pull the weapon out except at the range when you are training. If you do, then do what the tool was designed to do and kill. It may sound cold and cruel, but my weapon is my absolute last resort. If it comes out in life or death, someone is going to lose their life.

Experience wise, when I was in Iraq, The M9, 9mm ball ammo basically just zipped through body's w/o expending all it's energy. As far as cost, my life is worth more than a few cents per round savings. I carry a .45 Para Nitehog. You have me on capacity, but shot placement Vs. Quantity is by far better in my opinion. I use either old style Hydra-shock, Silvertip or other HPSP ammo. I am really not concerned with ammo cost. I train with what I carry and can honestly shoot a .45 easier and better than a 9mm as a 9mm is a very violent round at the muzzle. This is why so many calibers and so many diff firearms exist, personal preference. I honestly do not own a 9mm or a plastic firearm .... I train and shoot full steel and my muscle memory and reflexes are tuned to that.

You'll be surprised at how much the 9mm raps on your wrist about the same as the bigger calibers. Bigger calibers usually mean heavier guns which result in less felt recoil.

I would LOVE to get a .40. I have never owned a gun and am going crazy trying to learn about them. Is there a really small conceal size .40 that still has good capacity?

have you ever been in a legal process? the most stressful thing you can be involved in. expensive. uncertain. I almost would rather run like hell. running not only from the aggressor but from the lawyers, police, judges courts. best is to have a good understanding of legal matters and a good retainer with a good law firm. if you can afford it.

Very true. Plus, in order to become very efficient with your self-defense primary firearm you have to be very comfortable with it. And the only way to become comfortable is to practice as much as you can afford. Practice makes it perfect. Lower cost of ammo will allow one to practice more. Great video. Subscribed.

Thanks, good show. Your right about ego playing a part in caliber selection. After 35 years I changed over to a 9mm. The reason for the change is I'm getting older, with the XD I carry 20rnds.

And for the people wondering about capacity.... You can get em in 7 and 8 round capacity and use speed loaders or moon clips. Traded my G19 in for a 7 shot 357 magnum and very happy w the choice

.380 is by far the easiest gun to carry all day. Goes in the pocket and you forget its there. With ammo like Underwood extreme defender, it penetrates like 9mm hollow points. My favorite gun is my 9mm Shield but even at 20 oz it can be bulky and is definitely not a pocket gun.

Yes Yes Yes! He lost me at crapping on .380. I enjoy pocket carry and comfort is important to me. If it wasn't comfortable then I wouldn't carry NEAR as much! Guaranteed the OP firemarms guy wouldn't want to be on the receiving end of a good 380 defense round.

He didn't dump on the .380 because of concealment by way of pocket carry. He's speaking from practicality. By the way NOBODY WOULD WANT TO BE ON THE RECEIVING END OF ANY BULLET OF ANY GRAIN OR CALIBER! I'm not calling anyone a liar here, but I have never ever seen a .380 have the shooting ability of a 9mm. I've seen .380's penetrate as much as a 115g but those rounds are costly. I've never heard of a .380 HPJ penetrating as much as a Winchester PDX +P 124g defender rounds or Federal HST's 135g. Plus I don't like small snappy guns. When you're in the shit, you're going to understand why .380's are boot guns.

I'll be honest. for the time being my choice is .40. that's mainly cause my duty wep is that cal and that is what I trained with and my off duty wep when I get one will be also a back up wep on duty. so it makes sense to be the same maker and cal so I can use the same mags if need be.

Makes since. On duty I had a choice of 3 side arms. Sig 9, 40, and 45. For reasons less about ego and more about my large hand size and accompanying issues I had with tactical Mag exchange I went with the larger framed weapon(45).The longer butt made Mag seating problems go away. When I retired I purchased a SAS 45 SIG which is a cut down version of the weapon I received all my training on. Maybe I ought to look into a nine now. Thanks.

Great video but in regards to capacity, can't you compensate for that with shot placement? Willing to bet that if you had to pull your weapon, for defense, you won't use all 20 bullets especially if they're placed right. I'm also pretty sure that the 9 shots that the legendary 2 Pac took, weren't from a 40cal.. Lol.. Still a very informative video!!

Also, better to have it and not need oppose to needing and not having. Yes the goal is to stop the threat, proper shot placement etc. However, thing's just don't always happen that way. If you don't agree with him say that, but don't try to flat out mock the man. You make the community look bad with immature lol's behind it. You're basically trying to make him look or sound stupid in a passive-aggressive way. You just come across as flat out childish and a bit of a douchebag. There's enough of those in the community, but don't be that guy, seriously. Watch the man's videos, he knows his stuff. If you can drop the target in 1 or 2 shots, fine, that's great. Yet, people never think stuff happens, until, well, stuff happens.

I was very disappointed in the fact that you left out 38 special and 357 magnum. They are also two of the most popular cartridges on the market. The 357 has been shown to be far superior to the 9 mm.

Agreed but they only work in revolvers. A platform which takes longer to reload (should things ever get that hot that you need more than 6) even with a half moon.

I like how this guy says "facts" and asks us to keep them in mind but he doesn't really state any sources. He just talks about cost, which isn't what self-defense is about. We want to stop people from hurting us, not show them how frugal we are.

Im a farmer and once in a while I capture wild pigs in an enclosure when we walk up up to them we have to hurry and shoot them because they are freaking out and might break free. The difference in the shock on the pig being shot is unmistakable between 9mm and 45 acp. The pigs have to be shot several times (they are big) before they die with either rounds but the 45 is WAY more damaging and often knocks them on their ass with one shot. Real life killing something with bullets. Next time I should film it even though its usually pretty hectic. Its so obvious. BTW my ccw is a 9.

I've heard that when it's FMJ versus JHP's, there is a difference based solely on dimensions of the round, which puts .45 at an advantage. The expansion I think is what throws people off as the good quality 9mm expand to nearly the same diameter as .45. But when you remove the expansion, the .45 apparently fares better.

I disagree with you. No disrespect, but you're doing what everyone else does and are simply expressing your opinions and preferences. I shoot the .40, the .357, and the 9mm. Round for round, I would rather hit an attacker with the .357 and the .40 before having to use the 9-mike. That's MY opinion, of course, but it's based on the same data-perspective as you probably use to revere the 9mm. I like the 9mm, just as I like the .380, but for self-defense, if all else is equal, the .40 and .357 are my rounds of choice.

+Big6Duke :Nope, those same improvements apply to the .40 and the .357, which, because of their weights and loads, will still offer a better striking dynamic. I won't argue that six .356 revolver rounds might not be as advantageous as ten 9mm rounds, but I cannot see the merit of a slight price difference as reason for a caliber preference. This is a no-win argument, and we each have our preferences.

+Bob G You would think that for .40 and .357 however those rounds have fallen out of favor and those improvements simple aren't there for those rounds. Take a look at some of the FBI testing the last go around now with that being said I agree it is personal preference.

You actually did exactly what this guy did, you just respectfully rebuked him, and stated an opinion/preference. He gave solid factually found reasons why the 9mm will do just fine. Penetration and shot placement matters in the end. You don't need Zeus's thunderbolt in order to do it which would definitely be a 357. You only need 12"-18" worth of cartridge penetration to stop your enemy. Plus, recoil and cost is much higher with those guns and the aftermarket simply isn't there as it is for 9mm. There's a reason why you never see people come out of whole foods with 50 various bags, but you do at Walmart. You didnt mention velocity but that plays a factor, if you live in an apartment or in a crowded area.

There’s a reason Secret Service uses 357. I understand your arguments regarding cost , capacity etc. It definitely comes down to what YOU , the shooter handle best. I have several handguns but I prefer using a 12 gauge. However when it comes to practicality, and concealment, and most important RELIABILITY, I love my 38 special snub nose. I have a fear that one of my semis will not function properly when I need it to, and the 50 year old Smith and Wesson 38 has NEVER failed me. Whatever works for you.

Semi's are SUPER reliable, but you see a lot of videos of them jamming when they are used in real life. People may not train with them a lot and limp-wrist.

In real life shooting Incidents, you may be able to use only one hand or not be able to get the perfect grip due to injury or various reasons in a dynamic, fast moving situation. A truly reliable auto loader should be reliable when "limp" wristed. Even the highly trained can be victims of imperfect grips in the worst case scenarios. Train weak hand with the pistol & load that you carry. You'll discover if your combination is to be trusted.

if i want a round that can stop a human i look to the hunting world, nobody hunts with a 9mm, so for self defense, like hunting, the .357 is the minimum ( .357 sig is pretty good if you like auto's) in my mind take down power and shot placement trump capacity, like i said check out some deer hunting vid's and see what they use, most deer are roughly human sized.

thanks for ur input Neil. I asked because I'm trying to settle on a G26 or G27. I live in a state with 10 round mag cap restriction. nothing says I can't carry extra mags. just need to speed up my ability to change them out! thanks again.

I appreciate the pragmatic approach. I for the record carry a Micro 9 because... I can carry it whether I'm in a suit or shorts in hot weather. Now, as to what is the best caliber, I do have a real world question. Capacity seems to play a large part in your decision. Here in the peoples republic of NY where our governor came out from behind his armed guards to decree that "You only need 7 rounds to hunt", other than cost of rounds, how does that affect your decision? I have a compact 45 (seeing a trend here?) that I can carry 7 rounds in the magazine and one in the chamber. Since I can't (legally) carry a 15-20 rd pistol, would you personally stick with a 9mm or get the largest rounds you could to make up for limited capacity if you lived here?

Give me my 40 S&W or my 45 ACP any day over a 9mm. You need more capacity to try to stop someone with a 9mm. The main reason and fact for going back to the 9mm is so people with small/weak hands can handle the pistols better...The best caliber for Self Defense is the one you have at the time.

Stopping someone isn't a matter of caliber. It's a matter of where you shoot them. Brain or spine.

I can train more for cheaper with 9mm than other popular calibers out there, that's why I carry 9mm.

9mm costs were low, 4 years ago. As the most popular round, it’s impossible to find it, now, and it costs a fortune.

I still find it funny how todays 9mm crowd says, its all about shot placement, there is no such thing as stopping power, all pistol calibers are under powered so it doesn't matter which one you choose. While in the same breath say, 380 doesn't have enough stopping power, its completely inadequate as a defensive cartridge.... Can you guys even hear yourself talk, or does the bullshit just flow naturally???

Ever hear of the Miami dade shooting .. a perp took multiple 9mms to the chest and was still engaged .. stopping power is real it doesn’t usually matter although in the case you get attacked by a bear or mtn lion or one tough son of a bitch.. a 45 or magnum or shotgun or rifle .. all fit the bill a little better than a 380 ... or what if a Rottweiler attacks you I’ve seen 9mm richochet off their skulls but a slow and heavy 45 dripped it ... nonetheless I carry the 9 .. it usually doesn’t matter

After watching the movie Dirty Harry I fail to understand why any LEO carries anything other than the 44 Magnum.

9mm EDC hands down. I'm an old .45 ACP guy and trust me, it was hard for me to park my .45 in the safe and carry 9mm. It's really a no-brainer if you do the math. I run Remington Golden Sabre +P in my G26 & G17. Let me say this stuff is super accurate and reliable, with a little more punch than standard loads. For me, a .45 guy, I had to have that +P factor in my 9mm's. Now I trust my life to them every single day.

The only stats I go by are Police drop stats - which firearm drops a target with one round most often? The answer is .40 S&W Yeah, you get one extra round (really, just one?) with 9mm, but they don't hit as hard and that's just a fact haha 10mm trumps them all, might as well be ready for a grizzly bear sized dude, and you get nearly just as many rounds. I'd rather have 14-15 .41-.44 mag equivalent and be able to drop 14-15 targets, than have 18+ 9mm rounds that require 3-5 rounds per target (if not more, horror stories of entire magazines not stopping targets exist)

I understand more capacity is better but what about the states that limit all magazines to a 10 round capacity does that change your thoughts on which caliber you would choose

good comments. I did a lot of research before purchasing my first hand gun. The general consensus was like a 3-little-bears comparison with the 9mm being too small and the .45 too big, so the .40 is just right. so I bought the .40. Since then I've had the opportunity to shoot different 9mms and .45s and I think you assessment is spot on.

If price is the key point to select a caliber for self defense and to get the maximum affordable practice why then not go with a .22 handgun? For me price is a factor but not the most important factor. I think the premise of the video is failed from the start because there is no best caliber for self defense. It is like asking what’s the best color. The answer depends on each particular situation and the person that will carry. My rule of thumb is: carry the largest caliber you can comfortably, and reliably shoot. If that’s 9 mm, then good for you. If that’s .40 then great. If you are a big ass guy and can comfortably and reliably shoot 10 mm then bravo! Carry 10 mm.

Now 9mm is the"fad." In a while it will be some other caliber. Guys with their pistol and caliber preferences are a lot like women in regard to their purses and shoes.

The M1911/.45 ACP marked its 100th anniversary six years ago, but the 9 mm Parabellum is even older, I believe. It made its reputation as a submachinegun round. NATO adopted it because it was the biggest and most popular round in Europe.

I remember when the big thing was 45, every so called expert would tell people they were stupid if they carried anything less than a 45. Then everybody thought the 40 was going to be the do all save all round. The only reason people like 9mm now is that it is cheap and the guns have gotten smaller and lighter.

Great video brotha, but what would you choose if you lived in a 10 round capacity state like me? Would it still be 9mm? I would appreciate your input

My friend, I am confused about your video. You title it 'Best Caliber for Self Defense' but then you don't differentiate between home defense or personal carry. Also, you interject price which should be totally irrelevant based on your title. Regardless, I also completely disagree with your conclusion. Based on your 'Best Caliber for Self Defense' title I choose a 12 gauge shotgun - over and done. As far as a pistol caliber is concerned, data shows that the best compromise between power and capacity is the 40. Also, given the number of shots fired in typical engagements vs power, the .357 should also be considered ( they make 8 shot 357s). If you titled you video 'What is the Best Economical Caliber for Self Defense', then I would agree: 9mm. No one would argue. Question: You hear a bump in the night, the dog barks, glass breaks, you jump out of bed and grab a gun: 12 gauge, 40, 9, 357?? If I have to choose, the 9mm would be my last choice to protect my family. By the way, I own all of these guns....in duplicate. It is currently fashionable to choose the 9mm. It is true; modern ballistics on the 9mm are better than before. But, price and fashion should not be factored into your argument. Regardless, whatever gun a person chooses to trust his life with; practice, practice, and more practice will trump caliber, stance, and caliber.

It’s obvious he’s talking about carry. He even said that handguns are not as lethal as some people think. Numbers on paper don’t mean squat. Shot placement and speed are king. If I’m not comfortable handling a .40 and getting it back on target for follow-ups, I won’t be confident with the tool and I won’t train as much. “Beware the man that has practiced one kick a thousand times.” I’d rather have 3000 rounds of training with a .380 than 300 rounds with a .40. Also, you should spend way more in ammo practicing to defend yourself than you will on the firearm. Finding inexpensive practice ammo that shoots similar to your carry ammo is a major issue for most people.

Totally agree with you.

I liked your video, but if your main point is more rounds, it is a weak argument. Facts as you say is that over 90% of civil armed conflicts only 2-3 rounds are fired. You points on cost are factual so people wanting a different calibre other than 9mm assumes the cost. As far as performance, this is a mute point. All the calibers mention can have have gotten the job done reliably. Thanks for your take on the issue, but videos like these don't really serve a purpose.

@Geauga Responses like this show bias, not fact. Which is exactly what you stated you were not going to do, killing your credibility. Michael has a valid argument. And you should respond in kind, or not at all. For the average gun owner, a 9mm will do great for them. Most likely it will be mainly for recoil purposes, handling, and (lets face it) external pressure from people... e.g. "do this, not that, because I'm bias and I'm always right." The facts: 9mm is absolutely more controllable without training. 9mm is used as a standard for most. 9mm can kill. The reason for a 45... It has all the facts a 9mm has, brings a stronger overall "punch" and has been proven to take less rounds to "knock down." Should a person run out and get a 45 just because of this? Absolutely not. They should fire what is most comfortable with them personally. Can they control the weapon? Are they accurate? If not, are they willing to put in their time to train themselves and prepare themselves for the worst? Do they want more rounds available? Do they want to carry an extra magazine? These are answers only individuals holding their weapons can answer. With someone who is comfortable shooting a 45, it is absolutely a viable option vs the 9mm... and imho, a better round to carry. The answer to less rounds, is to carry more rounds. It is that simple. Now if I'm in a zombie apocalypse... I want the 100 round 9mm magazine.

Most of this in my opinion, again MY OPINION, comes down to shot placement and recoil control. I like the 40 it's not much more expensive then the 9 and yes you get a round or 2 less to shoot which means make your shots count and go center mass don't try to be cool and go head shots only. I have nothing against the 9 either though as I own several as well. It may take an extra shot or two but, you gain that extra shot or two due to the smaller round, and again shot placement, center mass. So really preference, shot placement and recoil control are the overall factors. Have a good day all and stay safe.

It’s super easy

.357 Magnum. Typically shot out of a real gun, not some gang banger looking Glock 9mm. Everybody and their brother has a "9", and they'll always say it like that, "9". These are the same guys that say "clip" instead of magazine. Just my OPINION.

I agree with you, we "do" what we practice, and the cost of 9mm makes practice much easier. I carry a 9mm for daily activities around people, but have a 10mm, or 45 Colt for hikes around my home (I live in Montana mountains) because of the possibility of encountering something large and toothy/clawy. The 9mm would probably work, with the right ammo, but it doesn't provide the same level of confidence as the others. Of course, in these kind of circumstances, or your basic "end of the world as we know it" scenario, my primary will always be a rifle.

I would like your opinion on 357 magnum as well.

This has been the debate of all debates. I once saw a video on the same topic. The person was a military veteran. He stated “Stand there and let me shoot you with a .22 and see if you like it better than any other caliber”. Great point! As a medic in a county known for its high rankings in violent crimes I can tell you, with 27 years experience, that people have survived large caliber wounds and died from small caliber wounds. All else being equal, what is very difficult to control is where the bullet hits - what organ, etc. in the end, as long as you’re carrying, then that’s all that matters.

My Friend says he prefers a revolver because they are almost zero chance of jamming - how would you compare them say the 357 6" vs a 9mm ?

I cant really input anything because im 17 and only shot a couple handguns all my life, my experience is with rifles and shotguns. personally when im able to carry, ill go with a .45 ACP hollow point round and when I can afford it ill use a 1911. say what you will about it but i love the look and sound of the classic 1911. and their light trigger is so much more familiar to me with my hunting rifles and shotguns than that of a longer pull of a glock or anything of the like.

Well I like both 9mm and .40 caliber. Yes the cost is a lil less with the 9mm and you gain an average of 2 rounds in capacity. Both shoot pretty much the same for me. I have been shooting more 9mm here lately due to price of target ammo...it is a great choice.

i also have a Glock 17 it's my fall - spring carry then that baby Glock aka 26 is my summer carry and my in the car/ truck I match them for a shtf a kel tec sub 2k with 100 rounds clipped up and ready to go in my get home bag and all clips will fit any of the 3 weapons
